Wasted typing. Everyone wants traditional gender roles they just don't want to admit it. People have problem with this because they don't want to accept a true reversal of the responsibilities. This guy's wife probably buys groceries because in order for him to buy the groceries HE has to have the checkbook, and she probably balks at that. Women don't break bread with men like men break bread with women. Men will work make all the money away let their wives manage all of it without really knowing what she is doing; women don't do that. Women control the purse strings. She's not going to let them go because she had convinced her husband to be a house-husband.

So, let's change the genders and the husband is buying a bunch of stupid stuff with the wife at home complaining. Does she have no right to complain? @vincentrich - Banned But Not Forgotten I make the money but my wife thinks she should have total control of all the money.
@random-nz7dy3 жыл бұрын
@@Fukkensaved there is definitely a double standard. But I think it's also okay to acknowledge that there are just certain things that have always seemed to be more natural since the dawn of time. Men are the hunter gatherers typically. I'm all for doing away with double standards but, I'm also not going to pretend like there's not a natural common path that men provide as "hunter gatherers." And it's definitely against the grain for a husband not to be a financial provider. And look I know couples where the wife works in the husband doesn't and it's okay. But it's definitely against what's typical, and anything that occurs that's not typical is going to beg more questions. I don't necessarily have a problem with that concept. I do think double standards are wrong, but if you choose to be a stay-at-home dad then you have to understand that you're going against a lot of deep rooted norms and people will have question marks. And you gotta deal with that.

There's definitely value in agreeing on a budget. I'm looking forward to being under the same roof as my fiancé and getting married. He is fiscally responsible, but despite earning more than me he is inclined to commit to car, furntiure payments etc. whereas my last two cars I paid cash for and I'll pick up good household items second hand and upcycle them if I need something. I don't have a TV (don't want one) thus no monthly bill for that. My mortgage is almost paid off because I didn't let life hurdles distract me from my goal, whereas his still has a way to go because he had to start over and his payments are almost 1/3 higher. The upshot is I earn less but have more free cash. Watching this makes me realize we really do need to agree on these things in advance.

I am shocked at some of the comments being made about 'she makes the money,she can buy what she wants'. This is so archaic!!! Granted it is usually 'he makes the money he can buy what he wants' but either way it doesn't work. The money is the households money. The couple is a team, it's their money. They have to work TOGETHER, make an agreed upon plan. Yes, Dave's comments about making a budget is good, but I felt like he missed getting some details, like are they debt free, etc. But to say one person can buy what they want because they have the job, or make the most money is caveman mentality. I am not saying that this guys is right in his thinking I am just commenting on some of the ideas.

This really stood out to me when I went places with a friend who behaves very differently. “Oh, this is neat.” $ on handmade soap in expensive store. “Oh, I like these.” $ on fashion bracelets at resort gift shop. Best advice for them is to carry a pre budgeted amount in cash to the grocery store with no cards in your wallet. Keep a running tally of what's in the cart. When you come across stupid junk you are less likely to buy it because you have to cut down on food and essentials to do it. I even do an online shopping cart and carry a copy in the store, that way I know exactly what I'm spending before I go into the store a lot of the time. I do budget $20 for wiggle room and impulse items, to keep sane if I see some cookies or something I haven't had in a long time.
