Also, to add i think a big disconnect is that people view Dr Michael Heiser's work as if these are things he soley came up with, when in reality he was a populariser, bring out scholarship on ANE studies that were already in circulation but many were reluctant to give to the laity. The stuff he presents isn't Heiserian he just puts out the scholarship for laymen like us, like his podcast the naked bible podcast is references after references.

I must say I am thoroughly appalled at the few minutes of video You have shown so far. They have misquoted nearly everything he said. Considering that his videos are still available on KZbin and on his website, I feel there's no excuse for them to misquote him so much. It's really sad to see what some people will do, to make a name for themselves. The scholarship I've heard from this man so far is not very impressive. It's not a good idea to try and rebuke the teachings of someone that you've never read, nor watched any of his videos. Going by what he said so far, it clearly seems that everything he's talking about he received by her words, not Dr Heiser's. 🥺

The attack on Heiser is horrible, but even more so because I understand the motivations. I had the privilege of being one of the first to take his courses in his new *Aweakening School* and I know that Dr. Heiser did not imagine the turn that the appropriation of the cosmology he presents in Unseen Realm would take. At least, from what I perceived while I was active in the Facebook group connected to his work and classes, in addition to what I have seen in the time since, -many people who delved into Heiser's teachings have moved to traditional Christianity, especially Eastern Orthodoxy*. Anglo-Saxon Orthodox apologists themselves use him as a reference, and in Catholicism I believe they do as well, but on a much smaller scale. The most striking example of how Dr. Heiser's work overlaps with Orthodoxy is the book by the Father and academic Stephen DeYoung. His book *Religion of the Apostles* is basically Unseen Realm, but from an Orthodox perspective. DeYoung has a popular podcast, The Lord of Spirits, which around the time Heiser passed away, mentioned his respect for him and that there were conversations with people who were interested in sitting them down to talk, but they never interacted with each other. DeYoung admitted that they both used similar sources for their research and that many people thought they were somehow related in academia, but it was false that they ever interacted. And as a personal anecdote, *I can confirm the fact that Dr. Heiser was unaware of his overlap with Orthodoxy* and of DeYoung's existence. In one of the live classes that the course included, I asked him directly if he knew about the existence of DeYoung's book, and he said no, and he was also surprised that his work looked similar, since he stressed that he had never been interested in any official system of Christianity and his position was non-denominational because he was not satisfied with any system (something he said in public multiple times). He also replied that he did not do any exhaustive research into Orthodoxy for the book, only what had to do with his mention of the doctrine of theosis in the footnotes dealing with the replacement of the rebel council by glorified believers. Finally, he mentioned that he would take it into account to investigate and see if it would be something he could take into account for contacting DeYoung for the podcast or something like that. There was never the opportunity to touch on the subject again, after that module he was diagnosed with cancer if I remember correctly. I personally am considering moving to Orthodoxy, Heiser's work was only one piece of it, and I have already visited an Orthodox Church for the first time in my country, which there are only 3 and in areas very far from me. It is a shame because it is something he never had in mind, and they want to destroy his legacy to prevent him from continuing to be part of the trend that is occurring in the rise in popularity of Orthodox apologists in the Anglo-Saxon world. The focus is not on Heiser per se, but on what has been going on around his work and the same old denominational struggles. But, I recommend listening to 2 or 3 episodes of DeYoung's podcast, the similarity in their ways of approaching the text is uncanny.

Around 1:15:00 Heiser interacted with that on a Q&A episode. The "so-called" language is really a translator bias. It's more literally saying there are many things called/named "gods." Paul then adds parenthetically that there ARE indeed many lords and many gods. As to the question that was asked about where Heiser stood on the others gods, if the question is "did Heiser think Baal, for example, actually existed or was specifically put over a geographical region?" I know he interacted with questions like that but I can't remember where. But I'm pretty sure to a question like the one I just posed I think Heiser would have simply said no. I think he would've said there were spirits ("gods") placed over those regions, yes. The bible is clear there. But the various gods you read about in ancient literature was just the cultural understanding of that spirit.

What I don't get about Doreen's video, why her panel never engaged Michael's material in depth. It is sloppy research on the her panel's side and very discourteous. I suppose we all do that but to imply a person is a heretic without studying their material is not Christlike. Was this just a hit piece due to a lack of understanding? Doreen should repent for assassinating one's character like this.

oh, first time I read your comment I saw it saying God is "warning" against evil spiritual beings. you actually wrote warring, which is better, much more then just warning, but you got hours of Heiser condensed and shaken and pressed down to one sentence and it is so right on, I love it! somewhere in some dictionary you're a clear winner of the best nutshell ever, too bad only diligent or sincere students of Heiser will thoroughly appreciate the intricate nuances of your summary. I think Heiser would thoroughly agree with it. there is such beauty in brevity, I appreciate it as much as it persistently eludes me. as you can see. 😅😂

Incredible strawman and out of context claims in Doreen’s video released today. Obvious adherence to a reformed view coloring their lens through which they read the text. They would be wise to do their best to steelman Heiser’s case at the very least.
