WAIT WAIT WAIT, LET ME EXPLAIN. Oh, you already commented that short beds are for (insert derogatory name). Fine. Today I will discuss the differences between access and double cab trucks along with the 5 and 6 ft beds of the new tacoma.

I just bought a 2023 offroad Double cab with 6' bed and I love it

I love the access cab. In the second row you can create huge muli level toolbox in midsize pickup world. And the access for this toolbox can be very fast. The payload and towing capacity is slightly higher and heavy loads on the bed can be moved closer to the front axle. By giving up a bit of comfort in a double cab, you can have a lot more options in the access cab, if it is not used to carry a larger family and friends.

I agree, it fits an ATV with ramps comfortably. That extra foot of bed also goes a long way when moving anything 7ft+

I have a 2021 access cab with long bed V6. The 6ft bed has come in very handy. I've hauled everything from mulch to furniture to my rider lawn mower with the tailgate closed with ease. I just prefer the look of the access cab, kinda of a throwback to classic trucks. Our kids are grown and moved out so the small back seats are perfect for our doggies lol. Like you mentioned it has a surprising space for storage.

I bought the 2022 Tacoma Access Cab with the Utility Delete option which removed the rear jump seats, but also the rear speakers. I'm perfectly happy with this configuration, and like others have said, it looks more like a traditional pickup truck.

I’m completely satisfied with my 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the premium and technology pkgs. It’s basically a Limited Edition with the TRD Off Road pkg. I use the front camera often both on and off road. I love my Taco !

Thanks for your content. I mentioned in another video that I have to forsake my 2004 Tundra Double Cab Limited, TRD Offroad with all weather package which has almost 300,000 miles on it, because of frame rot. I've decided to go with the Tacoma SR, 4 cylinder, 4×4, 6' bed, because at 73 I'm over the bells & "whistles" I just want basic economical truck transportation. Your videos have brought me up to speed regarding all of the categories that you cover, confirming that I've made the right choice. Even though my truck was assembled about 3 weeks ago, it's still sitting in a parking lot in Mexico & will be for maybe another 3 or 4 weeks ( computer chip availability? ) At any rate, trying to survive this inflationary period on my modest Social Security is making my choice obvious. Thanks for the factual, logical, fluent delivery.

Thanks for the video 🍻. Have had my DCLB OR for almost a month now and absolutely love it. Really wanted a locker, needed the double cab as I have 2 teenagers, needed a 6’ bed for my projects around the house. Wife has little practice with stick so the auto is a given. The only other items are heated seats and blind spot monitoring, check and check. Not cheap but I got exactly what I wanted, even if my intent was to get an access cab.

If your truck cab is longer than the bed, it's a minivan with an uncovered trunk.

Why not just get an suv. The rear seats go down or out and most people don’t haul anything anyway. Why are They do fascinated with getting huge cab 4x4 shirt bed trucks that never leave the pavement or haul anything that a 4 runner can’t? If I wasn’t gonna haul stuff I would have saved ten grand and bought a civic.

I have the trd off road long bed. I like the extra room with the double cab that I can lock things safely and the longer bed is great for dirtbikes and other stuff you need haul. Although it doesnt drive a nimble as the short bed. With that being said, if you want something that maneuvers well get the short bed, but if you need the bigger bed you will need to sacrifice the in how it maneuvers

I think it would be very hard for me to get the 5 foot. There is so much value in having the double cab with the 6 foot. It’s a lot of room inside and out and so much more utility. It’s a truck after all.

Im going back to a Access Cab from a F150. The SR5 Access cab is a great option for guys who just want a truck and actually haul stuff, the shocks on there are super plusher than the TRD's and the box is still bigger than the double cab 1/2 ton trucks. The Ford is a great truck, but rides rougher, steers heavier, hard to fit in garage. Im 6'1 210lbs and fit in the back just fine for short rides like the man said. The Double Cab doesnt have more legroom, just longer seats if u look.

Good points! I do like the long bed best imo. I was just talking with my buddy about this & if I could have got my 🛻💨 in the configuration I did with a long bed I probably would have done that because I use it for towing/work more than I off-road.. the only problem my truck is a manual and you only can get it with a short 🛏️ bed 🤷 still a badass 🛻💨 + I don't have to worry about it hunting for gears cuz I'm responsible for that 😂

I would like a single cab with 6'6" bed so I can move plywood with the gate down. Midsize trucks are nice because they are narrower than a fullsize, but every brand has neutered them for cargo and payload.

Guys, quit fooling yourselves. Everyone knows that size DOES matter. 6 foot is the minimum to be a truck, anything less is for soccer moms.

Guess I am a soccer mom, but for me it is the Ridgeline all the way. It is an old man "truck". It is comfortable, unlike the Taco, it doesn't feel like you are looking out of a gun turrent from a fortified position hunched down with legs splayed out in the wheel wells. I am in my mid 60's so I appreciate a good ride and the bed will carry my Polaris atv without problems (something you can't do with cover over the bed). I had a Nissan Titan with a cover over the bed (looked like the Armada), and I used a long handle push broom to reach "stuff" closer to the cab (rural guy and I have to take off the trash). I am not going to crawl my old ass up in the bed with a cover, it's just not worth it for me (you have to use a trailer every time with a camper cover for the atv). I am not into rock crawling or mudding in the Ridgeline but the Polaris atv handles that stuff for me. I have a trailer for the golf cart, Zero turns, and the Polaris 570. I don't need to tow more than 5k lb. It will hold 4x8 between the wheel wells and get 24 mpg. I know there are a lot of extreme HATERS out there of the Ridgeline and that its not a real truck. But for me, its a perfect fit. I have just aged out from conventional trucks I guess. I guess all the small brained rough riders will have a field day with this post. LOL. But, you know there are vehicles out there for a lot of ages, tastes and functionality and to each their own. Keep those videos coming bud, you are real deal.

