This experiment shows why you should always wipe down your shopping carts.
After testing samples from a dirty and wiped shopping cart at Target, this scientist shows us all the bacteria that grew on n the dirty handle.

Also, just because all the people with autoimmune disorders in filthy countries die, doesn’t mean they have better immune systems. I disinfect everything and don’t get sick when sitting by my sick sister that keeps touching gross stuff. All your doing is making your immune system work harder and less effective against other infections. Keep coping with your filth. Lmao

And food was real back then and wasn't completely full of pesticides and other chemicals. We also didn't live through a pandemic back then. The worst we had to deal with was the whole neighborhood deliberately catching chicken pox during the summer to get it over with. It was not the same in any way shape or form. Also that hose taste in the water was chemicals leeching off of the hoses. It wasn't clean magic tasting water, we were poisoning ourselves.

Yes. It is during the evaporation of the ethanol that the most killing of the bacteria occurs. The ethanol vapeur enters the bacteria easier than the liquid. In the lab we wait for about a minute after wiping to start working on a disinfected surface.

IV poles and pumps have MRSA and C. diff all over them. They never check or clean the wheels. If your pump does not have a “clean by” sticker on it, request a clean pump if you can. There was an outbreak at a hospital and they did a 3M ATP tester on everything and found the IV poles were the cause.

Assumption #1: the disinfectant wipes were really disinfectant wipes. If they are and moist with disinfectant, the tester didn’t wait long enough for the disinfectant to work. All manufacturers have a residence or contact time optimal for their product to work. Just saying. 🖖
@bluewrites2278
@bluewrites2278 8 ай бұрын
That would depend on the wipes. Rubbing alcohol will kill bacteria on contact and doesn't require any dwell time, although it is best to wait a few seconds for the surfave to dry just to be sure. Hydrogen Peroxide or bleach (Sodium Hydrochloride) based disinfectants can require a dwell time of 5 to 10 mins, although wipes may say 60sec as they are expecting that the bacteria is getting trapped within the wipe, therefore the remaining dwell time is still happening.

That is not how you tell how many bacteria live on a surface. He performed a streak on the agar plate. which is used to isolate a single bacteria from a lot of bacteria. To know how many bacteria there are on a surface. You swab a known area and then shake the cotton head in saline solution to release the bacteria in the solution. Then you make a 10 times dilution series (10x 100x, 1000x, upto maybe a million times). An from these you plate out a known amount. the amount of colonies formed on these plates is a good indicator. What is shown here in this video is bogus.

@@austinmiller9689 They show to use inoculation loops to do the spreading with a technique that any microbiologist will recognize as streaking. Although they do not switch loops between streaks, which you would do in a real clean streak. This has two disadvantages. A. This concerns the ability to calculate the number of bacteria on the original surface. The volume transferred to the plate is unknown.The loop can be filled with liquid or there might be a air bubble in there. B.during the streaking the number of bacteria on the loop decreases as they are deposited on the agar. So the spread is uneven. If you look at the plate with bacteria you can see this. So at best the test shown can be used as a qualitative test. Definitely not as a quantitative test. As a molecular/microbiologist I would have like to she them use either a pour and shake method or a (drigalsky) spatula to spread the bacteria all over the plate. This would have been a better visual effect as well, in my opinion. Second, less important, thing is that they have overgrown the plate with bacteria. Those colonies are to bog. It is much easier to count them when the colonies are smaller. I can understand that they did this for the visual effect for the YTshort/TikTok though.
@magnumdrake11
@magnumdrake11 8 ай бұрын
I’m guessing you’ve never worked in a clinical microbiology setting. What he demonstrated is the exact way you’d streak a plate in a clinical microbiology laboratory. This method of streaking is not only used to isolate a single colony, it is used routinely for quantitative and qualitative testing, although not as exact as what you’re describing. The swab he used is the exact swab used to collect samples from human wounds, among other sites. If your method described was used in a clinical setting, it would take days to get through an hours worth of work. So although what he was doing by swabbing a surface and plating it is not something a clinical lab would do, it would still work perfect for demonstrating bacterial growth. Also, you’d never change loops between quadrants while streaking in a clinical setting. The point is to have less bacteria as you move between quadrants, that’s what isolates different colonies and allows a tech to describe the colonies and pick up a colony if needed to isolate on a different plate.

This result did not surprise me. I almost always use the store wipes or my own if necessary. My daughter, for her 5th grade science project made agar plates using the standard gelatin mix and water poured onto steril agar plates. She wrapped individual wooden stick cotton swabs in parchment paper and baked them to sterilize the swabs. She took them to school to swab the common areas at her school including: drinking fountains; lunchroom surfaces; her desk; various doorknobs; her teachers desk; girls bathroom toilet seats; bathroom sinks; her gym locker. Following her sampling protocol, she wore laytex gloves to protect her hands, lab coat, and a face mask. 1) using her steril swabs, she sampled the surfaces, 2) swabed each agar plate using the same cross hatch pattern 3) covered with lid 4) used paraffin tape to seal plate 5) labeled each dish with her name, teachers name, date, time, and location. 6) incubated plates at room temperature in a clean prepared area on our kitchen. 7) after a few days she recorded her observations on: • color • counted colonies • estimated density of growth • determined type of growth, bacteria vs fungal Her results were surprising. They indicated that the teacher's desk was the "dirtiest" surface. The bathrooms and fountains were cleanest places. For cleanup, the plates were opened under 15% bleach water to minimize release of potential airborne contaminates, then washed. This was 40 years ago.

as a matter of fact don't wipe your hands, no one dies for touching handles! our immune system is strong enough to manage most things and grow stronger.

I've never been good with wiping handles, disinfecting anything, washing hands before food. That being said i rarely got sick (once in 2 years) and I love it. Get used to germs and bacteria.

Not all bacteria is bad. We have 2 kilos of bakteria in our bodies and outside that are helping us. So not all bacteria is ”nasty”. This fobia must stop.

Isn't this counterintuitive when you think about it? It keeps your body from being exposed to germs that would keep your immune system going. So when you actually do get sick your immune system is weak.

It would be better for everybody if they make those handles stainless steel. Kills bacteria. That's why most of your doorknobs on your house are made from stainless steel, as are most of your sinks and appliances and faucets etc.

My microbiology class did this on campus. We were sent out and swabbed anything we could find from keyboards to door handles etc. The filthiest thing on the entire campus, even over public toilets was the water fountains. Hundreds of ppl dribbling their unique flora all over them things. A literal cesspool!!!!! 🤮

My daughter was born in 81 around 83 my daughter caught chicken pox off of a grocery cart handle not once but twice she didn't get it bad enough the first time to create an immune system so she picked it up a second time yes this is possible after that either I wiped it off or I carry something to cover it with

People do really gross things, I was at the hospital for a cancer screening test (so far so good btw). I was sitting in front of a bank of elevators, a very pretty young lady & her boyfriend approached, one of her eyes was red swollen & oozing pus, looked awful. She kept touching it! I could SEE the infection on her fingers!!! then SHE TOUCHED THE ELEVATOR BUTTONS WITH HER PUS SMEARED FINGERS!!!! and then she touched her eye again! Infection back and forth, spreading sickness and picking up new germs at the same time, it's a vicious circle!

He swabbed it while the handle was still wet from the wipe of course that’s what is going to happen. You have to wait for the surface to dry then swab it. The clincher would have been using just a plain dry paper towel as well to wipe it down.
