I agree, people tilt and kill their session......BUT! This is the first video of yours I have seen. Saying :"Choose serenity" is an EASY thing to SAY but IN THAT MINUTE after the opponent's suckout, it can be INCREDIBLY difficult to make your brain do that. I feel BETTER advice, especially for the novice to intermediate player (who are the ones most affected, ) is to GET UP from the table. Go wash your face....walk around the room. Go out the nearest door and look at the sky. take 10 minutes. As you put in more and more hours, you won't NEED the full 10 minutes. But if tilt is THAT MUCH of a problem for you, then you do. If you can't shake off the hand and tell yourself 'This is exactly the type of player I WANT in the game," then you probably ALSO are not able to 'Choose serenity". Also, Within 4 minutes of your video's start, you profess the chance of flopping a set is " 8.5%, or whatever it is......" Now, since the actual odds of flopping a set (or better) is very close to 11.75%, that means the actual odds are almost 50% higher. It would seem to make sense that 1. As a poker PLAYER you should know this, 2. As a poker INSTRUCTOR and AUTHOR (?) you should DEFINITELY know this. This should be a % you could rattle off if you were stupefyingly drunk. Just SO basic. . This fact alone would turn me off for any coaching or books from you. Just something you should consider. Little things are important.

What holds me back is Ignition (Can you put your Money where your mouth is and if you are as good as you say play on there (LiveStream) on a random account and see how you fare when it comes to bad beats? Because I am telling you.. The MATH actually does NOT add up on AT LEAST "Ignition Poker" over many peoples hand History such as people getting hit over and over again with the infamous Ignition KK vs AA with a third K always on the River or the infamous KK VS AA VS J 10 Suited VS KA Suited etc etc... It is like they try bait Players into calling which you are obviously doing (And trying to isolate with Aces and if not and 3 people are calling strong and have been proven to be good Players sometimes you have to respect it and lay it down (Mathematically speaking if someone has not been bluff shoving OR MANY have not and has been Folding EVERY hand for half the Game then everyone wakes up and its a 4 person party all in... and the person with 10 9 S wins (Which is a decent hand which is why I am folding Aces in multi-way on Ignition a fair amount of the time but also play HEAPS of heads up and I've gotten people down from 1,500 chips before to literally 1 BB left and they made a comeback, I mean come on the Poker Knowledge I am grateful for... I appreciate it... The Sites not being Rigged... Sure you are just not getting "Special" treatment since you are better than the average Player and have a large following hence your Videos could "Bait" people into playing on a Rigged Site like Ignition (And before you say I am a bad player I have cashed in multiple Tournaments outside Ignition and am a winning Cash Game Player also outside of Ignition when I can actually feel the Table and SEE the Cards being shuffled... I mean really I just want your thoughts...? Could this be possible and if so... Why play Online when the House is greedy as hell, not regulated or regulated under protection from shady places in the World that cannot regulate/audit them properly or get Bribed off... Legitimately just want your thoughts... Because you talk Mathematics.. Well Mathematically my Hand History should be WELL into the Winning Range and on REDDIT people have shared 1000s and Millions of Hand History's that do not add up Mathematically so if its all about Math how are these Sites not rigged with the Hand History? (Not throwing down the gauntlet for a KZbin fight just want genuine answers although to be honest using Poker Apps my Range Training could be better... But most of the time they expect you to just pick up AA or KK every hand one APP even told me to not 4 bet shove Kings like wtf?

This is an important problem that I find I have struggled with but getting a grip on your emotions may be the toughest thing for most players. @timb4321

I think it's important to break down the factors that cause you to tilt. It's often not one thing. For example, I find that if I play late after a long week at work, I can be frustrated and tired and tilt. I have to stop earlier or rest before going in. A totally separate tilt I used to have is if I lost a big pot and still had 25-50 BB left, I wouldn't play tight. I wouldn't top off my stack. I would just get it all in and try to double. I knew it was a bad play. I realized that a big factor was not wanting to wait in the line at the cage to cash in 25BB or get more chips. So now I take the chips home.

Great video! It’s funny, my version of “going on tilt” is kinda the opposite of most peoples - I tend to lose my nerve to be aggressive after bad beats, which can kill your session just as much as becoming too aggressive (folding hands off I should be defending, etc.) I fought that urge the other night and turned a session that started with two ridiculous bad beats into a winner.

I do what you do. I end up playing tighter but I've gotten better at playing hands "im supposed to'' especially in the BB. just sucks when you call an all in BB, and you have A7, they have A2 and flop a deuce. but I rarely tilt like aggressive people do. But once I get a chip lead, watch out.

