Alice wrote this one mainly with his parents in mind. His dad was a pastor and at the time The Alice Cooper Group was internationally notorious for their look and the sexual sado macsichistic stage shows. Members or the elder Mr Furnier's congregation began to openly complain and some even left the church as well. The band wrote this song as a snub to those people but Alice's lyrics , as usual, are with his tongue firmly placed in his cheek.

It's about the media talking only about his stage persona, not the real Alice, the person off stage.

The story is that the band were always known as good kids until they made it big, and a Rolling Stone article portrayed them as decadent. When they came home to visit, people definitely acted different to them.

The musicianship of this band early in career was very top notched, and sometimes overlooked, buried at time in other band members genius and the antics of Alice Cooper himself.

The Alice Cooper Group was great. I lost interest when it became Alice Cooper solo after the Muscle Of Love album. Not the same .

I feel the same way about the lyrics. He was a nice guy. Then his friends started “reading the paper” and changed their minds about him. Not that he changed but that the friends changed.

I grew up in Toledo and between his appearances there and Detroit, I saw Alice Cooper once a month! A classmate went under the stage and stole the prop sword used in Dead Babies!

Always loved this song from when I was 8 years old and my neighbor played this album every day. Didn’t understand it totally until I divorced my husband of 14 years. He smeared my name telling people I did what he did only worse. When I found out he had told our 12 year old son it pushed it to a whole new evil level. Anyway a great therapeutic song for me.

Thanks for doing Alice. You never know where Alice is going. Next react to "Ballad of Dwight Fry" or "I Love The Dead". "Billion Dollar Babies" is good too. You need to do the live versions to see the song acted out. Worth it for sure.

Humor. Much of Alice’s music is about humor. The laughs or consequences are always at his expense. His show are like adult Halloween. I think I have seen him 16 times. He would make a very convincing actor. His tour bands are always top notch. Timing is a big part of Alice’s music, schtick, and live shows and his band is always right on time. Through the decades he has managed to sound more like his albums than many other artists have.

The original Alice Cooper group was one of the best of the 70s and were perfect for Alice and all those great songs. Try The Ballad of Dwight Fry next, another awesome banger from this legendary band. Rock On & Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

As for a live performance nothing beats a Alice Cooper show for theatrics, it's like going to a super crazy play.

I gotta say that though Alice’s hits are hits for a reason, but Alice’s deep cuts are way better. You should react to some of his live performances. Like find a video of Ballad of Dwight Fry/Killer/ I love the Dead. He does a medley and you see the live theatrics and see the amazing talent of his band and the great acting onstage. There’s no show like an Alice Cooper show. Alice never disappoints.

I got to meet him many years ago. Great guy. But back in the early 70’s his on stage persona freaked out many mainstream American. When Alice was doing these things in those days nobody before him had such a wild persona. He intentionally wanted that persons to be the ‘Bad Guy’. He was and is a movie freak and he said every good movie has a villain and in rock there were so many ‘good guys’ he said what was needed was the villain and thus the persona was born.

When Alice Cooper came out in the early 70s no other band was dressing up, or doing performance art. This was before Bowie & glam. Before Kiss and they were portrayed as evil & decadent

Alice Cooper is a Born-Again Christian, and his dad was a pastor. I don't think he was living as a Christian when he was a superstar Rock Icon in the 1970s, but he said he always believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. You wouldn't have known it back in those days as a younger man.

Then an empty bottle of whiskey arc' d in from the darkness... Hitting wee Alice in the head.....and damn he thru a tantrum then. Show was over......and worth every penny.