Yea I had an '06 taco with the short bed and every time I used it, it was never big enough. Now I don't know if I can take less than the 6.5ft bed of my tundra hah

Totally agree! I actually need a truck for hauling lumber and so forth, and I couldn’t imagine getting a truck with a 5 ft. bed. Once I found out they were discontinuing the access cabs in 2024 I went out and got a 2023 while they were still available.

I had to have the DCLB or 6' bed. In Canada the DCLB TRD 4x4 Sport A/T are very common. I really wanted a DCLB TRD Off-Road. Unfortunately they are not made for the Canadian market. States only. I'd really start looking there.

I ordered a 2022 TRD OffRoad nearly 4 months ago and slightly preferred an access cab to get the 6 foot bed. However, I wanted an OffRoad to get the locker and also wanted leather interior and JBL so I ended up selecting a double cab short bed. So although I would have preferred the the access cab, the lack of features caused the short box double cab to win me over.

I bought a 5 foot bed, but I was really considering a 6 foot because it is easier to fit a dirt bike. Still happy with my 5 foot. Also, you can get a manual trans in a trd off-road and pro as well, not just the sport.

6 foot bed double cabs are readily available in SR5 and above trim levels. Get as much bed as you can .

@@Realistick Same here. I want a manual, DCLB. I saw a video on here somewhere a few days ago that mentioned you could buy the DCSB and replace the bed with a 6 footer but I have not seen any videos showing that.

Biggest complaint of short bed owners? Many wish the bed was bigger ( maybe 5.6 foot? I enjoy my TRD long bed , especially for camping and fishing and go most places off roading in Hawaii lava roads -shoreline fishing.. Toyota pick ups use to make a 7 foot bed too…a long time ago..

Me too, it’s the goat. I haven’t had any problems with break over angle either, in fact it’s more stable on inclined terrain when off roading and drives smoother when on pavement.

I love the way the Tacoma looks quite a lot but I can’t get over how uncomfortable it is (to me). The seating position is awkward and the ride is slightly jarring. I know I’m going to get attacked for this, but I can’t stand that it still uses rear drum brakes! Anyway, I love your channel. Thanks for all the awesome reviews!

I rarely think oh crap I have drum brakes when I push the brake pedal. My brakes work great in my pro. And the fox suspension gives an awesome ride in the taco.

its soooooo stupid Toyota stopped sending access cab models to dealers, you can't find them. And then they discontinued it for 2024 models. that access cab suicide door option with 6ft bed should be a choice for those of us who need the 6ft bed and want the creature comforts of the upgraded models !!! toyota once again missing the mark !! Guess I'll stick with my access cab TRD Sport , i was ready to upgrade but i dont want 4 doors and i dont wnat 5ft bed , its just too small

I have a utility package 2wd access cab long bed. The harsh reality is the 99% of these trucks are basic b double cab short bed 4x4s that never leave the pavement nor put anything over 100 lbs in the bed. People are weird.

I got a TRD Off Road as a rental, let me tell you, I miss my Access Cab already. So much easier to get my stuff into and out of the back part of the cab, and the 2WD is so much nicer to drive. Hoping they get it done quick, I want it back!😆

I just purchased a 2023 TRD Sport 5’ bed, (truck drives great) I traded in a chevy 6’bed truck. This 5’ bed is so so small?? The pay load is only 990?? That has got to be the worst in its class. The truck came with a Toyota bed cover (what a leaky POS that is) I think I made a big mistake?

It’s not 990 pounds, the 5 ft bed is not designed for contractor work, it’s for people who occasionally need a bed and are comfortable with ratchet straps. The dimension is in the name so it shouldn’t be surprising 😂 From my experience washing trucks, most tonneau covers leak a little (even my camper shell lets in a couple drops). Congrats on your truck, I hope you enjoy it and maybe buy a bigger bed if you have bigger needs!

For a 6' person looking at SR model how would you adjust the seating position. I've heard after market raisers if needed to sit higher? Can you find comfort in stock forward/back/recline/lumbar and adjust steering wheel?

Stock is fine with me, I just roll the seat back and have it in it's lowest position for the best seating angle. You could look into raisers if you find support to be an issue but either way you look at it, the steering wheel is going to feel sort of far and you have to get used to it.

I feel like once your mid size doesn’t fit in a normal garage you have to start considering full size trucks. They are even better at both worlds. Once we’ve said goodbye to a reasonable sized vehicle might as well get the biggest and most functional possible. DCLBs are massively long and not viable to me. But obviously everyone is different. Gotta fit in a garage or it’s a DQ from me.

(I can help you when your bed is full) - Extended cab fits me and 5 slave-laborers - carrys 1500lbs - tows 8,000lbs - Old enough you can fix it all. ❤ - Was only $4,ooo 😂❤ * Logical tip, if you cant lay down in the back of your truck it isnt a bed. Most people who have tacomas should buy 4 runners. They never use the bed for anything. I don’t know what people’s fascination with trucks are. I bought a work truck so I can load the back with cabinets, bricks, lumber, couches, tools, etc. You can load your occasional Home Depot purchase into a 4 runner just fine and since people is the only thing they will ever haul the 4 runner is better at that.
