True,my five lined skinks are fun and simple,I’m actually going to be putting a pothos plant in their terrarium in the spring. Their substrate is a mix of natural soil eco earth and wood chips,I have two,a female and juvenile, hopefully a male, and they can be kept together. I do want to update their tank for a bigger one,but I don’t have room currently. I feed them a mixed diet of crickets, worms, grubs, centipedes, heads crushed of course, locusts, even small minnows.

Schnider's skinks are my absolute favorite lizard. I did a mini project with them in college, as my professor kept a handful of them. Keep in mind, these are all wild caught animals, and by the end of the semester they would literally est out of our hands. The only problem is that they're IMPOSSIBLE to find captive bred, even in the states. Unfortunately I cannot really condone purchasing a WC animal, or encourage others to do the same. I would love to try and breed these guys someday, as they are FANTASTIC animals and an absolute joy to keep.

I was never a reptile person but around a year ago I took in a schneider's skink and I was surprised by how awesome he is! he used to be a class pet so he's used to handling and he's so curious about everything. he's around 21, which is past the end of their lifespan, but he's still so energetic and loves to climb. I feed him mealworms by hand and he's never tried to bite me - he's just a chill little guy. didn't know they're all wild-caught, which is a shame because his species deserves so much love.

Schneider's skink video worth it on facial expressions alone. You trying not to lose it is priceless. They are a "size for everyone" skink. 18" enclosure height = from shoulder to the top of the human head. I just can't take you seriously with a skink perched artfully on your noggin. Climbing structure......mannequin head covered in moss. A chia pet would be ideal! So much fun!

Thanks so much for making this video. I've had my Schneider skink for about 2 years now and I'm glad to see what other people keep their skinks at. I have a higher humidity in my enclosure, mostly because I live in Georgia but I keep my skink at about the same temps. I keep mine in an exo Terra 36 by 18 by 12 like you. One thing I did a while back was add a hide under the substrate on the cool side so that I can see my skink under the substrate. Well unintentionally, he always sheds in it. It keeps from having skin flakes go all over the enclosure which is nice too.

Hey Wickens! I've been watching your videos for months now and I've always wanted a reptile. Though I was always too young to take proper care of it but now that I'm 22, I might give it a shot. The thing is, it's a big commitment, given that these creatures can live well up to 20 years and beyond. I've been doing tons of research on Blue Tongue Skinks (which I've hopelessly fallen in love with) through your videos and caresheets, forums and countless other videos. Thing is, I'm a full time university student so a reptile would spend 2 days on its own every week. I'm just not quite sure if that's responsible...

I find it amazing that some of the most personable reptiles tend to be skinks. And if yours are wild caught, that's amazing. They kind of remind me of Emerald Tree Skinks that I learned about from Clint's Reptiles. Those things, despite being wild caught, just seek out human interaction. Schneider's Skinks give me the same vibe. And don't feel too bad, my Halmahera loves to climb up my shirt and onto my neck. XD I still need to get her a basking rock to possibly help file down those claws of hers, cause those hurt when she does reach my neck lol.
