I particularly loved the towers with swirling staircases added to the main palace of Shiz. As soon as I saw that I immediately recognized the inspiration taken from Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo in Venice, and somehow that little nod to the water city par excellence made so much sense (as well as making me happy to see such familiar architecture in the movie)

"It was very carefully done, we really took our time in a great way, we didn't go "Oh let's just arbitrarily do this to pad it out" we were very judicious..." THANK YOU!!! MORE OF THIS!!! ARE YOU LISTENING CEOS OF MOVIE STUDIOS????

There is water in Oz, and considering that Shiz is located in the Gillikin Provence of Northern Oz, if you look at the map, it IS coastal, essentially having cliffs and possible estuaries and waterways that could lead to the university.

In the books, Oz is surrounded by a desert, not an ocean.

@ you’re right, I was thinking of the larger map, that shows the lands beyond Oz specifically!!

I like the idea that even though Oz is surrounded by deserts on the outside, there's still somehow lots of water/rivers inside of Oz. Idk how, but I just like the feel of it.

After watching the movie and then rewatching a bootleg video of the second act of the musical again, I’m glad that split it in two, gave it time to breathe, and added some to the second part 2/Act 2. Act 2 of the musical very much does feel like a rush to the end that needs more fleshing out. Travel and time seems to be a little all over the place. I love “For Good” and the ending, but Glinda’s power over Ms. Morrible and the Wizard needs some more development than the Musical gives. Why does everyone just follow Glinda’s orders without question at that point? Especially with who those orders are against? Would also appreciate Nessarose and Boq and Munchkinland’s changes being fleshed out. How can Nessarose read the tome? Maybe more Dorothy and Cowardly Lion than the musical gives in Act 2, too. 😊

They are both in the movie. Winnie is the one who pointed at the Wizard hologram and said "He must be... a wizard!" while Stephen is the one who said "The Wizard will see you now!"

In the movie, the wicked witch should’ve had emerald green eyes that really popped. It would make it even a better costume.

She does have green eyes in the movie. They went through so many green contacts and looked for what works best with Cynthia that makes sure that it still looks natural.

Act 1 = movie 1 Act 2 = movie 2 Do we need a whole video for that…

They edited out the ending then excluded it from the marketing. There you go. Mystery solved.

You haven't seen the movie if you say this. It works perfectly as 2 movies. It would be such a mess if it was just 1 movie.

The second movie is the entire second act of the play but probably with more added. So, it’s not just editing out the ending. The problem is that the second act is a decent amount weaker than the first. Most of the best songs are in the first act, and the story is rushed but generally less messy than in the second act. So, it will be interesting to see how the second movie turns out.

Spoilers-- They padded Defying Gravity. There was NO REASON for that whole hot air balloon sequence, or stopping right before "and nobody in all of Oz..." It ruins the amazing drive that the final moments of the song are supposed to have.

@@sheismymom i still loved Defying Gravity, but it would have been better less tampered with. Overall though this movie was mind blowing to me. I had to sit in the car for a minute and compose myself before driving home!

Ive seen the play a few times, and even then I've always walked out wondering "wtf is the point of wheelchair people can also be evil" storyline. Seems like an awful lot of pointless effort just to cram the tin man in there.
