I recently judged for the first time at a bouldering comp and I can confirm that everyone is there to try new stuff and just get on the wall! Nobody was criticizing anyone and there was so much encouragement around the gym. Not as scary as it may seem!

I went to my first competition last week where you got points for all 25 problems. The scoring was heavily biased to flashing, you got 11 points for a flash down to 2 points for doing it in 4 or more tries. Any tips to avoid anxiety of needing to flash everything?

I like this gym's scoring system because the point deduction for 2nd and 3rd+ tries wasn't crazy. The points difference between each boulder wasn't huge either. That's a tough one! I find it hard to not beat myself up after failing on the first try especially if there is a line of people watching etc. I have had to reframe how I view comps, giving myself room to enjoy the experience, which has taken the anxious edge off the comps.
