Everyone must choose one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

I am learning, to welcome into my whole being the FEAR of discipline ..... without stopping the task.....It seems the source of our power is not a muscular, physical, effortful thing ~~. but a letting go and viewing ourselves as a vessel for that greater magnificence to pour through. It's a strange practice of standing outside ourselves, as though on a high hill, and watching the intensity of purpose in a way, use us for great good...

Hi Doug, I’ve considered going vegetarian/vegan... I’ve been concerned about not getting enough protein or feeling bad... I would love to hear your experience and if you really feel better (physically) going vegan? Thank you for your input!

Tracy Dawn first things first. Most vegetables have proteins and/or the necessary amino acids that make up proteins. 100 calories of broccoli has more protein than 100 calories of sirloin steak Amazing! Insufficient protein consumption is pretty much unheard of as far as a medical condition in any first world countries. The consumption of animal fats and proteins is actually one of the leading causes of heart disease, kidney failure, etc...Having said that I always have a little pea protein milk in my oatmeal or granola, a fruit smoothie with protein powder or make delicious tofu scramble tacos for breakfast. I usually have beans in at least one meal a day and proteins in lots of other veggies. Yeah I feel great and I lost weight. People often think I am younger than I actually am. Good luck.

I love that he talks about how hard it is to even know what goals to set based in being clear on your values, etc. I would say this does not just come from introspection but also bumping up against the world and maintaining awareness of how you feel/think about things. Everyone talks about goals, but not enough I think about the work involved in knowing yourself

I love to listen to Tom Bilyeu's interview because when you interview your guests, the one question you asked has always been what actually runs in their mind at that point of time when they decided to change to be a better person. Their thinking process and their feeling. This is something I don't get in other videos. Thanks Tom for all your extremely informative interview processes.

I think excuses are a sort of coping mechanism that our brains create so that we can tell ourselves why exactly it's okay to be not doing what it is that we should be doing. We all have dreams, big dreams! But most of us come up with excuses as to why their dreams aren't acquirable. That's because making your dream come to life takes work, a lot of hard work, effort, determination, dedication, discipline, etc. It's hard, but making excuses, that's easy. We come up with our own excuses just to give ourselves reasons as to why we aren't chasing our dreams. It gives us a sort of mental satisfaction. So, please! Don't make excuses! Your dreams are out there just waiting for you to grab them! You can do it! I believe in you!

The psychological term is Cognitive Dissonance. It's where you believe in one thing (e.g: your goals or dreams) but you do something counterproductive (e.g: procrastination). That's uncomfortable for your brain to deal with because your mind is all you have to deal with the outside world and if something's not right, we can't really function. In order to restore order, you either change what you think or change what you do. In most circumstances it's more convenient to change what you belief/think in order accommodate the actions you've made instead of recognizing and changing your acitons, which is why we make excuses. That, and feeling depressed about it later are two almost separate process although they influence each other.

@@nGAhGENVH0Ul No it's not. That's the whole point. Is that pain is a "governor" (as Goggins describes it) on our mind/body potential. It does signal that something is wrong, but pushing past that point allows you to unlock a mindset and access a part of your mind/body connection that you could not tap into before. Going past your pain threshold effectively puts YOU in control of your mind, instead of the norm - which is your MIND being in control of you. If you want to succeed, you need to go to war with yourself. Never give up, and push past the pain to something greater. Your pain receptors are just there to say "it's getting testy, this is NOT recommended", but just like anything else 'non-recommended' it doesn't mean it is FORBIDDEN! You can go past that point, you can do MORE, you can be BETTER - but only if you're willing to be the one in control of your mind and not the other way around. If you give in at the pain threshold, your mind knows it has the control and will stop you at 40% every time with everything you do. But if you start showing it that it's not in control and it's simply along for the ride and it better buckle up - then you've unlocked the ability to achieve nearly ANYTHING. Stay hard people. Let's go!!!

