REO Speedwagon really rocked in the 1970s, this was a big hit for them, but they really sort of "wimped out" with this song. As some said below, "Riding the Storm Out" was really great, but another really great song was "Golden Country." And for some incredible guitar playing, the late Gary Richrath REALLY rocked out on "Roll with the Changes" and the instrumental "The Flying Turkey Trot!" And "157 Riverside Avenue" was really great. In fact, if you can, please try and check out that song live, as well as "Riding the Storm Out." On the original recording of "Riding the Storm Out," Kevin Croner hadn't yet joined the band, and his vocals really added quite a lot. Their live album "You Get What You Play For" was really terrific!

Back when these came out (and boy am I dating myself) they described these type of songs as "power ballads". Oh, the bands name is also R.E.O. Speedwagon. The band was named after a 1934 fire truck - have no idea what the story is behind that, but that's the name anyway.

REO was a juggernaut in the 70's! Almost seemed like they were at every concert I went to. But, my favorite was Gary on lead guitar and they weren't the same after. Just me. I love these songs. You should react to "Riding The Storm Out". Especially good live. I used to shun any music that wasn't loud and rocking. My biggest regret. Another excellent reaction!

I've see R.E.O. Speedwagon several times, they got their big break from playing at the Imperial lounge here in St . Louis, MO where I'm from and where a couple of the members of from, and so we got to see R.E.O every tour either as an opening act or headliner. 157 Riverside is cool song , Riding the Storm Out, and, Time For Me To Fly and many more. Looking some more Kenny Wayne Shepherd Thanks. PEACE

So R-E-O Speedwagon started in the late 60's as a ROCK band. This is one of their pop hits after they sold out and went top 40. If you want to hear real rock by them start with: Golden Country, Sophisticated Lady, 157 Riverside Ave, Like Yo Do, Flash Tan Queen, Let Me Ride and Music Man... Thanks brother

One of those early rock ballads that executes a good guitar solo well. Seems like all of the hair metal groups of the 80's tried to emulate the guitar solo in the ballads like REO did so well in this song. Time stamp 3:08.

Others have commented on the band name being initials .... very similar issue as the band ELO for Electric Light Orchestra. . REO Speedwagon has sold more than 40 million records and has charted 13 Top 40 hits. They were one of the more successful bands in the 70s and they continue to tour to this day.

I remember wining their album Hi Infidelity in the summer of 1981 from a radio station. My siblings and I listening to the album over and over that summer. You still need to listen to: Triump - Magic Power Two other early 80's rock/pop bands that you still need to listen to: Night Ranger - Sister Christian Lover Boy - Living for the Weekend

R. E. O. ...REO Speedwagon is one of the kings of the Power Ballad. You should react to one of their big rock hits, "Ridin' the Storm Out." I prefer the album version, but when Kevin Cronin became lead singer, their live version went straight to #1. It's an amazing song. The live version is better, but I have a soft spot for the OG version. Either one would be awesome.

As the comments grow you'll hear so many songs by REO that are better, much better, in my opinion. This was one of their power ballads that was a hit, but Keep on Lovin You, Roll with the Changes, Golden Country, Riden the Storm Out, Time for me to Fly, 157 Riverside Ave, Flyin Turkey Trot...

If you are going to listen to these guys, then you have to listen to their early stuff and not this elevator music. Try ANYTHING from their early stuff from the album with the front of the R E O truck. 157 Riverside Avenue, Dead At Last, Gypsy Woman’s Passion. Or anything else from that album is far better than this.
