Wild Camping in Scotland at 3199ft on a Munro Summit!

I hopped through and then rewatched. On the hop through my view was how good you have got at doing these now, so I had a little chrtle at your self-deprecation towards the end. The sound of the red deer in the rutting season is primeval and fabulous. ON the watch back through it was a pleasure and you got in all the gear references without killing it. Really good job.

10mm poles and double guy lines and the Unna copes with anything! I have the mesh inner for summer and it becomes a true 4 season!

10mm poles make a huge difference, especially if you’re used to ‘standard’ 8.5mm poles on most half decent tents.

If it’s dry, it’s a great tent. There just isn’t much space to put wet gear. I love the small footprint, it means you’re more likely to get a flat pitch up high. The space inside is perfect for me. The only downside is the small vestibule, it won’t be for everyone.

@@BackpackingUK Plenty of space inside the inner tent for one person. Unclipping a corner of the inner and peeling it back will make a bigger vestibule for wet gear or cooking in bad weather :)

Hi Andy, nice place where you have been. Really really nice. And totally different in the morning from what it was the evening before. The Unna is a fantastic tent. So versatile. I guess you know that the tent features tree vents, a big one on the side of the entrance, one on the backside and one at the top. But in that sort of wet weather, you would probably have condensation in every tent. That's simply physics. But I think if you open up the two big vents there should be much less condensation on the inner tent.

Andy, the noise (clearly audible in the background at 14:30) is a rutting red deer stag calling to advertise their presence to the hinds and to warn off other rival stags. 🦌 🦌 EDITED: to say this was originally posted BEFORE I got to the end of the video. 🙂

Solid climb, brilliant spot and what a sunrise, beautiful scenery. The Unna looks splendid, large and comfortable for one person, especially useful for winter gear (or filming). The condensation looks unavoidable in conditions where clag/mist drifts over the mountain top all night and over your tent and through whatever ventilation. Still, a small microfiber cloth, some minutes of 'hard labour' and voila, condensation gone.

Great video Andy, i live in Strathyre in the next valley along, and there's an annual hill race from Strathyre up onto Stuc a Croin and back! The noises you could here were the red deer stags around glen ample, they bellow for days during the rut.

Absolutely love my Unna. I second the 10mm poles. I've never had a condensation problem with it so far. Did you lift the front and back vents? The vestibule can be pegged back without unclipping it. Tom Heaney did a good video on how to use the tent

Excellent video Andy. I use an Unna and also find it an excellent tent. I've climbed both the Munros you were up and have heard the Stags roaring. In that area the stag noises can travel miles but they sound very close.

They were good, but nowhere near as good as the Scottish Breakfast I had in Cafe Comrie the morning after! Big Scottish Breakfast £12.00 Bacon - Lorne Sausage - Black Pudding - Haggis - Hash Brown - Beans - Potato Scone - Egg 🤤 I also did Ben Chonzie the next day too (no video)

I am happy that your Hilleberg experience was a positive one..This will be my second time commenting on my Hilleberg negative experience on this site. I say seond time because strangly it seems to have been lost in the.mist.first time around. I have a Black Label Savio tent that leaked on 2 wild camping mountain trips..Rain seeped in under top vent rain cover...I contacted Hillerberg and there response was that is unusual and thank you for calling..the tent plus extra set of poles and postage cost aprox £3000 euros... So you may understand why I am not singing Hilleberg praise..I hope the mist lifts and my comments will not be lost for a second time..For the record I honestly enjoy all your videos..

God Andy I am not saying you would do anything like that..I am a true fan of your videos ..I have always found your videos educational and enjoyable...My reason for posting my comments is to acknowledge that Hilleberg bomb proof Savio tent was a big dissapointment especially after how much the tent cost and Hillerberg response..Another reason I posted on your site is that perhaps you or one of your fans may advise me on a fix..My problem is related with the wind blowing up under the top vent rain cover..

Andy, ventilation of the tent cannot offset humidity. You've a cool temperature and really high humidity there, so you've got the condensation that you've got. Now, I would have covered my sleeping bag with my lightest bivi overbag in that situation. Sure, some tents are better than others regarding this irritating issue, but none can trick physics.

We live right on the Wollemi national park here in Aus. We are about 695m and there are peaks up the road about 1000m +. My first hike in the UK was in the lakes district and I thought “how hard can it be? “Its only the same height as here” well, we got hit by a blizzard hard. Lesson learnt- never disrespect another countries terrain 👍

The Light Tour mats are very warm, however, to get them to the advertised dimensions, you need to blow it up until you think it's going to pop. So if you're tall and you don't want to lay on a mat that's almost as hard as the floor, then I'd recommend a different mat.

I’ve used Garmin, COROS and Suunto. Garmin is the most well known Brand for GPS. The Fenix range is excellent for hiking and backpacking.

I am currently looking at upgrading my Eurohike Nepal 65 (first backpack), and the ROOK 65 and VOLT 65 are what I have whittled it down to so far. Do you have any recommendations on which one to get? If you’re doing an overnighter, condensation shouldn’t be an issue for your bags insulating job. Otherwise grab a simple bivi-bag as a shield. You’d actually be surprised how your bag (you buy good kit) can cope with some moisture, despite all the horror-warnings by some.

Whilst I enjoyed the video overall I think you could have done a better job of selling the Unna. Just by releasing a couple of clips on the inner it's possible to create a large vestibule, which gives plenty of space for cooking, storing wet gear and still leaves ample space inside the inner tent (for one person.) Personally I think it's the most misunderstood and underrated tent in the Hilleberg catalogue.

Great camp and I enjoyed your video as always but why are KZbinrs using feet rather than metres? It’s not just you. Is it to appeal to the US audience? Surely by now anyone walking in the UK uses metres. If someone quotes a height in feet I have to convert it into metres. You’re right about condensation! Surely all proper 4 season tents get condensation forming. The moment you have loads of ventilation, you lose the warmth in your tent.
