Mine (a black satin longhair Syrian) used to sleep in the gap between my pillows in my bed. I used to wake up nose to nuts with him. Loved him to bits. I used to be an owner of two loving hammies, I was young and pretty naive and didn’t really know how to take care of them and it surprises me to this day that the first one lived up to three full years without any problems but the second one met a terrible fate after hurricane Maria in 2017 (I live in Puerto Rico, a tropical Island for those who don’t know) and died due to a heatstroke after only six months of living with me. I blamed myself a lot for it even though it wasn’t really anyone’s fault and decided to take a break from getting any pets for a long time. Now that 2019 is almost ending I find myself looking at numerous videos of hamsters/hamster care and everything related to them and have decided to give it a shot again. Sadly, I don’t have adoption centers for small critters near me so I’ll have to go buy one at PetSmart but I’ll make sure to give him/her the best life ever and not commit the same mistakes ever again. Twilley and Andy, mama still misses you both dearly 🥺❤️

my hamster passed away 2 weeks ago but she was my best friend, I live in a houseshare so mainly confined to my bedroom but Lunch loved running about, climbing up my wardrobe, my tv unit, I even woke up in the middle of the night once because she escaped and decided to sit on my face whilst I was sleeping, I’ve struggled a lot since she’s passed as she helped me sleep at night massively and hearing her relaxed me so much, other people don’t realise how much of an impact these tiny little creatures have on you

I am mr clean H03... first of all sit down. My hamsters have everything they need, not only that but I’m constantly spoiling them. So if I were you, I wouldn’t talk. And yes I’ve done my research and watched all Victoria’s videos. I definitely take care of my hamsters very well and i interact with them on a daily basis but for me that isn’t considered high maintenance, we clearly have different definitions of what “high maintenance” is.

This video actually helped me feel better about my grief with loosing my hamster 2 days ago. Hearing tori mention how some hamsters are difficult to please no matter what you do made me feel so much better. I've been beating myself up about it because a few weeks prior to her passing I had thoughts about how I regretted getting her because I felt like I just couldn't provide her with everything she wanted and then when she suddenly passed its hit really hard and I keep blaming myself for her death and almost feel like its my fault when it wasn't 😭 i miss her so much but hearing Tori say that made me feel better in the sense that now I know my baby Maisy-Moo was just a difficult to please fur baby. I just wish I was able to give her more but sadly I 1. Couldn't afford it and 2. My bedroom atm can only fit the bare minimum requirement enclosure that Tori has mentioned before. I just wish I could've prevented her from passing so soon. She was about to turn 1 on the 24th of March, 2 days from now 😭 my poor baby girl, I will miss you so much 💔

I’m planning on getting a hamster. I’ve already learned a lot about hamsters. I have 4 cats, but I’m determined to keep my hamster under control. I had a beta fish and he lasted quite a while. (He died because our power went out and he got too cold :( ) I myself am nocturnal. I would love a hamster. I will try my best to take care of a hamster. The only hard thing for me is their life span. My first hamster lived just over two years but in the end got very poorly and ended up having to be put down and it broke my heart. He was a beautiful little boy and so kind and playful. I still miss him now and it’s been 7 years.

As someone with guinea pigs (which have all of the typical rodent “problems” in addition to some more livestock associated ones!) I love these kind of videos so much. I think this is a great video and things that I considered when I got my hamster. I got my hamster because I wanted a pet that I knew I could spend time with in the evening/early morning and didn't have to feel bad about leaving during the day because he'd be sleeping. I just want to say thankyou. 2 months ago I had a Syrian hamster living in a 200 square inch cage with 1 inch of cheap bedding, just a wheel and some hides, then I found your channel. You have helped me come so far with my hamster care. One day I was looking at my Syrian chewing the bars of his terrible cage and I thought ‘this needs to change’. That weekend I went to ikea and purchased a detolf, which my hamster lived it’s life in with plenty of toys and 9 inches of Kaytee clean and cozy bedding. Three days ago my hamster passed away and today I purchased another hamster and I have named her Victoria in honour of you and how you completely changed my hamster care. So thankyou, you have no idea how much you have changed me, whether or not you live on the other side of the world.

Murmel was he first pet I ever chose to look after myself. He has always been the most social little guy, loving my friends the second he sees them. He's accompanied me through most of my transition FtM up till now, he's been the only reason I got up some days, because I knew he was dependent on me caring for him. He survived a head injury with the odds being 50/50. He is suffering from allergies or autoimmune defects (we don't really know what is going on), but he is still going strong and loving life, running up to me and jumping on my arm, even though I have to give him eyedrops every day. It's very hard to see his dandruff, his losing of fur and then growing back when I can do nothing more to help him than I already have. Mick died from cancer in my hands. i tried to revive him, I thought I had suffocated him with his meds, but I didn't, it wasn't my fault. One minute he was reaching up to my hands the next he was laying lifeless in my lap. Owning a hamster can be an amazing experience, but it can also be heartbreaking and you might never feel like you got enough time with them. Murmel's death is going to hit me hard, I already know that. I will never love another animal the way I love this little guy. I don't regret anything though, because I learned so much from being with my little best friend. Still it's definitely something you have to think about when you get a hamster. These guys don't live as long, and illnesses are harder to spot, so sometimes sudden deaths can be traumatic. And although one vet visit may not always cost the world, oftentimes you have to go more often because with a hamster it's harder to tell what exactly the cause of many symptoms is. To put it into perspective: For Murmel over the last few months I definitely payed over 700€ in vet bills. I see this so often in Forums, even if people have a lot of space, you see again and again posts where it is said "my hamster is sick but I don't have money for a vet visit". It's easy to forget vet bills, I know because I didn't know exactly how much it could add up either. So if you want to own a hamster do inform yourself about the costs around you.

I saved a hamster a few minutes ago, I found my neighbour with 2 hamsters, outside their house. I’m fine with it if it is under a shade, with good cage, BUT NO. There’s one with a small tiny habitrail and there’s one with.. Lunch box. I saved the one in the lunch box with their permission and immediately put her into a proper storage box with lots of bedding. When I found them, there was no bedding as well...

A couple of years ago, my hamster Fluffy chewed through the bottom part of her cage (which was plastic) so I put her cage into a large container and went to sleep. I woke up at 5 in the morning with a nibbling on my elbow...it was Fluffy waking me up! Best hamster moment everrr!! LOL!!

I think this is really important to talk about - I know so many people who have gotten a hamster and later had to rehome them (usually to someone who doesn't know about their proper care which is upsetting). What is the point of getting a pet you can not properly care for? As much as I'd love to adopt another hamster (bringing my total to four) I know that I would be jeopardizing my current ones happiness

I'm not Victoria but try hand feeding veggies and spend time with them (my hamster had babies she died shortly after and I have the babies away I kept one and I hand feed treats and I do I little 1 on 1 quality time with her and she doesn't bite me as much as she used to)
