Everyone loves to mention that run they went on after acquiring Nurkic, but people forget that they beat a buncha bottom-of-the-barrel teams to squeeze into the playoffs. Only had 6 quality wins against good teams to end the season

You really put a contradiction on yourself by saying Denver won't make the playoffs because, they had a losing record even with the 3rd ranked offense, but Portland didn't add anyone and they had to barely scrape past Denver to make the playoffs last year. I think it's also important to note that nurkic arrived in portland waaaay out of shape from a lack of playing time. He dropped 30 pounds this off season. He's going to be way better. Dame also said he wouldn't use half their playbook because nurkic didn't know it yet.

From a Blazer fans standpoint, here's my take: In the depth chart, you forgot Swanigan. He's gonna get legit minutes this year. Turner will be better. Killed it in pre-season and in the first game. Turner will be a top 10 6th man this year. Portland's improvement will come defensively. Dame has looked better than ever on defense in pre-season and the 1st game. Showing an effort and energy he never has. All pre-season, the whole team has shown a new energy, focus, physicality, and scheme defensively, and it's worked wonders. They held the Suns to 76 points, and yes, it's the Suns, however they got lit up by bad teams all year last year. They never beat a team by more than 20 and couldn't build a lead last year because they'd slack off on defense. Nurkic makes them better all around, and they're all young, so they're still improving. They could be a borderline top 5 offense and borderline top 10 defense. Moe Harkless is going to turn into a top level defender this year, and he's a 10ppg+ scorer on 50% FGs and 35%+ 3pt. Great offensive rebounder for a SF, and a great cutter off the ball which is great next to Dame, CJ, and Nurk. He's EXTREMELY underrated.

Turner started looking allright at thenend of the year, and has looked much better in the preseason. Swannigan, the secind rookie out of Purdue has looked really solid and is likely going to get minutes while Vonleh is out due to injury. He was the Big 10 player of thebyear, lead the NCAA in double doubles and is a beast in the boards who can hit 3s. He's likely going to be the power forward of the future, with Colins being the first big off the bench.

Also Nurk has lost a lot of weight and been showing range. Even hit a couple three pointers in the preseason. Hopefully loss of weight will make him less injury prone and it won’t hinder his post abilities
