It's so frustrating when I can create a pretty cool character freehand without laying out the head in a proper 3D structure, but when I try to nail down the structure so I can draw that face from any angle, it just looks so bad in comparison. It's hard to integrate structural "correctness" with a certain superficial aesthetic that can't be "calculated", if you know what I mean...

I find that if you create a cool character composition and want to draw it at a different angle its best to look at how the facial features land/ look. ignoring face shape/ structure till the features look right then re draw what looks wrong around the main features. For me at least it usually ends with a reasonably consistent character.
@oohyah75 жыл бұрын
You should try gesture drawing first then adding anatomical correctness. I have the same problem as you but ive found re ordering the way I draw changed a lot for me! Good luck mate!

Tip For Begginers: Draw the character ref sheet all on the same page! So you only have to look at what you’re doing to know what the character looks like! Then when you get comfortable drawing without the ref-sheet with you, then you’re ready to animate/write a comic!

I'm having this problem right now. My character looks like he'd be simple to draw while looking at him but its hard for me to draw him over as perfect as before. His hair and facial features have to be specific for him to look like himself. He wasn't an image I had in my head he just happen to come from me spontaneously trying to draw a cool character. Ugh.

Animators create a model sheet for a character, to help all the artists draw it consistently. This should work well in manga too. Even if you can memorize the whole design of the character it's still good to have a reference.

I have trouble not only with the features but the personality. It changes so much, even though the features are pretty accurate. Seems like that part comes from yourself, your own feelings about character traits. And I find you can't get slavish about reproducing the face because then it loses some freshness. Tough gig.
