To do this AND Sibelius in one night is simply insane. Who cares if she messed up at the very end of basically the hardest violin concerto that is still played to date. There's a reason why she won even with her glaring mistakes.

+Matthew Chow Nobody performs Wieniawski live. It is too exhausting. And all of the recordings available are not played through live. Her fingers must've been giving out at the end. This is an impressive performance. Clear to see why she won.

Sure... it's been played live before. He probably played it at around the time of his Wieniawski studio recording when he was in top form. Try finding a program these days. You'll be hard pressed to find a violinist who keeps it in his repertoire for play on short notice. Maybe you'll see it played in Poland. It doesn't reach the technical heights of Britten or Schoenberg, but it is absolutely exhausting. Wieniawski is on par with Paganini 1, but longer...

Ok..my 10 cents as a violinist and conductor.....this is indeed one of the most demanding works to handle in a live performance....and I haven't heard another one live that was significantly better than Ms. Yoon's performnce here. I commend her for having the guts....for her genuine musicianship, tone, expression, and formidable technique. She was deserving of the award.

Im watching this video for maybe the 5th time tonite. The more I realize the tremendous work she has done so far, i.e. the Sibelius, it just seems superhuman to be able to pull off the Wieniawski no. 1.....a composition studiously avoided in live performance by many professionals. Im looking forward to seeing more of her current performances on YT.

I have such boundless admiration for her, the fact that her performance wasn't "perfect" makes it better to me, it shows how hard the concerto is, how much she pushed herself, and how much confidence she had. If she did Wieniawki 2 perfectly, I'd wonder whether she could do a harder concerto. With this - there is no wondering, she did the best she could do.

Soyoung Yoon plays so rich and heart warming sound. Her Wieniawski concerto no. 1 is one of the best rank among the all violinists.

@MsVerlinden
@MsVerlinden 10 жыл бұрын