Hi Nathan, great videos! Is there any chance you could do a video on player pool tendencies based on VPIP/PR/AF for example: 9/2/1 : tight player 56/21/30 : maniac To kind of categorize each type as I’m not thoroughly familiar with knowing who is who based on the numbers. Ive heard if the numbers are tight together they are tight and if they are far apart they are loose but what about all of the in between etc.. does that make sense? Yeah bad beats as we all know are part of the game but when you experience them they are frustrating but you have to stick your game plan and not be blown off course. Sometimes I might sit out a few hands and go get a drink or something just to break that cycle. A few deep breaths and back to the table. Not easy I know but just a practical suggestion which takes time to practice like any discipline. Also, when you analyse afterwards and see that your opponent had a 5% shot and hit it you realise that you’ll be quids in with these types of opponents over the longer-term and that is reassuring. It’s a short-term emotional outburst vs longer-term logic and rationality. Don’t let the former sway you and remember the latter because you will get PAID!!

I get a little tilted when I act too quickly. I get tilted, or 'guilted' about my own thoughts. In this spot I won't get tilted when I calmly think through the possibilities. Yes, he might have 44, or 88, but he also might have KQ, KJ, or 9Ts or QJc for a bluff, A8 of clubs maybe...??? Oh well if he has 44 or 88, it sucks to be me. It's like I feel some grief before the cards get flipped up, but I feel better for having analyzed the situation, and taking some time will often lead to a well timed check that save me a lot of money.

I have been guilty of getting upset over "bad beats" but I heard or read that the approach one pro took was to say "nice hand". Especially if it's a player you're going to see again. There's no need to wake them to the fact that they played their hand poorly. Just hope they continue to play bad.
@sergiotl7378

The problem with big reraises preflop only with monster hands is that you play them face up. Many players at those stakes are completely oblivious and ignorant, but not all. If someone has seen you do that before and you showed AA or KK, they probably know this huge 3-bet you're doing now means you have KK+. So even if they don't have implied odds to call, it could be a good call since you almost exactly know which hand you're up against. That's especially true if you are capable of folding postflop on coordinated low card boards when facing aggression. They don't need to hit the flop, just wait for a scary flop/turn where you are folding your aces. And if you're not folding them ever, then they could make this play to hunt a set or a good draw with suited connectors and stack you.

I say in chat here watch this. He has q10 flop comes clean. Then runner runner to hit his straight. I said told ya I'd lose. He said maybe folding preflop. I covered the player 2 times. But lost a massive pot. How can I fold there pre flop to that bet from small blind. I said you will be telling me to fold aa if someone Goes all in preflop

I don't title too bad these days it's just frustrating sometimes. The local game I play is populated by rich drunks who think nothing about dropping $1500 a night and play like typical drunk fish but with much higher bet sizing in proportion to the $200 buy in. I do well overall at this game but there is no getting Anyone out of a hand preflop even for $50 which is 1/4 the buy in, so I am considering changing my approach and limiting variance by buying in for $100 and just going all in with premium hands. What do you think? Trust me they don't think on the level of hand ranges or any of that stuff.

Basically even if one reached the best self-control you can't take out of the parameters you present a person's luck. Luck counts and it can happen one can have 26x more bad lucks than others and one like that never will be a poker pro since the universe decided he won't be a poker pro. So destiny and luck count and you eliminate them just selling "Snake oil" not self-control. I'm even not mentioning that most people won't choose to be a poker pro since playing poker for money presents morally rotten destructive value.

I lost 3/4 of my stack because I didn’t c-bet the flop once. My AK ended up getting taken out by pocket 8’s on the turn. He raised turn, I call. He raises river. I call. Board was AJA83 I was tilted and lost the rest of my stack within 10-15 minutes. I lost my patience when I became tilted.

8.5% to flop a set? Pretty simple math, right? 2 outs for a set, 3 cards on flop, each out worth 2.2% , 3(2x2.2) = 13.2% chance. Am I missing something here? I agree that the immediate odds are bad, but people set mine for implied odds. Typically, as long as the effective stack is at least 10X the raise it is an OK call.

