Yeah, and the fact that we need MAX guard up in order to survive some of these supernova (I'm looking at you chaotic gore magala) is very annoying. It's not like we have horrible mobility when our weapon is out, right?? I still love lance though, most of the time, as long as I don't see my hp go down below 50% from one hit. Edit: OMG I just realized Lance has a quick evade move now......

Gunlance can only really be killed through max guard/guard up by certain moves, and most of them involve Supernovas. Though, most are still blockable and able to be healed after. From my testing, most killing moves when blocking are held by Gaismagorm. But at least you can Blast Dash away to heal stuff.

So i just learned yesterday that guard can go beyond lv.5 with embolden activated. So it would be cool if guard up went beyond lv.3 if you was able to stack power guard on top of it. Id imagine youd still recieve a shit ton of chip damage if novas became blockable at that point, but perhaps using the escape silkbind would be the better option anyway since its brief and doesnt really take you put the action all that much. I havent played many other weapons and my secondaries kinda fell off during sunbreak, but i imagine the lance is such a safe and aggresive weapon compared to most others given how proactively you attack compared to how reactively you counter/parry. And being able to block and attack pretty much all at once. Novas are few in between so for the majority you can still block most attacks and keep goin I do wonder why the devs let other weapons parry unlockables? Like, they dont want you to be able to cheese harder monsters with an impenetrable wall? Keep ypu from sleeping on what supposed to be an epic battle? Maybe they forgot?(although given updates, thats unlikely), i dunno... i guess all things considered its not too big a deal. Lance is a fun weapon to me and you(assuming you reading this is a lancer ☝).

Honestly in Rise Lance is more trickster than royalguard. Arguably it's been that way since 4U: E+3, Brave style, flippyfloppy charges and now the insta sheathe silkbind, plunging attack and backdash into leaping thrust spam.

As simple as the Lance is, I still love it, being a unkillable moving wall with a sharp bit that stabs and pokes. Plus with the provoker skill (I forgor it's name) so the monster focuses on you a lot more.

Plus Lance has the best poison so I can do DMG while being the shield for the monster to attack, letting my team go berserk on them. I'm the sponge, the monster the water, while the team nukes them down.

As one of the 5 Lance main in the entire MHRS community (on all devices... yes lancers are a small population. :/), i can confirm that lances are awesom to play! A specialy the chargable side sweep attack and the damage buff for the 'leaping thrust' elevated the 5gen Lance gameplay even mor for me. >:D

Omni-weapon main and a speedrunner, I gauge how good the weapons all stack up from each generation of games, spinoffs and non-western games included. Rise Lance is sh*t, absolute garbage to past iterations of lance, Sunbreak Lance is much better, but it very much becomes more hack n slash like other weapons, when normally speed isn't really Lance's game. Also quick tip, Skyward Thrust is VERY situational, it's a completely useless move if you use it on a monster to only land 1-2 hits of it. Using it on a monster that's rearing up or in a tall stance (It shreds Chameleos on the head and neck and the Serpents just go down in seconds of spamming it) is usually the way to go. Otherwise, use Spiral Thrust with max Guard power and mix it with the rainbow buff of Enraged Guard. Frontier Lance is still what I'd say to be the best lance, especially with Reflect Guarding being an amazing concept that could've been reworked to give Lance some serious defensive life as a weapon in newer games.

Royal Guard Mod makes playing lance even better. It heavily rewards perfect parry timing, though I'm not a fan of the auto-counter feature

I'm kinda surprised Lance is the least used. I think Lance is the easiest weapon to learn the game with. Rise was the first MH I got really deep into and I started with Lance. The ability to block most attacks and the fact that its combos were pretty simple and easy to remember meant I could really learn how the game mechanics worked in order to try out other weapons with more confidence. Now I just bow, but I still love Lance. I picked up Generations Ultimate on Switch and started with Lance.

When I 1st got rise on switch, I made myself learn charge blade and then did so again on pc when sunbreak came out. Now that I bought it for ps5, I made myself learn lance and it's simple fun lol.

Problem is most player look on "tier lists" and pick a weapon that's high on it. They don't seem to understand that tier lists are for speed runs/fastest way to kill if your actually a pro with the weapon. They don't factor in fun or ease of use ect, and ofter an "S" tier weapon only beats a "B-C" tier by a second or 2.

As a total MH nublet who first tried the game when Rise went on Game Pass, so far I've only used Lance and Gunlance. Someday, I'm going to have to learn to use weapons that can't block, and that's going to be horrifying. Also, in all the guides I've looked at for Lance, I've never once seen that straight downward dive from the Wirebug. Edit: Also, wait, there's a way to jump during the lance run? I started with Lance because it's supposed to be one of the simplest weapons, and two weeks later I still haven't even seen all the attacks it can make...

I recommend sword and shield then. Your main focus is rolling but you _can_ still block in sticky situations. Also it is really simple and is good against basically all monsters.

I'd say it kinda does because of how strong leaping thrust is. I play a lot of lance and find myself having trouble when trying other weapons. Its reliability is one of the appealing aspects of the lance so I won't complain.

Since the 10.0.0/Sunbreak change that reduced stamina consumption and damage while shielding, in some ways, yes. Lance is the weapon that has the most flow into and out of shielding, but really any of the shield capable weapons were buffed with safety beyond what they needed.

Really you should play (guard) lance in 4U. Monster Hunter nirvana. But Lance, DB and maybe IG are the only weapons I can sort of enjoy in Rise. In 3U I happily used about half the weapons, in 4U and GU I used everything except SA and Prowler, but World crippled my enjoyment of the game at the bottleneck of weapon enjoyment (I could only tolerate IG in World, everything else was pretty miserable to use) and Rise is hardly better.
