The death of Homer's mother. When he comes downstairs to apologise for being a jerk, she has "fallen asleep" in an armchair. He's gone to some effort to make an apology card. When he sees she's apparently asleep, he asks, "Why are your eyes still open?" Gut punch. Ned Flanders is newly a widower. Homer puts him to bed and, despite their history, kisses him on the forehead. It's that moment of empathy, and we sense that Homer can clearly imagine how he'd be feeling if it had been Marge. In a later episode, Ned is ready to move on, and finally straightens the undersheet on the bed so that Maude's indentation no longer shows. Milhouse has a birthday party. Not only is Bart not invited, Bart doesn't even know about it. When he finds out... Flashback episode when Bart is resentfully aware he's going to have a sister. He imagines her as a generic baby. When Lisa actually arrives, I choked up. The Flowers For Algernon episode when it's discovered Homer's lack of intelligence is due to having a crayon up his nose. Lisa is delighted to have an intelligent father for a while. Later, when Homer reverts, and Lisa hugs him, really loving her father the way he is, but aware now of the father she could have had but never will. I cannot re-watch this episode; as soon as I realise it's the one with the crayon, I have to change channel or switch off. Futurama moments: Fry's dog, and the one where Fry's mother is given a dream of her lost son.

One episode that (surprisingly) packed an emotional wallop for me was the one in which Homer's bartender, Moe, started a romantic relationship with a "little person." She broke up with him because she felt he was insensitive about her height. The sad irony was, he was VERY sensitive about her height, and had gone out of his way to avoid hurting her feelings even slightly. When SHE started making fun of her height, he naturally felt the ice had been broken. Then he planned to salvage his relationship with her by undergoing surgery to become a little person himself, but this offended her even more. In the end, Moe is supposed to feel grateful that he got the chance to temporarily have a girlfriend at all...as if that's supposed to ease the pain of breaking up with someone you love.
@tivednagol91274 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's the point. The point was that Moe needed to look past his girlfriend's physical attributes and love her for who she was, and that if he had he'd be loved for himself in turn.

One Simpsons episode I think is massively overlooked is the season 3 episode Separate Vocations in which Bart and Lisa take the school’s personality test to see which career path is best suited for them and the results basically have them in reversed roles for the episode. Now while it is great to see Bart find his way to potentially becoming a Police Officer with a possible future, it is devastating to see Lisa give in to apathy and self destruction after she’s told that she would only function as a homemaker, rendering all her talent, intellect and nonconformity meaningless. @slashbash13475 жыл бұрын
All things considered, it was really nice of Mr. Burns to let Homer have his job back. Sure, he put that plaque up, but Homer assaulted him, humiliated him, AND destroyed company property (literally burning a bridge). If he really wanted Homer to suffer, he would've shooed him away.

One of my favorites is titled, "Old Money." Grandpa Simpson's friend Bea passes away leaving him her fortune. Despite spending some of the money on himself, he doesn't find any fulfillment, so he decides to use it to help others. He goes gambling and increases the fortune, but then sees his fellow residents at the retirement home living miserably. So he spends the money renovating the home, culminating in a lovely dining hall named in Bea's memory. It concludes when Grandpa opens the doors, inviting the residents in saying, "C'mon in! Dignity's on me, friends!"

Bart: "So why no pictures?" Homer: "Oh there are pictures, I keep them where I need the most cheering up." (Maggie Makes Three) I love that scene, definitely one of the best endings along with, Maggies first word Mona leaving in the van

The moment that always gets me is the Valentines episode where they show Ralph giving everyone in his class a valentine, they all shake out their bags producing dozens of valentines, then you see Ralph, shaking his bag, then sadly looking in it to the realization that no one has given him even one valentine. Even a friend Valentine! He starts to cry and buries his head to hide his tears at being the only one singled out so harshly. Lisa erases her name from one of her cards and gives it to Ralph. Unfortunately he reacts by falling desperately for her. Ralph is more then a little dim, it's true, but he is a sweet kid who never hurt anyone, and it makes me cry when he cries in this episode

Those final "goodbyes" from One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish is just... it means something else if you've gone through the pain of losing someone close. Life is finite, you only have a certain amount of time on this planet, and to see something like the end of that time represented is scary and saddening, even in a cartoon. If you've gone through those goodbyes with someone else, then you'll cry near instantly.

The ending of Mother Simpson was really sad and so was Lisa's Substitute especially when Lisa says goodbye to Mr. Bergstrom.
@armorybrunotjr.32045 жыл бұрын
My lachrymose moments of "The Simpsons": 1. The death of Maude Flanders. 2. Bea Simmons passes at the senior center. 3. Lisa's sub,Mr. Bergstrom leaves Springfield. 4. Milhouse Van Houten's romance to Samantha Stankey broken up. (Bart was responsible.) 5. Bart breaking up with Greta Wolfcastle. 6. Bart decapitating the statue of Jebediah Springfield. 7. Marge kicking Homer out of the house after he was seen in a picture of him dancing with Princess Kashmir. (Bart took the picture.) 8. Milhouse's parents choosing to divorce without telling him about it (they subsequently remarried). 9. Homer's mom is alive, yet she was gone for a long time. (She subsequently died) 10. The first time Homer was fired from SNPP, and it ironically happened when Bart was on a field trip.

How comes that nobody mention that bart is a chemie genius, but he is mistreated from his father und ignort by his family? Actually the whole family is a tragedy: Homer is a genius but he has a pen in his brain Bart is a chemistry genius Lisa is an all round genius Magie... she can comunicate with animals if only half of Homers grandpas stories are true than he is a war hero and an explorer like indiana johns Homers grandmother was something too... And Marge was an all round genius like lisa but tosed it away for homer... That is truly sad

Fun Fact: IN the episode "Smart and Smarter" Marge writes on a piece of paper "You are Lisa Simpson" when Lisa is upset that Maggie has a higher IQ than Lisa but then Lisa goes on to say she already has one of those showing a frame with a note with the same words on it and a picture of Mr.BurgStrom so basically Lisa never forgot about Mr.BurgStrom

The saddest moment in The Simpsons was in the episode 'Hom-r' when it turns out the only reason Homer is an idiot is because there's a crayon in his brain. He has the crayon removed and becomes much smarter and hangs out more with his daughter, Lisa. After realizing he's too smart for everyone around him, he has the crayon put back in after writing Lisa a letter about how becoming smart made him realize how great she was. That episode always gets me

Lisa’s sub made me cry. In 6th grade I was bullied and my teacher stood up for me. I loved her. She was the best sub I ever had. She cared about us and was proud of us. She was my senior year teacher and I nearly balled my eyes out when I saw her. She was there for me during my ED and bullying. She always made me smile and laugh. I never got to say goodbye my senior year because of COVID. I wanted t thank her so bad for caring about me and being there for me. I love her dearly and I wish she got to see me graduate

Becoming a father to a little girl, Lisa’s Substitute has a scene that makes me tear up harder than the note: when Lisa is inconsolable at dinner over Bergstrom’s departure and Homer barely feigns interest (insultingly), her outburst followed by her immediate crying upstairs guts me every time, and when Homer begins to make it about his own hurt feelings, Marge shuts him down fast with lines that have stuck with me even when I was a kid: “Homer, you’re not allowed to have hurt feelings right now! There’s a little girl upstairs who needs you; her confidence in her father is shaken and no little girl can be happy unless she has faith in her daddy!”
