This WIEAD made me weirdly nostalgic for the beginning of COVID when I was a new subscriber binging your vids. It feels like things were simpler then. 😂😫😭 You’ve been my pal for the last 2-3 years and I have loved watching every single one. Lysm.

I'm not usually a big fan of What I Eat In a Day videos but I enjoy yours, the music and editing make it fun to watch, and you put together interesting meals that are different from the kinds of things I would typically make myself. Also hell yeah for your friend working with Big Bud Press, that's awesome!

What’s really important for muscle building and for the body in general is to have something with a lil bit of everything! Like a carb/complex carb, some protein, a lil bit of fat, etc… I had a sports medicine guy tell me this when I was doing a long run of a show and my body was practically falling apart. Best thing I did was eat well-balanced snacks/meals between shows and HYDRATE. Like body armor/liquid IV/coconut water/etc. - something to help replace all the water you lost through sweat before you’re dehydrated

The 30 min protein thing has been debunked! Researchers initially thought that it was necessary & its def a good target to aim for (protein after workouts helps your muscles recover better), but newer studies have found that for muscle growth, you're pretty much goo as long as you're hitting your daily protein target ☺️ The strict windows are more for elite athletes who are trying to optimize performance and training to the nth degree

I can relate to a lot of what you were saying! I was a vegan for 3 years and felt very passionate about it all. Until about 2 years in and I realized I was gluten intolerant and that changed a lot and honestly just became way too restrictive and expensive (as i was in uni and didn't have to time to dedicate to more wholefoods vegan or plantbased style cooking like I do now). I honestly started to get anxiety about food bc of how restrictive it felt. Even at vegan resturants there was still a lot of things i couldn't eat. I too am "pescatarian" although I try to remind myself I don't need a full label. I honestly just enjoy eating lots of colorful things that give me life, things that are local, and things that make me excited about nourishing myself the best way I can :) I think veganism is great and noble but it's not a cure all for the world, espcially if we want to talk about food packaging, carbon footprint, workers rights, accesibility, individual health needs, necessary (expensive) supplements etc etc. And I really really dislike the way some vegans can be so hateful and intolerant esp towards ex vegans. Feels like an ego trip tbh but that's just my humble opinion

I did the same dietary changes as you also for medical reasons. It's so annoying because I have so much guilt and then when I feel my body changing I am like ugh should I just go back to being vegan which is not a healthy mindset. I hope we find balance and that the guilt around foods leaves soon just because I held a label for so long. I can only imagine the pressure with having an online audience. Best of luck!

The 30min is not true. Consume it with up to 4 hours after but as long as you hit your daily protein goal of about 1.8-2.5g/kg you’ll be fine! I workout regularly and eat about 130-160g of protein (plant based). PRE SLEEP PROTEIN ingestion is very beneficial. You consume 40g (shake) before sleep and that aids muscle protein synthesis overnight

I am currently 9 months pregnant and at 29 weeks got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Ive been vegetarian for close to 8 years but had to include more meat into my diet because 1. Get more protein in and 2. Because beans and other plant based proteins are very high in carbs which turn in to sugar. The amount of servings of protein I need for brekky, lunch and dinner are 2-3 servings and that amount in beans was too high for me to be blue to eat. It’s hard not to feel guilty at but we have to do what’s best for our bodies and in my case for the little human I’m growing. Now it’s not impossible to be vegetarian and have gestational diabetes but it was very stressful trying to figure out with my dietician/OB how to make it work. Sending all the love your way xoxo

I was vegetarian for 4 years mostly plant based and it literally ruined my stomach for the longest time not only that but it messed up with my mental health. Then after I got pregnant my body was craving meat so I caved in to eating chicken and I’ve been happy and healthy ever since . You have to listen to your body and never let anyone dictate on what you should eat cause only you know what you need ❤