So I've got a BIG PROBLEM with this. Overall, it's great Vid's on this channel, with a lot of"wisdom to be had. But I have a specific conflict with most all of you "Pro's", (Including 'the Great' Phil Helmuth, whom I've seen do the following kind of rote-amateur thinking time and again) and it is illuminated perfectly in this Video. That is you guys NEVER consider that your preflop pocket cards represent (in fraction form) a meager '2/7th's' of the information that will determine who ultimately has the top hand. Yeah - that's right the FIVE additional cards to come (if played to the end) represent the mathematical 'LION'S SHARE' of the information/combinations/permutations/deviations that will flow out of a properly shuffled and dealt deck-o-cards. So then, to further my point, at about 1:55 you say (paraphrasing here), 'If you've watched/read me then YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY THIS HAND'. What? Really? Sure you should have a PRE-FLOP strategy for some given hands - but you mean your going to play Pocket-Aces through to the end the SAME WAY EVERY TIME?!? That's ridiculous! Why do I say that? Because again, you've seen a mere 2 out of 7 cards (Your 2 Pockets, PLUS the 5 Card Board) that will make up the end result. Let's break that down a little further, and simply divide the Number of Cards that you know Pre-Flop, or 2 - AND - the number of total cards you have to make your hand at fully dealt, or 7 (Your Pocket's plus the full board)- then divide that by the COMMON DENOMINATOR of the number 2. Well... obviously 2 divided into 2 = 1 -- and 2 divided into 7 = 3.5. So the mathematical ratio of 1 to 3.5 represents "What You Know" preflop - and you're going to formulate your entire strategy based on currently being blind to 3.5 pieces of information for every 1 piece that you have? Again... Really?? Your going to play that hand pretty much the same way every time without regard to the almost infinite number of possibilities in the realm of mathematical 'twists and turns' (Or again, I love what my Mentor used to call it - "tidal waves of un-dealt possibilities regarding combinations/permutations/deviations"...!!) So anyway, what I'm getting at is that at about 2:05 in this Vid, you say (paraphrasing here) ...'Lo and Behold', they hit their "LUCKY" four's' ... Well omg, Omg OMG! I'm ALL LIKE - Totally blown away at their "LUCK", and what a 'Bad Beat' and blah blah blah. -- Lol... Okay just saying/kidding. Anyway, THERE WAS NO 'LUCK' here, and a very refined player always has in mind that just a Set-of-TWO'S (or in this case, a Set-of-FOUR's) beat's a Pair-of-Aces every time! etc (and infinite etc's.) I don't want to dwell on him, but the same aforementioned that I learned tons from would say this, QUOTE: "'LUCK', is a four-letter word that ends in U-C-K, but it's MUCH DIRTIER than another popular word of that same make-up - only starting with an 'F' " UNQUOTE. So this Vid's underlying point's of NOT GOING ON TILT/Letting emotions take over etc. is a fantastic one! However, my further point would be that there was no 'Luck' or 'Bad Beat' whatsoever involved in this example hand. Pocket-Aces are a good start - but also absolutely nothing but the underside of a ONE to THREE-POINT-FIVE information-ratio of what's yet to be dealt. Peace Out.

He said less than 100 big blinds deep. If you are deep stacked or multi-way and you don't think it's going to be 4-bet it might be okay. You just need better than 10x implied odds if you hit your set on the flop because the odds of hitting a set are around 10 to 1.

Winner's tilt is also a problem when the victorious player falls in love with his newfound wealth and cannot bear the thought of losing it back. Wanting to “lock in” his win without actually having to quit the game, he attempts to protect his stack by playing weak-tight poker .

which fucking long term you cool all the time. I've been playing poker for ten years and haven't even gotten to zero. There is no long term and no short term. If you are not a millionaire and have no money to play then there is no point in playing because you do not earn anything in poker. The story that someone has been lucky and won is just a dream. No one ever talks about being able to grow $ 20 of your bankroll anywhere in the country, hardly. Because when you start playing, at first the AI gives you better cards so that you feel like you are a good player and then you don't have any good cards in a while and you have to get polluted, and if there are good cards, the other one always wins with his entourage. And it lasts as long as your bankroll runs out. You put the money back in again and at first it's such a beautiful game and then the same thing happens as before, it's by the AI and whatever has already been agreed, I've seen it for 10 years and haven't even reached 0. And I can say that there is no Fish (think of others who want to, I just don't have any big bankroll to take anywhere). It's pointless to talk about raising money and raising bankrolls, you won't grow anything unless you have a million in it. You won't get anywhere for small amounts. And if, for example, you've already lost half of your bankroll, what can you do, hardly anyone wants to keep playing, because you think it's going to take a while to get your bankroll back, I believe that year and only if you live days in poker and also you win all the time because if you lose further your bankroll is 0.

If you're gonna make videos like this at least get the math at least close to being right and also I think you're wrong about raising and folding pocket 4's... You call depending on stack sizes so you can stack someone with a big pocket pair...Not raise so you can get re-raised off your hand and set mining opportunity...So you have like an 11.8% chance or close enough to a 12% chance to flop a set holding any pair...Not 8.2%... Just saying I would think you would know both of these things since you're a pro>?! Why not tell people to get up and take a walk or to take a break... Not just don't tilt or brag how you don't tilt... Lol 😂

You are delusional if you don't think you need some luck to be successful in poker. It's gambling. Sure you can make some profit from it if you do good game selecting to play with ppl you have a slight edge over and in the long run make some money but it can take 100's of thousands of hands sometimes. And if you're playing small-mid stakes it's definitely not enough to live off of. 90% of poker players are losing players and while some are just bad recs a lot of that 90% are good players that don't tilt and do study.

Realise Poker is a game 80% luck and barely little skill. I too was losing money left and right, even going all in with great hands and my opponents getting lucky last card or 2 cards turning the hand upside down, and making a very carefully planned session go into the negatives every single time. It's LUCK, no matter what these gurus try to sell you.
