I'm kind of blown away that the bear seemed to understand how the float surface worked. I understand why dogs do because they watch their owners do it. But how'd the bear learn?
@Dixie11011 сағат бұрын
Bears are incredibly intelligent, more so than dogs. They also learn by observation & exploration. No doubt they've observed this family from the forest line, not far from the family using their pool. They just didn't know they were being observed I bet.

They often climb on logs floating in the water in the wild. They’re super intelligent. I’m thrilled you’re letting them enjoy your pool. You’ll have the winter to play in the pool just heat it up. Most bears hibernate in the winter.

Visitors to the National Forest have dropped their binoculars when they saw a bear. The bears picked the binoculars up and ever since then use them in the forest to point down to houses at the edge of the forest and watch humans.

We live right next to the Smoky Mtns national park, and with us it's the black bears, and they do the exact same thing. They love to swim in our pool during the evening or early morning, for ~30 minutes, and they would be on their way. The only real issue is at first they would destroy anything made of fabric, so we started locking all that up in the pool house when we weren't out there, but I do leave some cheap volleyballs and beach balls for them to play with. Oh, and we do get a lot of fur in the pool screens and filters, so those are cleaned out more often, which is no big deal.

Bears are wonderful animals, and they kind of stand apart as there is no other "nearby" animal group quite like them either in body plan or in behavior and intelligence. When I see this video, I am of course delighted, but I'm also a bit apprehensive, as all species of bear can be unpredictable and _extremely_ dangerous. Caution and respect are the order of the day.

We live down on a south Alabama river surrounded by woods and swamps .We have had a mama and cubs here for nearly 20 years though probably not the same Mama Bear .They really like our 600 gallon stock tank down in the woods we collect rainwater and raise fishing minnows in .Deer quite enjoy it also since we do have alligators here so it is far safer for them to drink from .I have several tree limbs inside and over the top for smaller creatures to escape like lizards ,birds and small mammals to drink out of ,homemade steps and a small deck also help out .With it being rainwater never have a chlorine issue and the bears really like lying in front of the submerged waterfall pump .The advantages of rainwater is it provides a home for dragonflies ,Swamp Iris keeps the water crystal clear and even my honeybees take advantage of it .I placed an old plastic pot bottom filled with river rocks for them and butterflies on the deck .Sometimes I even add a submerged mister near the deck so birds can take a shower .Amazing what a natural above ground pond can do for native wildlife .Sure I get the occasional Cottonmouth or Water Snake in it but all native snake species are welcome here also .Best 300.00 I ever spent in my wildlife habitats here .I am a federally licensed wildlife rescuer and it gives injured water creatures like turtles a safe recovery area with a natural food source with the minnows ,crawdads and insects instead of a cage being a more natural environment for them .If I want to go swimming I have a perfectly good river in front of my home with rapids and waterfalls .

How foolish you are...Bears are dangerous ... allowing bears to roam freely in your space only leads to tragedy for both human and bears... think of the consequences... I live in Eastern Wa. and have seen what a bear can do when hungry, startled or just plain nasty... don't be complacent waiting for an accident to happen...

Thank you so much for this video. Years ago living rural the animals, given reasonable distance, were not a problem. That said, garbage and food stuffs were well kept in the garage/storeroom. The possums were fantastic in the garden area feasting on fallen and non-edible for the table, the garden sanitation department. Did various animals sup from the garden? Yes, indeed. I have the option of the grocery store, the veggies I did grow were far from fabulous. Always distance, avoid being a threat--it goes both ways.

2 months ago we moved from Monterey County, California, which doesn't have bears... to Mendocino County, which does have bears. So far I've seen 5 bears: a lone one & a mom & her 3 cubs. The cubs were v small & adorable. She must have given birth a few weeks prior. We also have at least 1 bear that comes around at night trying to get into our trash. The metal shed that was already on the property has a lot of bear damage from being "explored" through the yrs.

What a BLESSING to have these beautiful creatures visit! I live near 2 rivers in the middle of a large city on the Canadian prairies and I get excited when I see foxes, raccoons, deer, groundhogs and skunks in my yard (although a little trepidatious about the skunks!). I grew up on a farm about 7 miles from a provincial park and one day when I was home alone, a teenage black bear was sitting on our lawn.

I noticed the lack of safety fence for your pool - a requirement in some countries especially for families with children. Doubt it's enough to keep the bears out of your property. Electric fence might work. It's enough to keep beasts in and predators off farms. Should be easily doable on top of an existing property fence.
