I'm only a few years younger than you, so like you, I like keeping track of those like Eva...However, I also hope to give her a little advice because of our "years of accumulated wisdom" perhaps we can give her "additional information" upon which to make her decisions, instead of coming off like...DO NOT DO THIS or THAT!!!! More like "Before you do this??? Please consider these additional factors." I don't want to discourage her ventures in the wild...but...the fact that ventured so far from her "base camp" that she could not make it back before the rain was really falling (Maybe even a downpour)!?!?!?! That's something that I would prefer her to take into consideration in her willingness to "adventure!!!!" There's a lot to be said for venturing...however...when it comes to "Common Sense?" Sometimes there has to be a little "caution" entered into the equation. I really hope this little adventure with approaching weather moving in has given her a life experience to assist her decisions.

We like to remind people to have a nice day, and like that lovely woman, to find joy. 🙏🏻 I wish more of the world would experience America this way, and not the Disney version created by marketers. Hi Eva, I'm a long time avid backpacker as well as camp ground camping when my wife was alive. I just want to say that because I had both knees replaced a few years back, Im not as mobile as I used to be and find it incredibly painful to get up and down from the ground like I could even a year ago. So I want to take to the woods like you are doing along with my 1 year old Border Collie puppy Jessi. I do have some advice because as part of their growing and learning there is a tendency to chew everything that sticks out and interests them. That includes wiring so keep usb wires away from Vilk and don't assume that you can leave something out for just a moment while you turn your back! I see he has been chipped, Jessi has a tag just like his! Good for you! If you get into a town that has a Petco, you can make a custom tag for your little man. I've had a lot of close up and personal bear encounters while backpacking and have only been hurt once, which didn't hurt then because the adrenaline was flowing! I survived obviously. After that I learned several things that would scare bears away without doing them any harm or even an after effect like bear spray. That item is a sonic noisemaker which is loud as thunder and pulsates, getting into the head of all mammals, you and Vilk included. A bear will want to get as far away as fast as possible. It is a small black box with a chain and a pin you pull out to start it. Since you are affected, you will understand what a bear can't and you can train Vilk to withstand the noise and stay by your side. You will want to put that pin back in as soon as possible.I think that since Vilk will grow and if a bear comes, he will try to save you in a fight he can't win although he might have saved you. But I think having a sonic noisemaker could scare the bear away before I taught one of my dogs how to climb a ladder and she surprised me by loving it. She once climbed onto the roof of the house and of course I had to help her get from roof to ladder rungs. Then she would go down on her own. Another dog, Bess, I taught to climb a tall ladder of a sliding board and she loved it! We would go to the park and I would unleash her and she would run to the slide and climb and slide over and over again, so Vilk may find that ladder a fun thing and before you know it, up into the tent and hopefully back down on her own! Your set in Odessa is a great example to learn from! I have to get a larger vehicle but the one I have is large enough to get started in. Thanks for putting up the link to Jackery so I can learn about solar generators, some of the places I really love to go to don't have power or water. That would charge my phone to keep in touch and tell my girls where I am, and give me light that does not come from my SUV battery, enable me to use my laptop, and to power a fan like you have and maybe a small air conditioner, and heater. There is really no way for me to know yet what all I could use the generator for because I have not yet started. When camping in a beautiful National Park campground it would keep my neighbors happy not hearing a powerful gas powered generator! And also if the dreaded collapse happens (Lord I pray not!) It will be of use. I've become so afraid of something like that I have collected a water purification system, ways to start fires besides matches or lighters, and food. It is I suppose an old outdoorsman's subconscious dream of having to live rough for a while hoping that it will all be restored so I can get back to comforts and living rough when I want to live rough. In closing I want to say that you remind me so much of my wife when we met and got engaged and married. Except she was Italian. She was strong like you and even more adventurous than me. She had never been camping when I took her the first time and she became a Camping Monster!! At first she only wanted to do which was to cook fresh food in the morning, at lunch and for supper. This took all day, but after a while I convinced her that a sandwich would be okay so we could hike and find waterfalls and swim, and so on. So meals became limited except for supper which was all fresh ingredients! We had two girls and although my wife only went backpacking with me once, my youngest daughter would hike with me including along the Appalachian Trail in the toughest parts of the entire trail. She always looked fresh and clean while I was a sweaty mess! So as I watch your videos, I watch them as a father would watch a daughter, I just want you to be safe! You can see her photo if you become a Facebook friend and you can look through the photos. Just type my name in. Also, if you do, I could get an address where I can send you my sonic noise maker a gift from one outdoorsman to an outdoorswoman! It was a gift to me from one hiker so I can pass it on! Take care!

Over the years I've seen Florida Panther, Coyote, Black Bears and wild hogs along with several deer species. Because of this, when wild camping, I never eat (or prepare food) where I sleep. Keeping the two at least 100 feet apart means I can watch animals investigate the food area from the safety of my campsite. Oh yeah, bear safe containers are also a must.

