Thanks! I've always owned Fords, mostly old trucks that always broke down. Told myself I wanted something reliable, went new. Glad Ford is still making single cabs with a V8. It's all aluminum too so it'll never rot out. I'm totally biased but they definitely make a good truck I'll give them that.

I found out when I **tried** to take my OEM lug nuts off my 2018 f-150 and the lug wrench didnt fit! So I got some nice Gorilla M14x1.5" chrome lug nuts and they're sweet.

The reason the Lug Nuts expand (swell) is due to corrosion of dissimlar metals, not ice. Saw one in half lengthways and see for yourself. Always put some Never Seize™ on the Taper of the Wheel. The Alloy of the wheel and steel lug nut can corrode and 'lock' the 2 together. Sometimes a 3/4" impact gun is needed to break them loose. My Denali requires 140 ft.lbs of torque on the lug nuts. I used one piece Chromed lug nuts. Your truck looked better with Chrome Bumpers IMHO. You won't like that tint on the rear window at night, especially when backing up. I wish my Caddy XLR did not have it. I hope you 'lifted' that rebar and mesh before/during pouring

Ah...you've stepped into the lug nut battle between FordBossMe and F165. You're correct...had to replace some of these in the past. And several manufacturers use them. Had to replace them on my wife's Chrysler and even our Winnebago RV for the same reason. I think many manufacturers use this style...sadly.

If you have one with the swollen shell, you can cut it off with a 1 1/8 inch (at least on the Escape) hole saw. It cuts through the outer shell and does not damage the inner nut. If you still want to use the inner nut you can, but it will be 1-2mm smaller than original.
@RudyNortz
@RudyNortz Жыл бұрын
My Ford's lug nuts were deformed by impact wrench brutality on the chrome "shell" not by corrosion between the outer and inner parts of the lug nuts. Once you remove some of the older nuts peal off the other covering and you won't see corrosion. It's the deformation of the outer, thinner, decorative piece that is warped by the impact wrench.
@dannyo6699
@dannyo6699 Жыл бұрын
When they have been removed and reinstalled a few times, yes usually using an impact wrench, (good luck finding a shop that will do something like that by hand), the chrome caps will loosen up. Dirt and moisture will get inside as a result. In freezing weather, the moisture will freeze and warp the caps causing them to stretch and go out of specs. Eventually the caps will break off or have to be physically removed to get the lug nuts off. I use the full 1 piece units which eliminate the issue completely. However, lug nuts are a replacement item on vehicles and should be replaced every so often as it is.

Good day Don, the slower concrete cures the stronger it becomes. I have been told if you spray water on it over 7 days you double the strength of the concrete. % inches of concrete with screen and rebar is a nobrainer when compared to 3 inches of asphalt compressed to 2.5 inches and prices are not that far apart.

In regards to Ford making the argument that using an impact wrench and impact sockets causes the lugnuts to go bad, they are admitting it's a design failure. So they themselves are only using hand removal and hand tightening methods while handling all tires using these kind of lugnuts? They are installed in the factory by hand? The dealerships remove the lugnuts by hand then do rotations/balances, flat repairs, wheel bering replacements, alignments and any other service that requires removal of a tire, then reinstalling them by hand? This is the argument they are using? Of course they are using the impact wrenches and sockets to remove and install them. I can't believe they successfully argued this.

After a recent routine visit for an oil change, my local ford dealership sent an e-mail stating I needed to replace both the lugs and studs at a cost of $175. After watching your video I understand now why the lugs but I'm wondering why they say I need the studs replaced as well. Any idea? I have a 2016 Edge with 23000 miles and have maintained excellent service on the vehicle. They didn't mention the required repair while I was there, only after I had left.
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 жыл бұрын
No idea why the studs, but yes the lug nuts deform. The lugs could've been over torqued at some point which can damage the studs, that is common with these quick lube places. I always torque to the proper spec. Try googling why would studs need replacing on your edge, maybe the forums have some info. Good luck!

I had this issue on my Lincoln MKC and as well on my F150. It’s not only moisture, the main cause but salt and dissimilar metal that adds to the swelling. I’d like to get the Judge that threw out the case, have him stand in the highway apron with cars zipping along and then say to me it’s not a safety issue while he’s struggling and unable to get the flat tire off. No impact gun used, only the factory wrench. Your excuse Ford was pure BS and the lame inept Judge bough it. Someone IS going to get killed on the highway trying to get these swollen lugs off, if it has not happened already.
