Here's a crazy idea: the NPC's in Honeywood are all ridiculously OP because the developers wanted only the strongest and smartest players to be able to defeat them. The reason they did this is because once a hero actually manages to defeat a Honeywood NPC they'll find a clue on its corpse leading them to a massive Westworld-style mystery where the plot twist is that the Honeywood NPC's were the real players all along, and the game has actually been a medieval shopping simulator where all the players make their own shops and sell their wares and give quests to the NPC adventurers.

The Evil blanketing the land is a regular occurrence. The last group that rose to meet the Evil, eventually went on to have more modest lives as fruit merchants and garlic farmers. Yeah. As much as skipping seems rude, can you imagine what a hassle it would be if every time you went shopping, you had to sit through 2-3 minutes of dialogue by the cashier before you could buy what you needed? One of the Skyrim mods I had installed (don't remember which one) did it right. After you open the shop, you can immediately begin interacting with it. But the NPC finishes his speech in the background while you shop.
