British cycling need to create a “park run” but for bikes. Local to everyone, free, weekly, ride any bike, timed etc.

Yes, this no-brainer was suggested within BC at the start of the HSBC sponsorship, but nothing came of it.

Logistically impossible in the UK as many towns barely have space for a parkrun let alone what would be needed to do it on bikes, making it safe for people of all abilities. It would be an insurance nightmare as well. Not saying that I don’t like the idea but I can well see why it hasn’t happened

Won a place on the LeBlanq Ibiza trip last month. Ended up on a night out with Geraint Thomas and 3 lads I met on the trip after the hotel bar called last orders. Stumbled back to the hotel at 5am before getting up at 9am for a 100km ride. One of the best nights out of my life, grateful to be a part of G's blowout! Absolutely surreal experience

Sounds like you had the first generation of BC headphones. The later ones are a lot better quality in terms of transfer to the bone, they work really well and others can't hear them at all. It's a horses for courses thing. They are excellent for listening to spoken words, and are ok for music. They are great for people with some types of damage to their ears as it can by-pass the issue. I love mine for riding.

Francis makes a great point about “normal people’s version” of pro bikes at 19:40 . It’s essentially how tennis racquets are marketed. Murray endorses Head’s Radical line, but uses something else that’s painted as the current Radical that’s in the shops. His actual version is not suitable for the average player, but the one sold to the public is a tamer racquet. Same could go for bike geometry.

You guys are 💯 % correct on that brands need to make something to lure new clients. Once they are hooked they will come back. Giant makes the Contend 2. It’s not $500 but it’s pretty close at about $800. My 1st bike was a 2019 Giant Anyroad 2 gravel bike for $850. I loved that thing and I knew I was hooked and turned around and bought the 2021 Giant Propel Adv Pro 1 for $4,700. Even stayed brand loyal.

Great show! Shokz headphones are definitely UNDER-rated, however. I've been using them for a few years to listen to music or audiobooks while I'm out cycling. I can still hear traffic, any sort of drivetrain issues (i.e. chain rub), or hear my Varia beeping. The sound quality of the latest ones is excellent; there's not much bass because of how they work, but mids and highs are very good. I'd argue that it's the only safe way to listen to audio while cycling... Also, they're fully waterproof so you can sweat all over them or even wear them in the shower after your ride. A+

British Cycling had £8 million a year from HSBC, but spent it all on running Crits and junior races that no one watches. You might argue this is grass roots at some level, but doesn't do anything to get people on bikes - road safety campaign might have been a better subject to focus on...

Bone conducting headphones - using them to listen to you now! They do work as described. If I stick my fingers in my ears, I can still hear you lot in my head... 😱 Main issue I have with them is you lose a lot of bass, so music doesn't sound great, and wind noise can drown out what you're listening to making them a bit redundant when riding but fine for running. Other people hearing what you're listening to is about the same as other in ear headphones...

Sadly George Lazenby only made the one Bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service which is not as bad as people make out. You have to remember he was taking over from Sean Connery, also there was no theme song just an instrumental, and of all the Bond films it has far fewer gadgets for Bond to play with.

Lazenby made the best Bond of all ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ once the black sheep Bond picture now regarded as the Crown Jewel it cost £6 million dollars to make in 1969 it grossed 87 million Worldwide far from the failure it was claimed to be, through DVD sales and streaming now one of the most successful, and an incredible film at that a cut above all other Bond pictures the reason it was so good was it stayed true to the book in the hands of a great director Peter Hunt along with Diana Rigg and Lazenby who were perfectly cast.

Back in the day Burton snowboards brought out the Vapour, their most expensive board. Which had all the most high end tech and weight saving of the top boards but rode like the Air, the entry level board of the time. It was specifically designed for the more-money-than-talent individuals who could afford the best and wanted the bragging rights but went once a year and a pro level board would be no fun for them. It’s exactly what specialized should have done with the aethos, and why dura-ace should be made with lower gearing, they would sell a shitload.

Old adage for training: ‘If you don’t do the miles - you’ll never do the miles” so, apply the British Army’s 7Ps: ‘Prior Planning & Preparation Prevent Pathetically (Piss in Army-speak) Poor Performance.’ If you’re entering a 5/ 20/ 30/ 50/ 100/ 200 km/mile ride make sure you can do the distance - by doing that distance once, in the weeks before the event - allowing for recovery time before the actual event. Oh, if you need an alarm? Our Lab lets us know at 0645 every morning that she gets fed at 7 a.m. we call it ‘Polly-O’clock’ (Polly is our Lab). Also I am not sure about the weather up there but in Cambridge it is icy perhaps 3/4 weeks of the year. You can ride the rest of the time, just use mudguards and slightly wider tyres. I meant i cycle all year round, and when it is icy i only use my commuting bike with studded tyres.

@@JSC131love to hear that, thanks! That seems to be the consensus among people who own them. A very niche, overlooked brand, at least here in the US. I looked at the Optimum pretty seriously, but the wait was longer and that tire clearance was just too limiting for dual wheel set versatility. I didn’t like any of the Optimum+ frames either. Pretty excited to get this built up. As Francis and Jimmy mention… proper endurance geometry without any “frame tricks” is oddly hard to find. Look is the shit.

Great Podcast, thank you for that! One thing that disturb me is that Emily is not presented at the beginning of the show. probably a routine has lead to this? I love Emilys views!

Didn’t Emily said she does not want to, that it is their show and she wants to be the producer adding things if she’d like

On the Wiggins situation, he did a "Wiggins talk tour" over the last handful of months and tbh it was him doing a talk that he should be doing to a professional therapist, we all left a bit depressed, he's not in a good place....

George Lazenby only did one Bond film, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service “ which is a good film, but Lazenby quit, he had a 7 film contract because he didn’t think Bond had a cultural place in the hippy 60s. David Niven played Bond in the slightly silly Casino Royale.

You guys talking about -5 Celsius and here in Brazil last week was doing 45 degrees. But the principle remains. Why the f... am I going to ride in 45+ Celsius? That's no point...
