John generally I believe they sleep on straw and eat hay. I googled it, "Straw is a readily available and inexpensive forage with low nutritional value, making it ideal for horses on an energy-restricted diet. Replacing up to 1/4th of your horse's hay with dust-free straw can promote weight loss, improve insulin regulation, extend feeding time and reduce stereotypic behaviours." Hope that helps great video.

The no touch policy has already resulted in much less stress and anxiety in the horses. They are standing quietly and not tossing their heads and pinning ears. It is much safer for the troupers, horses and public. I believe these videos are probably now being monitored by the Horse Guards and the comments are opening constructive review inside. I also believe the no touch policy preserves the dignity of the job of these troupers, both human and horse. They are working military, on duty, not Disneyland costumed characters.

I am thrilled to see that NOBODY is allowed to touch the horses!! There was never any reason that those horses had to be subjected to all the hands and mauling that people put them through, especially on extremely hot days. People can get a very nice picture taken at a RESPECTABLE distance and should be happy. And for those that STILL don't understand ... ALLOW THE GUARDS TO SHOUT ... THEY WILL LEARN QUICKLY!!!

I'm so glad that they've introduced a ban on touching the horses. Like most fans of Horseguards, I love the glorious Ormonde, and his quirky, loveable nature. However in recent months I watched him really closely and felt so bad for him. People were approaching him on both flanks, behaviour which he really hates, and the poor horse was driven crazy, thrashing his head from side to side. That was it for me, it was no longer funny and I felt it actually bordered on cruelty. Of course Ormonde was not the only horse who suffered from these behaviours and so am absolutely delighted with the new rules and very happy that the Military have adopted this policy. Hopefully now we'll have happy Troopers on happy horses and I wish them all a happy, safe, relaxing summer. 😊

Thankfully the Guard has STOPPED the mauling of their horses. I sit in my home watching (other side of the pond) and would yell at the fools just there to maul the horses. Maybe the horses would bite BECAUSE they did not want to have some random stranger laying their hands on them. I don't like strangers coming around me and putting their hands on me & my property so I can certainly understand that these horses don't like it either. I saw several times when the horse would pull away but the "human" :)) did not get the message.

For another sign, they might have to use a universal pictogram symbol for don't-touch-the-horse, much as we see universal symbols in international settings. This way there would be no language barrier. You know, they could add a pictogram for a person's arm being bitten off, and another for being trampled when the horse acts up.

My family has also been in the Military since the Revolutionary war of 1776. I believe horses are also soldiers. Just as here in the US Calvery. I found it very unsettling that the horses were being touched. I believe that the horses are unsettled when they hear foreign languages yelling loudly. I hope your country finds it fit to keep people permanently behind the barriers they use during the changing of the guards. Love your videos, love your country. God Save Your King. :)

But the hurricane we jut went through 2 weeks ago left us without power for 5 days. So I really sympathize with the police, the guards and anyone else whose job is in the heat.

It gets high 30's + to 40+C in London & occasionally up to 110+ degrees F. The average humidity in London is 80's - 90's % meaning 130's degree heat indexes. More arid climates feel cooler than their measured temperatures as their humidity is usually below 10-30%, which means the index goes the opposite way.

I think that they're letting the people get use to the new sign.(those that read them) And that's why the guards are just quietly admonishing the tourists. I bet later they'll be shouting again! Looking forward to it.😁😉 💥Perhaps the guards could say "NO!" When those appear not to understand English.🤔 Most know that English word.

Agree with you about two signs. If one trooper shouted out loudly “don’t touch the horse” the crowd couldn’t claim ignorance, no matter your native language. Thanks for a great video. Only 86F in the Bronx today 🥵feels like 90F. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

@@John-G delayed reply, sorry. Think that if the trooper shouted loud enough the individual would realize that he/she had committed some infraction and that, in turn, would cause onlookers to be aware of the situation. Hopefully the new signage will help. Depends also on the many tour guides pointing out the new signage and interpreting for their group.

It's a 300+year-old building. Every nail or screw knocked into the walls causes some damage. The weather then makes every tiny bit of damage a little bit more extensive. English Heritage will have had to have given permission for the existing signs to be placed where they are.
