I love how well used this tank of a camera looks. That peeling rubber grip says a lot. Personally, I use AP when handheld 99% of the time (with ISO selected by me), simply because the human eye isn't as good of a light meter as the one built into the camera - BUT I have on occasion used AP just to get an exposure reading then switch over to manual and used the same settings. The reason being is consistency in exposure when I know I will be processing many subsequent shots exactly the same - I can copy/paste settings to all the images. Other than that - if I'm on a tripod, I'm using manual. If I'm using flash - manual. Who trusts TTL after all? Cheers!

The 6D has seen better days. I have an R6 too but I film with that so sometimes still shoot with the 6D. Sounds like you shoot in a similar way to me really!

100% agree. I used to photograph weddings and once a sister of the groom with her own camera to photograph ‘authentic’ photos scoffed at me for shooting in aperture priority because pros shoot manual. But i explained how i’m going between so many environments that it was the best and i set parameters for shutter speed and ISO. During dinner, the slide show played including some images I captured early in the day before guests started to arrive. I asked the bride and groom how the photos looked, and they were amazed. I asked the grooms sister if she wanted to get some of her photos in there and she said ‘I haven’t edited mine yet’ to which i replied by telling her those photos were from my Fuji XT3 and were JPGs and not the main ones i was delivering. At the time i was still using my Nikon D810 for paid work and the Fuji for other photos. Funny thing, I eventually started photographing all my weddings on Fuji before wedding work started to make me incredibly jaded.

Oh I couldn't do weddings but you'd miss so many moments shooting full manual!

I totally agree! A lot of people or photographers encourage people to shoot in manual. I get that if you shoot manual you gain experiences and knowledges faster but if you know how it works, manual is just hassle. I honestly shoot 100% of the time on aperture priority only. cuz for my photography, that’s all I need. I shoot landscape most of the time so I naturally have a tripod with me so I almost ignore shutter speed completely unless it’s long exposure. The rest are ISO and aperture, for ISO, I set it to auto with acceptable max ISO. Aperture for landscape is usually 8-15 F anyways.

It is if course a great way to learn but I think a lot of beginners would be surprised at how many more experienced photographers shoot in some kind of partly automatic setting!