I'm so happy you stood up for your own health and experimented/allowed yourself to make changes when you noticed it wasn't working anymore. The issue with diet nowadays is that because we're no longer hunter-gatherers, we need to acknowledge ethics and how food is produced when we purchase. And it makes me bang my head to know how we messed the earth. But in my opinion you can't just follow a diet based on ideology if you want to be healthy. I was vegetarian, gagged on animal products because I felt so strongly for them. But then I had to realise I was getting sicker. Some plant based eaters do believe animal products are unhealthy but I can't agree with that. And then there's all the thoughts about the environmental impact. I did more research and réalised a big part of the narrative was missing. It's not black and white and meat production is not always bad, in fact it's very beneficial when done correctly. Of course the majority is bad and not anyone can support local regenerative farmers. It's hard but it we started to look into those options instead of demonizing farming, maybe the whole food production system could be revised, the soil made healthy again, and thus the population. For anyone reading this comment and thinking about adding animal products but your heart tells you it's bad, I recommend the yt channel and insta strong.sistas. They are new generation farmers and highly concerned with the planet. They showed me how you can be a meat eater and still be a responsible eater. For those who prefer to stay plant based, I wish you great health ♥️

I’m in the same boat with avoiding dietary restrictions in general. I tend to get into some unhealthy eating habits (unhealthy mentally and physically) when I’m being restrictive. I think it’s mostly because it prevents me from listening to my body. I think acknowledging your cravings and recognizing what your body needs at that moment is so important.

Hi Jenny! I totally resonate with your move away from being vegan. I too was vegan for many years and in about the past year and a half have reintroduced fish and products with dairy and eggs in them (pastries, etc). I have found it weird to move away from having such a rigid idea of what you can and can't eat and have felt that I need to justify it to everyone, although I know it's not true. I think I always will eat mostly plant-based but it feels refreshing to find a balance. I also have noticed it takes a lot of stress off me when say traveling or eating out with non-vegan friends because I can eat something vegetarian or not have to resort to the classic fries and a salad move or even beg my friends/family to choose somewhere else to go. Glad you are doing what is right for you mentally and phsyically. It's good to know I'm not the only one. Props to you!! xx

Oof yeah this didn’t feel good to watch as a vegan, but only because of what I knew I’d find in the comments. I hope that we can acknowledge that veganism is abundant and healthy while also having compassion for sweet Jenny! At the end if the day longevity is what’s most important, imperfection is okay. What’s not okay is suing this video as an opportunity to dunk on veganism or on Jenny. What we really should be talking about is how cute Jenny’s saffron matching set is…

Jenny! As someone who is going through something very similar with food, I am just sending so much support to you. It is a really brave thing to put yourself first in life and I’m just so glad to see you, who I view as a role model in ways, are doing just that. What many people seem to forget is that food can be very emotional and affects everyone in different ways. For those who are lacking compassion or support for Jenny (in a decision that she doesn’t even have to share) I would encourage reading nutrition books that aren’t specifically related to vegan topics to expand your thinking. I once had the same thought process as you all who are “disappointed” - I unfortunately suffered from years of ED because of the pressure of being “morally right” and aiming for “perfectionism” in veganism. I had to learn how to be truly compassionate through this. I echo the comments that say being vegan isn’t the only right way to be a good moral human. What ever you eat - I hope it fully supports you physically and emotionally! Love the video Jenny!!

Being vegan is not a "diet" or "food choice". I'm sure you knew this but telling this right now eases your conscience but it's not acceptable. Being vegan is a lifestyle, not hurting animals every step you take is a philosophy of life. So if you are not going to accept these just say plant based. You don't need any animal products to feel better and you knowingly doing this is just so cruel and upsetting. Someone's life can not be an experiment you try and see if it's gonna feel better or not. Pretty sure you knew all these that was why I followed you but I think you need to be reminded.

