I generally buy a box and trade for what I didn't get with cards I will likely not use, as that's how I love approaching TCGs/CCGs. Staples can be purchased later, but finding the cards that will skyrocket is always a fun game, loved cryptic coat before it got hype.

I went to the prerelease, pulled a Ulamog, 3 fetches, 2 flip planeswalkers, and a promo Herighast. Best pulls I've ever gotten from a box and it was a PRERELEASE.

Buying preorder singles usually ends up with them dropping in price, but sometimes the cards just go up instead, like sheoldred the apocalypse, paid $25 preorder released at $40 and is now at $85. Somethimes the juice is sour, but sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze

I usually buy anything around the $10-$15 range since they will only fall a few dollars at most and if they do I didn't lose much. Anything above that is a no go

I mainly picked up the mono coloured MDFCs and rarelands, which were around $2 each. I'm not expecting them to drop, and if they do, it won't be by that much. The most expensive thing I got was a ruby medallion for $6 - compared to the previous price tag of $20 this is an absolute steal. I can only see the medallions going up but again, even if it goes down I'm already satisfied with the current price point I got it at.

I cracked two boxes and of course, pulled zero cards I was chasing and only a handful I was interested in. I’m waiting on prices to drop but also worried cards I want like NecroD will spike. 😅

Cardboard crack strikes again! $500 on stuff you have no use for when the singles you wanted are collectively ~$100 or less. I only recently kicked the habit of "treating" myself by spending money irresponsibly on magic product. I have more money to spend irresponsibly on nights out now 😭

@@AllstateManlove lol… not my first rodeo. I have also stopped buying boxes of every set. I have always bought boxes, packs, AND singles. I don’t play commander anymore, so I brew less and buy less. Total fatigue. I made an exception for MH3 cause I’m all in on Modern and Legacy.

Glad the energy cards aren’t too expensive, I went to check just out of curiosity’s getting all the new precon ones and a handful of the ones from the set was like- 15-20 bucks for like 20 cards

Bought 5 boxes at prerelease, sold half of the stuff I didnt want, or feel it would remain high. Used the proceeds to fund 3/4 of my next full foil modern deck. Approx 1/2 of what I spent, and still have all the fetches, good foils, and bunch of trade stuff. Feels good.

Part of the drop here is in chaff though. Even chaff has a "high" price tag when spoiled. If a chaff uncommon was spoiled and the price was set at $0.99 and then drops to $0.07, you get a huge % drop. This adds up quick when 90% of the sets is mostly unplayable. So the overall set value will almost assuredly drop a ton. But the high value cards will likely not drop that much. Obviously it just falls to speculation, but the numbers used here are not that helpful.

I bought a booster box (non-collectors) for my brother (still a minor) who just got into magic for his first real set. We got some stuff, got an emrakul which he really wanted but in overall price we opened a little more than what the box was worth so it's okay I guess. He did learn a valuable lesson about cardboard crack. Side Note: My goodness the damn commander decks are exploding. Good thing I ordered the precon eldrazi incursion at 70

Let's not forget that Fury and Force of Negation were $7 and $25 each at release and they did nothing but climb to the moon after that. Can't say whether buying Flare of Denial right now or later is correct though. $20 ain't bad but it could be $80 or it could be $7 next month.

This set is just fun to play... people are selling out their pre-release events and everyone is finding the set super fun. Limited Play is going to outsell singles, bringing the prices on singles down, predictably. But, yeah, you should be playing the set to have the most enjoyable product engagement with Modern Horizon's 3.

Urza incubator was $12 and fetch lands are $13-15 on tcg atm Do you think those will drop further?

I'd wager they'll drop as the MH3 hype dies down, stablize for a few months then go up depending on the cards. Incubator I'd wager going down due to being good in singleton formats while fetch lands will slowly rise because they're in demand bloody everywhere. Check back in 1~3 weeks or monitor those cards.

@Matteo.C because you can get away with proxies at tournaments if you sleeve properly, quite easily. I wouldn't be surprised if a good amount of players at big events don't own any the expensive cards A legacy deck could cost thousands of dollars, and you can get one that looks nearly identical without a magnifying glass or microscope for a tenth the price. Or you can build edh to play casually or w/e