I'm going to listen again tomorrow when I'm sober. I've been listening to Rich for a few years now but for some reason this interview connected more than all the podcasts of his I listen to. I drink too much but still find the ambition or inner drive to run or cycle or whatever to get my burn. But that is still not healthy. I turn 40 in 3 months and I'd really like to kick this habit of turning to alcohol for happiness or sadness or any emotion in between. Drinking feels good. Not only the feeling of being completely drunk and your body feels weightless but how it opens my mind artistically. I love how it makes me hear music and see a blank canvas. I'm going to miss it but I will find sobriety. I want sobriety. Rich is a large part of my journey. Such positive vibes. I will achieve my goal. I promise.

I may have already commented some time ago about this interview, but truly, both Rich and Tom are two of my favorite influencers. I follow both of you and gain valuable insights from each. When I made the conscious effort to change my eating from the SAD (standard American Diet) to a whole food plant based eating protocol, Rich Roll gave me some great info to follow. In addition, at 35 years sober, I loved hearing your story about recovery. And with Tom, my sister and I both enjoyed hearing any of your experts on The Impact Theory show while during a time of healing from surgery. Powerful stuff and I still gain so much. Wisdom on steroids is the best way to describe what I get from both of you.

Great interview and perspectives. I felt so much resonance because I have recently re-organized my life in a massive way towards my TRUE personal muse which is original songwriting, and my physical and mental health to support it. When Rich said, to find your true self, ask: Who do you resent? What keeps you up at night? What are you afraid of? I could honestly answer, a year ago I resented successful musicians, what kept me up at night was my anxiety about not making music, and what I was afraid of was losing myself in distractions and dying with the songs still in me. In the past 6-12 months everything has changed because I've completely refocused my daily activities and habits around my health and my music. I've written 15 new songs in the past 3 months, with more on the way - that's more songs than I wrote in the previous 30 years combined. I still have other aspects of my "former life" to keep up with, but now they have the PURPOSE and CONTEXT of supporting the muse at the core of my heart, and everything is so much clearer, happier, less anxious, and more productive. There's a long way to go, but I'm not afraid or anxious anymore :)

I relate to this so much! Since I started a business, money has been my greatest teacher. First, hating it. Never wanting to be wealthy, or like "those rich people". Then realizing that it was so driven out of fear and lack of self worth. And then understanding that I want to do business with feminine energy: the energy of asking for help, receiving, supporting back. That's how business becomes fluid, fun and beautiful. And letting go (as a control freak, not easy): letting go of the belief that money has to come a certain way, from certain people. And to just trust and have faith that the right clients will come because they will benefit from my service. And if they're not ready, that's ok. And to coach them through all of that.

The end really struck me. It’s like at one point self reliance was a necessity, right? But then, it became a liability and he didn’t see when the shift happened. I relate to this heavy! It’s a complete brainwash of not needing anyone. But as humans we are communal animals, herds. We need each other.

Why do you want to do what you want to do? This is a great fundamental question to ask yourself. Most people go along a path they think is right because of what society says. Is it right for you? Deep at your core, based on your values, are you doing what is right for you so you aren't questioning your life daily!

Good luck to everybody else on this journey! I came to a similar rock-bottom last year. He uses all the same words I uncovered from a time of unemployment and personal crisis (Letting Go - David Hawkins etc.). I'm still creating the life I really want, results tbc...but so cool and empowering to see how it's going to work out later on :)

Great interview and I solely resonate with what he was saying about being on top, having everything and everyone, to losing it all. I've been there several times, and I'm currently struggling my way back on top. It's all about developing and maintaining success habits and not bad habits like he for instance started drinking and whatnot. You need to keep doing those things that will keep you on the upward spiral and not the downward spiral. Thus, be your own best friend instead of your worst enemy and know that you are worthy of success and happiness, while also keeping in mind that it does not come easy. The trickiest part in life is dealing with other people because you are always dependent on them to get what you want. You also have fake friends, rivals, and competitors everywhere looking to take you down and replace you. If just working hard and smart was all it took then we would all be successful. Thus, the things he was saying about you need to know who you are and what your values are, is the first step. To become successful at anything, it's always better to focus on ONE thing and keep at it. You also need to find a good organization and create a great team that will produce the best results. Choose your sacrifice basically.
