Impressed with your dinner! 'Future you' I am now beginning to understand why the 'stitched in ground sheet' is not really the best way to go - condensation! Better to shield yourself from the wind and rain, than be in 'an enclosed' humidity trap - stay drier - stay warmer! Love the vlogs.

Hi Gordon 👋, yeah absolutely! What is also amazing to see is, how 50km/h (30mph) wind look like in reality - still makes me laugh when I read 60,70,80 or even 100mph wind wild camping 😂😂😂. ATB Stripey

Nice one SHG. Looks like the twin pole option gives a bit more stability and support. I’ve converted your wind speeds to mph which pretty much agree with my thoughts. Still wouldn’t be comfortable pitching in constant winds over 30mph (48kph) but my experience is only with a single pole. Anyway glad you enjoyed the tent. Love mine 😎👍ATB - Dave

Thanks a lot Dave. Yeah I think roughly the same with the wind speeds, tbh in wind speeds like that I would look for a sheltered spot/or go a bit down the mountain/hill to find a sheltered spot for a better night's sleep. I really like it as well, great tent 👍 ATB Stripey

It is a remarkable shelter ... I must one day try the a frame set up. I use a sol escape bivi (tyvek) to go over the sleeping bag to protect from any condensation drips and mucky dogs which uprates the bag too as a bonus meaning you can carry a lighter bag! I will one day too get a bathtub :)

This is absolutely one of the most peaceful, relaxing, and soothing videos I have seen. Your creativity and spirit is so moving and touching for many of us. I find such inspiration in this because for a few years already I have struggled with my mental health and really slowly I am getting back to things that I used to be able to do with ease. You inspire me a lot and I want to thank you for it. Sending love and wishing you the best on your journey :)

Great video! I really liked how you used the hiking poles spread out instead of a center pole. How did you set them up at the top to keep them from slipping? It’s brilliant the way you did it. You give yourself so much more room. I have the Black Diamond Mega Mid and am excited to use it in some serious weather. All the best.

@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Serk & 😸, I am not sure about rain and ticks - to my knowledge they just like it wet and when you have sheep you have ticks in the hills (basically everywhere in Scotland 😂) I meant it separately by getting bit by the ticks or wet due to the rain. Thanks Stripey

Excellent to see how tents perform in the wind. My latest has had some wind testing when out but I couldn't say the winds were that strong (licking your finger and holding it to the wind isn't exactly accurate 😂) so I'll need to do a proper test. One thing I can confirm is that I now want a roll 'n square sausage 'n black pudding 🤤 Great stuff as always 👍🏼

I’m assuming that your Lanshan is now redundant given that the Duomid is lighter - where does the Duomid fit with your Scarp 1? Given that the Duomid handles strong wind and is clearly spacious does it also make the Scarp redundant? The Scarp 1 is my go-to tent, I really love it, but from what I’m seeing the Duomid is very tempting. Cheers! 👍
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Into the Wildlands, I love my scarp as well and I don't think I will sell it, at least not now. When I get the chance and more experience with the duomid I will head probably to the same spot and do a comparison - my assumption is just that you can't beat the warms of an attached 3-4 season inner of the scarp.... ATB Stripey
@ashtoddphotography
@ashtoddphotography 2 жыл бұрын
@@StripeyHatGuy Hey thanks for the reply. I suppose you could get a 3-4 season inner for the Duomid - I was actually looking into it a couple of months ago and there were a couple of places willing to make a custom inner for around £190, not only that but I was going to use the same dual pole as you so I was specifically looking for the inner to cover 2/3’s of the space. Never the less I decide to stick with my Scarp 1. I’ll look forward to your comparison video. Thanks again 👍
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy 2 жыл бұрын
You can't go wrong with the scarp, I got the duomid as I got it really cheap, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten it. When I read like 190 pounds for an inner tent 🙄 pricey, probably too pricey for me as I already own a scarp as well.
@ashtoddphotography
@ashtoddphotography 2 жыл бұрын
@@StripeyHatGuy the £190 is also why I didn’t go for it, that and I couldn’t find the Duomid second hand. Like you if I could fine one cheap enough I’d pull the trigger, but until then I’m absolutely happy with the Scarp 👍

I want to get this bathtub, what do you think about the length? I saw it is 210cm, and normally the tents use 230cm. Do you think it is good enough or are you considering an upgrade? I am 1,90m. Thanks

Hello Grazing, I think that it is a good bathtub considering value for money. Depending where you live (e.g. USA) I would consider making yourself one. I am 1.86m. Cheers Stripey

How are the hiking poles connected to each other Herr Stripey ???? could you use a piece of hose pipe ??? I have just bought a Duomid but i haven't tested it out yet . All i have done is fitted guy lines and seen how the Ali express inner fits which i am not entirely happy with just using the one pole so i think the 2 pole solution will help the ali express inner sit better and more central.
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Olan 👋, when I bought the Duomid, I got it used and it came with the pole connecter/cord which is on the mold webpage illustrated. By the end of the day they are just se aluminum pipe bits with a open 'material sock' for connecting the to pipe pieces. You can easily built something like that yourself from your local diy shop + gaffa tape. If you want you can drop me an email and I can send you some pictures. ATB Stripey

are hoop poled, tents less drafty in high winds? or there is smth magical abt duomids design?
@StripeyHatGuy
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Not sure what you exactly mean. How drafty a tent is is probably depending how low you can get down to the ground. How well a tent sheds the wind is for sure depending on the surface area to the wind as well as the shape of it. For me it seems that a pyramid shape sheds the wind very good, but that is for sure not mld duomid specific. Hope it helps ATB Stripey

@@StripeyHatGuy thanks.. and if one pole was used instead of 2, would a tent be much flappier in these winds?
@TheMadmacs
@TheMadmacs 2 жыл бұрын
thats very impressive, i know its a lot of money, but that design looks fit for anything. i look at tents differently since my old vango alpha 300 blew flat on my face and woke me up one night, while i held the tent up with one hand and got dressed with the other, i was trying to formulate a plan to peg the tent out flat, not sure i found a plan but its a good idea to know a tent well enough that if it comes to it, you know how to flat peg it like a tarp on the ground..... ps. you didnt make tatty scone and egg rolls? hehehe
