Public accounting has been the best career decision ive made in my life so far. Not a big firm though im at a small firm with about 25 employees total and 1/3 of them are the partners. A big firm will generally put you in a specific area like audit or tax and often only working in one industry. At the small firm we don't have the luxury to specialize so I get to work on everything from non-profit audits, for profit audits, reviews/compilations, audits of employee benefit plans (401k and 403b mostly). Also every type of tax return 1120s, 1120, 1065, 1040's. Also prepare 990's for the non-profits as well. Ive only been in public accounting for a bit less than 2 years but the amount of things I know how to do now blows my mind sometimes when I think about how far I have come and what I have accomplished.
