@@lindaleelaw5277 when I wanted to get married in the church they wanted 1500 bucks to get married in the church, as well as to pay for the pre-cana classes- so right off the bat a couple of economic books from Thomas Sowell would be CHEAPER (*under 300 bucks) and you can save the 1200 bucks - the Catholic Church has enough money - they are the 2nd largest landowners in the world and they pay not taxes... nope you can also get cheaper consultations with Fianancial advisors... they are more educated in the field...

Ummm if he is the house husband why is she the one buying the groceries? Seems to me like the one cooking would make the list and do the shopping? At least that's how it works in my house. Then she doesn't have a reason to be at the store as much...

Stephanie Large I agree. I'm the one who does most of the cooking (approximately 85% cause we have eat out nights and what we like to call get it yourself nights where we use up leftovers etc) in my house so therefore my parents let me do the grocery list and shop so long as I stay within a certain amount.

Wasted typing. Everyone wants traditional gender roles they just don't want to admit it. People have problem with this because they don't want to accept a true reversal of the responsibilities. This guy's wife probably buys groceries because in order for him to buy the groceries HE has to have the checkbook, and she probably balks at that. Women don't break bread with men like men break bread with women. Men will work make all the money away let their wives manage all of it without really knowing what she is doing; women don't do that. Women control the purse strings. She's not going to let them go because she had convinced her husband to be a house-husband.

So, let's change the genders and the husband is buying a bunch of stupid stuff with the wife at home complaining. Does she have no right to complain? I'm just posing the question because maybe you're consistent in your world view, but there are a lot of stupid double standards out there between the genders.

@vincentrich - Banned But Not Forgotten I make the money but my wife thinks she should have total control of all the money.
@random-nz7dy
@random-nz7dy 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fukkensaved there is definitely a double standard. But I think it's also okay to acknowledge that there are just certain things that have always seemed to be more natural since the dawn of time. Men are the hunter gatherers typically. I'm all for doing away with double standards but, I'm also not going to pretend like there's not a natural common path that men provide as "hunter gatherers." And it's definitely against the grain for a husband not to be a financial provider. And look I know couples where the wife works in the husband doesn't and it's okay. But it's definitely against what's typical, and anything that occurs that's not typical is going to beg more questions. I don't necessarily have a problem with that concept. I do think double standards are wrong, but if you choose to be a stay-at-home dad then you have to understand that you're going against a lot of deep rooted norms and people will have question marks. And you gotta deal with that.

There's definitely value in agreeing on a budget. I'm looking forward to being under the same roof as my fiancé and getting married. He is fiscally responsible, but despite earning more than me he is inclined to commit to car, furntiure payments etc. whereas my last two cars I paid cash for and I'll pick up good household items second hand and upcycle them if I need something. I don't have a TV (don't want one) thus no monthly bill for that. My mortgage is almost paid off because I didn't let life hurdles distract me from my goal, whereas his still has a way to go because he had to start over and his payments are almost 1/3 higher. The upshot is I earn less but have more free cash. Watching this makes me realize we really do need to agree on these things in advance.

I am shocked at some of the comments being made about 'she makes the money,she can buy what she wants'. This is so archaic!!! Granted it is usually 'he makes the money he can buy what he wants' but either way it doesn't work. The money is the households money. The couple is a team, it's their money. They have to work TOGETHER, make an agreed upon plan. Yes, Dave's comments about making a budget is good, but I felt like he missed getting some details, like are they debt free, etc. But to say one person can buy what they want because they have the job, or make the most money is caveman mentality. I am not saying that this guys is right in his thinking I am just commenting on some of the ideas.

It’s easy. I don’t browse stores, malls, or hotel gift shops looking for doodads to buy. I buy only what I need, and try to get high quality for the best price. I try to keep my things like new so I don’t have to spend money replacing them. This really stood out to me when I went places with a friend who behaves very differently. “Oh, this is neat.” $ on handmade soap in expensive store. “Oh, I like these.” $ on fashion bracelets at resort gift shop. Expensive enough to go to the resort, no need to waste money on tchotchkes. She was divorced, receiving spousal and child support, and declared bankruptcy after commenting that I don’t buy anything.

Best advice for them is to carry a pre budgeted amount in cash to the grocery store with no cards in your wallet. Keep a running tally of what's in the cart. When you come across stupid junk you are less likely to buy it because you have to cut down on food and essentials to do it. I even do an online shopping cart and carry a copy in the store, that way I know exactly what I'm spending before I go into the store a lot of the time. I do budget $20 for wiggle room and impulse items, to keep sane if I see some cookies or something I haven't had in a long time.

She may buy things that are not completely reasonable / not necessary for survival for 49 or 7 USD. Let's bet that his spending when he goes to auctions ! is MORE but in his view is reasonable while her spending is only for her or the kids and is "frivolous". I also wonder if he has any idea what groceries cost or that some of the little things she buys end up as gifts for family (I would also bet SHE arranges the gifts and cards if social norms require them as family to give them). And if they are doing well (with 2 homes) they do not have to live like misers. 50 or 60 USD fun money for the kids and herself is not going to kill them. (if a family is in deep financial trouble they can't spend on figurines, the kids are lucky if they get one set at Christmas). I wonder WHO opts for the funiture, the cars, the home mortgage (the things that really cost money).

This poor schmuck is “a day late and a dollar short” and the writing is on the wall with this soon to be failed marriage. In the end, the only winner will be her when she bankrupts him for alimony and child support.

What s interesting , is that on my basic income. SSDI, under $1000 per month, you learn to restrict your purchases. And that discipline carried over when I was gifted with $5000. The things I would have bought before, just aren't a need or want.

Amanda Johnston: It is very odd and unnatural! The situation reeks of 3rd wave feminism. I will give you that maybe 10% of women don't want to be at home loving on their kids, caring for their spouse and home, otherwise, whether women want to admit or not, they ultimately desire to be stay at home mothers and wifes. That's why she buys the kids all the toys, she feels guilty, for being an absent mother and out of the home so much. He needs grow a pair and get a job!

I tried it for 8 months, ended up getting a night job where I could still watch my son during the day, us guys aren't wired to work this way, we need to be out working and conversing with people, not stuck at home.

When you've got 6 kids and it's cheaper to have someone stay home then the fiscal thing to do for the family is to let the parent with the higher salary and potential to earn more work. Check your pride buddy. And looking after 6 kids is a hassle. Nothing to laugh at.

@@ariefraiser140 No make less money, take 2 part time jobs. Better to live cheap than that mom can't be w her kids. I have my kids 3,5 days and they get loads of toys to make up for it. I rather not eat myself than not give em that toy.
