I can understand the discomfort with the image of police officers preparing to fire shotguns at children (hey, it was a different time!) but the replacement really makes the scene kind of ridiculous. You're supposed to see the guns being taken out as the music grows tense and ominous, the kid winces and shuts his eyes preparing for the worst, and this danger is what inspires ET to levitate the kids and take to the skies to escape safely. With walkie-talkies, the music becomes ominous for no reason, the kid winces at nothing in particular, and... well, I guess the flying still helps them escape, but it doesn't have the same meaning as before.

George never really liked Star Wars because it wasn't "his baby", he had to accept input from others, that's why he wants to destroy the original movies, so the only versions anyone now will ever know will be HIS versions! Without other peoples input George Lucas is nothing but a "B" movie hack, the "special editions" and prequels have proved that! The worst part of this is that George Lucas was one of the directors that spoke out against the colourisation of older movies in the 80's - famously calling it barbarism. He was against changing other movies but ironically became obsessed with changing his.
@Anthropomorphic4 жыл бұрын
The colorization controversy typically involved companies colorizing movies without the involvement -- or even against the express wishes -- of their original creators. The most charitable interpretation of Lucas' opposition would be that he was mainly against people messing with other people's works, while his alterations are restricted to his own works.

@mackmitchell944 жыл бұрын
George Lucas was against that because it was companies changing an artists work without their permission. Lucas haters on YT try to spin this by making him look like a hypocrite but that fails once you put a little research into it. George has no problem with an artist improving upon their work which is what he did with the special edition. I have the original cut of the original trilogy and I never watch it. Because last time I did, it didn’t age well. The effects while groundbreaking for the time don’t hold a candle to today and the effects used in later Star Wars films. George updated the picture to HD with the remasters as well as updating the effects to make these films work for today. He understood that Star Wars doesn’t belong to one generation, and that it in fact belongs to all generations. You think kids today would like the original cut of the original trilogy? Especially after watching the prequels with their amazing effects and action? No they wouldn’t and it wouldn’t work because they would wonder why the picture looked so shitty, and why the ships look funny when they’re flying, and why it looks so fake compared to the other ones.

You guys deserve to know what really caused all this. See, George Lucas actually died in 1981. In the desire to finish the trilogy, George's dead body was buried in Stephen King's pet cemetary. Unfortunately, as we all know now, when you bury someone in that cemetary, yes they come back, but they come back evil. Hence everything that follows. Boba Fett dying like one of the Three Stooges, Luke and Leia being brother an sister, the Empire being defeated by teddy bears,...makes perfect sense now right! The dumpster fire you're talking about now (the "special editions"), the prequels being made exclusively for children (not to mention all the inconsistencies and contradictions with the original story) it all makes perfect sense now that you know,... I think people back then must have been confused as the title crawl started on Empire in 1980, since it has always been saying "Episode V", and the title change of Star Wars came the year after with "Ep IV- ANH" re-release. The most unnecessary special edition change/addition was in Empire at the end when Luke is being rescued from Cloud City. In the original we got to see Darth Vader go towards a landing platform saying "bring my shuttle", then cut back to Luke and next time we saw Vader he was on his super star destroyer bridge. In special edition we get to see every step of the way for him to get there- which is extremely important for the plot of course ... This cutting up the flow of the scene- and the musical cue. Stooopid!

I think a few fans were a little put off that the Wolfman patron in the cantina scene was replaced with another CG alien.

Imagine being one of the people who saw the cut that isn't around anymore, and getting into arguments with people about how something happened, only to watch the movie now and find out technically you were wrong

Instead of Darth Vader shouting 'Noooooooo' it should of been ''MY BABY BOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYY'' (DBZ-Abridged reference)

The scene with Han talking with the CGI Jabba was actually a great change! When Han walks around Jabba it's clear that him stepping on his tail hurt Jabba but Han has zero reaction so it comes across as him not caring about Jabba's pain (which shows how much of an independent rogue he was). When the scene ends with Han saying "Jabba, you're a beautiful human being" it comes across as DRIPPING with sarcasm so if anyone watches this as their first ever Star Wars movie it makes a great introduction to the character of Han Solo.

I am starting to think that George Lucas made some of those changes just to give some of those star bucks to the cast of the movie.
@vstar71963 жыл бұрын
Lucas made those changes to test the CGI technology that would be used in the prequel films. Then he had them released to the theatres to secure the money to make those prequels. A total waste of money.

If a movie ever needed to be changed or fixed it should be the CGI of the original Jumanji. At least that would be understandable.