Lemme ask you this, instead of picking fights with strangers in the internet who are supporting creators like Eva who we love, what is it about this that is triggering you? Is it me supporting her against your ideals triggering you? Is it her living a life you are to afraid too? Honestly the amount of bad that happens in this world is only to scare those not brave enough to live how they want. News is scare tactics, how often do they advertise the good in peoples lives? they dont or it would be"braggin" the sheer fact that you commented on my post for someone I greatly admire says more about you that me or her. Maybe look at what you are actually repressing. If all else fails, this is her life. No one has the right to judge her or her choices. If you dont agree with her, thats because ou are different people. Not even mad about your post because you commenting and watching actually help her.So please lets keep going. It just helps her =D id like to think you arent a troll, just a person who wasnt thought of other ways of life and that fine. Personally, ID LOVE to be mauled in the woods doing what I love, living life, than dying of old age in a bed regretting everything I was never brave enough to do. If you arent brave enough yourself, just enjoy. Its fine. You can be safe and still see her view of life. Its really not that scary. Thats whats shes doing, and thats why i adore her so much. I mean I can write you a book at this point. So lets just not kay? See it as a different way of life and enjoy it as such. No one is making you. Honestly a headline like that wouldnt affect your life anyways so trying to use that as ammo against me or another to change our minds is ridiculous. Awesome that you're getting the real American wilderness experience. As someone who lived in Alaska, I'm very curious to find out if you're still planning to make the drive up there this year before winter hits. I drove the haul road to Prudhoe Bay at the end of September and the weather was good then. But fall happens really quickly up there, so by October there could be winter conditions. It will be a long eight months or so of winter most places above the US border. I'm sure you're researching it all pretty intensely but with fall around the corner in those parts and a very long drive ahead of you, I'll be watching with interest to see how you navigate the winter experience. Cabin in the snow somewhere could be fun for a while, all depending on conditions. It would definitely make for some great videos.

@GabrielTravelerVideos2 жыл бұрын
@@JeepCherokeeful That sounds about right. It seems like the best strategy if she wants to do it this year would be to haul ass all the way to Prudhoe Bay as quickly as possible, see how long that takes and then take her time heading back south, making stops along the way. She still has a few months left, so it's doable if the timing is right. But if she takes her time going north she could end up in a situation of either having to rush the trip to get out in time or else be stuck up north through a very long winter. She's probably researching this stuff and factoring it all in.

Hey Eva! I have really loved watching your adventures. Your perspective on all the different cultures and wild environments you encounter has always somehow highlighted their brightest facets. The simple happiness you described in this video is something I think about a lot. I’m an ICU nurse who has worked in covid ICUs for the last few years. The darkness of that time has made me want to seek what I used to find so much joy in- simple nature. I’m hoping to become nomadic in the near future and go find beauty and moments in nature that help bring life back into the present :) And yes, I’m trying to disconnect myself psychologically from the medical field and feel like myself again beyond work. Being yourself should be as natural as breathing, right? But I guess as you say, we put a lot of our sense of self in our titles. I hope to travel the US and see some of the National Parks and Forest and hopefully along the way heal my spirit :) The Jackery Power-station would be a great step towards the journey. Anyway, thank you for your videos and good luck on the journey ahead! And maybe soon I will make that first step :)

So excited for you two and all the adventures you will have! Reminds me of when my husband and I were living out of our rooftop tent for a year overlanding with our mixed dog (55 lbs). When we came into the tent we would have a towel laid out to clean her feet off. I love our Nomadix towels, we have one each (our dog has her own towel). Makes drying off so easy after rain or playing in the water. Fluffy towel is great to have in the tent to absorb tent condensation (usually more applicable in cold weather). Much love and happy travels!! Edit - She is 65 lbs 🐾

Hey Eva I’m throwing my hat in the ring. My husband and I just came back two days ago from a week camping , our second time in our life. This is all new to us ,we are in our mid 50s and 60 and spent our former years seeing to the needs of our four kids which are finally leading their own life now, so it’s all about us now. We came home and right away my husband started looking up portable power as it was so trying to keep our phones and lights going from the little bank we had plus using the vehicle. We are documentary watchers and plan on getting a projector to use during the nights because we leave our tablets and computers at home( trying to live in the moment). Either way, we have to upgrade cause we are really enjoying this pace in this new chapter of life. Keep safe always.

That Jackery is amazing! I would use it to convince my kids we should do more wild camping. Those little power bricks you buy only last a day, that woul last as long as you need with the solar pannels, so cool? A powersupply like that jackery would get more people enjoying the wonder of the outdoors!

Many times I was forced to get back to base or to the car because I had no more power for my cameras . I spend half my year "forest bathing" at a fire tower. Glad to see you enjoying some time in the wild. It isn't always a fun time (most of the time it isn't) but those moments of deep connection make it all worth it. I wish more people would experience it. I think society would be a lot healthier as a result.