It is honestly so frustrating to see another large influencer stray away from veganism. Veganism is not just “a choice” it’s a moral obligation. It seems like it just becomes inconvenient for a lot of people and that’s why they stray away but veganism is a lifestyle not just a diet. I am really disappointed to see this.
@avrydekazan6016
@avrydekazan6016 2 жыл бұрын
@Rachel Hayden I understand it's frustrating but at the same time all these people that switched had to honour their needs. If their health is declining, it's not a choice it's a necessity. You may believe it's unhealthy but there are also plenty of sources that seem to prove animal products are optimal. I don't believe veganism is a moral obligation. Being eco conscious is but to me, veganism is not the glowing only answer. A lifestyle is based on ideology, not biology.
@rachelhayden148
@rachelhayden148 2 жыл бұрын
Can you talk more about why you don’t think veganism is a moral obligation?
@avrydekazan6016
@avrydekazan6016 2 жыл бұрын
@@rachelhayden148 well first I think talking about morality is tricky because it's a social construct. And not everyone has access to the same thing when they decide to buy food. It's also hard to mention morality because people have so many diverse opinions and what seems obvious or like the 'truth' to one won't be to the other. I don't believe morality can be objective, but I think that reducing suffering as much as possible and making choices that will secure the future of the planet should be a good starting point to agree on. However, because I belive that eating animal products is needed for health, I can't agree that veganism is a moral obligation (I base that belief on studies. I know veganism has also been studied and concluded that it's perfectly healthy but there's always going to be conflicting information). I'm sorry animals need to die, but I feel much better after eating them. So when I source my food I make sure I know how the animals were treated. That's really hard to do but I'm lucky to live on an organic farm. There is still suffering and when I need to handle cattle I do feel bad. But we take care of them as best and as minimaly as we can. There is also the argument of the environment, but there are ways, such as regenerative farming, which do not cause harm. We still need to produce food on a large scale. We can't be hunter gatherers anymore. Our food system will always be flawed because of how many we are on the planet. But we can try to reduce our impact with 'good farming practices' and by raising animals with care. Letting them roam, keeping their babies with them, etc. We do use animals for our benefit, it's a type of slavery, but imo it's needed. So that's why I belive being eco minded is more of a moral obligation. Thanks for asking. Maybe you want to tell me why you think the contrary? ☺️
@rachelhayden148
@rachelhayden148 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thought out response- I think I might have to reevaluate my diet choices because you really do make some great arguments. At the end of the day our worth and health are really just more important than the animals.

I used to be vegan but developed a chronic illness which drastically reduces the kinds of foods I can eat. If I stayed vegan I would have gotten way more sick and literally starved. I'm still largely vegetarian but people have to make decisions that work best for their bodies 🤷‍♀️ if your body allows you to be vegan, that's great
@oliviaiarossi2607
@oliviaiarossi2607 2 жыл бұрын
This is super disappointing. You have to understand veganism isn't a diet it's a lifestyle so obviously you were never vegan in the first place. The egg industry is cruel and so is the fishing and dairy industry. They are not food they are animals. This is so confusing to me. If you know veganism is great for animals why are you consuming them?
@avrydekazan6016
@avrydekazan6016 2 жыл бұрын
@Olivia larossi some people are not ready to sacrifice their health, or biological needs, for the sake of ideology. I'm all for animal welfare but not everyone believes you can thrive without animal products. There are many sources that seem to suggest it's very healthy and necessary. I tried to be plant based in the past but had to réalise I missing a lot of the narrative. I wish we could just be hunters and farming didn't exist though. Go back to a simpler foraging life.

I completely agree with you. It has been proven time and again that we do not need animal products to thrive or be healthy!!
@oliviaek2659
@oliviaek2659 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s more nuanced than what you make it out to be. Yes, the egg, dairy and fish industries are cruel. however, if we for whatever reason feel like we can’t be vegan at that given moment, we can still do our best to eat for example eggs from a local farmer whom we know treat their animals better than the industries. Unfortunately, we can’t put others (be it animals or other people) over ourselves and our health. For myself, I’ve always strived to eat more plant-based and I only use vegan and cruelty free beauty products etc. but maintaining a fully plant-based diet would not work for my mental health as someone who because of illness already have to control what/how I eat. I think it’s great that it works for you though! But I don’t think veganism can be the only way forward, even if we should always strive for everyone to implement more vegan options in their lives.

I think I’ve been vegan for as long as you have and I’m sure we started our journey around the same time. I’ve been in the same boat as you, changing my diet…I keep up a plant based diet for most of the time, but I too have been on the verge of being pescatarian and it’s been super refreshing to say the least tbh. I used to restrict myself from eating non-vegan dishes, which pushed me further into backing away from that lifestyle. Like a teenage rebellious kid. Kudos to all of my favorite plant-based/vegan youtubers who I followed religiously!! But now it’s so great to feel validated in my new choice of diet, esp after watching this vid. Thanks Jenny 💗🌟🌱