Honestly whenever I went camping in the past even the "most of the time" was usually at least kind of enjoyable. For instance, waking up in the morning and getting ready for the day was generally a pain. But at the same time the tranquility and beauty of the forest in the morning was amazing. Same with rain. The rain kinda sucked, but once I was in my tent I loved the sound.

I'm glad you were safe...remembering a time when my son ,his friend I trek the 5 miles to a lake on top of a Colorado mountain..it got later and later and I started to worry,not realizing we were staying until sundown..id used up my cell phone battery taking pictures..it was still light when we started to trek down but it got dark quickly..it was a good thing I visually and mentally kept the map of how we got there in my mind..on the way down,my battery died,then my son's and his friend had 2 percent life on his..we made at a few miles then his friends battery too died. Leading us out of the woods,his friend started to go in a different direction..stubbornly he said it was the right way..i then remapped how we had crossed the small rivers and climbed over high branches...so I took lead..in the dark..it was a small red fishing bulb that brought us to the cliff where we found sight of the city lights below..what a relief!!.. But we were still a few miles and in the woods..i have Never been so frightened in my life..in our pathway ,we heard noises,brushes move..Thank God we didn't see or encounter any wild animals..i have never prayed so hard for safety..it was scary!!..we made the park where we left our vehicles at 10 pm..soldier or not..the wild is it's own beast.

I've always dreamt of having a remote cabin somewhere in nature, like top of some hill or mountain where to spend my time peacefully, explore the nature and also to photograph wildlife. I've always liked the idea of free, clean and independent energy, it feels like you are in balance with nature when you use it. Out there, off the grid, a solar generator 1000 would be useful to accommodate the basic needs of electricity.

Bears aren't half as scary as mountain lions. Bears don't automatically think of you as food, mountain lions do! If you see a mountain lion, get in Odyssey as fast as you can! Think how fast you would get in the truck if you saw a bear, and do it faster.

No doubt! I car camp in areas near my home in the northwest, and it is bigtime cougar country. Way more wary of them than the occasional black bear. I don't adhere to the notion of cooking and eating 100 yards from my vehicle. That's farther than I would enjoy being hunted by a hungry cougar. Storing food in barrels and lock boxes yes. Plus, in my mind, if you cook in the same spot away from camp, every time you go back to that spot, something can be waiting there to make lunch out of you. Basically, it's what hunters do to increase the odds of animals returning to the same spot regularly.

Love this video and you’re doing amazing with your pup!!! At the part when he starting jumping up for cuddles and whining and you asked why, it could be tiredness, pups are recommended to sleep up to 18 hours a day and become irritable and often mouthy when young, similar to babies who are tired and cry. I adore and am in awe of your new travel plans and find you so inspiring. As a mum to a two year old with another little one on the way - immersing my kids in nature is top priority. I have been taking my son camping, dirt bag style sleeping in the back of our tacoma canopy, since he was 6 months old. Without my partner as he isn’t much of a camper. Sweet sounds of nature truly is happiness with no pressure or deadlines to distract. You mentioned the Jackery battery in your video too - we do not have one because they are so costly but boy would it help me ensure I keep my littles safe and enjoying the outdoors. From charging cell phones to making baby food… having one would be amazing. Especially when juggling a toddler and a new born while camping and truly “roughing it” from the back of my pickup truck in the great outdoors.

Hello Ava, I restored a 1952 Wild Goose tear drop camper and installed a solar system with 200W solar panels that can be placed about 10 feet from the camper. It's lots of work lugging the heavy panels around but it's the most efficient getting full sunlight all day long. Some cloudy days I can't get a full charge because of clouds or rain so a Jackery would be a great backup or could be the primary source of power to charge my two 6V golf cart batteries instead of dealing with the heavy panels. I became disabled with tinnitus and became sensitive to most all sound which makes it hard to be at my house living on an industrial road with loud dump trucks and heavy sand and gravel equipment noise at the end of my dead end street so it's hard being home. Keeping my 3 small dogs safe from bears and such is a constant effort camping in Oregon dispersed camp sites but keeps me away from all the city noise. I do it out of necessity but love the outdoors.

Hi Eva! I have been a subscriber for several years now as I enjoy seeing the world through your eyes. Your travels have shown that there are good people all over the world, and in showing your respect, compassion, humour and extending your trust, you have had a lot of warmth and kindness extended to you from the people you meet. If we all followed your behaviour model, the world would be a lot friendlier and more peaceful! I would love to win the Jackery system. I have been aware of the quality of the Jackery products for several years, but as a retiree I could not afford the deluxe system you are offering. I have a multitude of uses for a Jackery system, including taking it with me dry camping in our beautiful provincial and national parks. I live in a rural area of Northern BC, Canada and would use the system as a power back up during a power outage, use it to cool and warm my greenhouse that I use for growing food. I love solar power!
