Today I'll be sparring my Moroccan training partner, Almo, who is slightly lighter and faster than me. In the first round, I spar him with my usual game plan, but was running into difficulties because of his speed! So in the following rounds, I knew I had to change up my strategy...

Jeff, Almo, thank you both so much for sharing this. I loved this! It was honestly such a joy to watch. Jeff, it was literally like watching a total sum accumulation of every single video you've ever posted. Your growth in skill, ring intelligence and confidence is astonishing and uplifting and it's so great to literally have a permanent record of it all here on KZbin. And your spinning techniques looked great, not terrible. Thanks for sharing it all with us peons. :) P.S. Your fiancée is now required to provide commentary on all your future sparring videos. :D Almo, you are amazing. The hand speed and hand-eye coordination is astounding, especially how you catch Jeff's low kicks repeatedly without even dipping and slip his spinning backfists. Your rapid fire combos in round 3 are straight out of a video game. I also loved your low wheeling kick and cartwheel kick. Thank you both again. As a shorter faster fighter, I just wanted to add what I hope are a few insightful comments as this really all follows up on Jeff's last video on fighting larger fighters. Feel free to take in or ignore as you please. 1:08 "Little did I know I actually had no speed advantage." :D LOL Man, did I laugh out loud at that one. In truth, I find that when we speedsters fight each other, I find we're often way too evenly matched... at least at the beginning. Then somebody dominates. Sooner or later, someone will realize the other person is in fact faster and they will have to adjust. The quicker you change it up the better. 2:25 I said this in Jeff's last video in a response to someone else, and Jeff executes it perfectly here. You want to beat us faster smaller fighters? STOP US FROM MOVING. Grab us and/or obstruct us. Jeff does it perfectly here by backing Almo up and literally turning himself into an obstruction. He also does a good job of clinching Almo from then on for the rest of the fight. 2:56 Something else I said last video. STOP MOVING YOURSELF. Here Jeff stands his ground and it's interesting to see that though he is a bit backed up, Almo is nowhere actually near the ropes or the corner that I see from the camera angle... yet he doesn't bounce out. Again, I know it seems completely contrary but sometimes you've just got to literally just stand still against a speedster. And then when Jeff does move again, he walks Almo down with measure instead of trying to outpace him. Brilliant. 3:26 Body attacks slow us down considerably. We need the core, not just our legs, to move fast. Take that away as Jeff does here and suddenly we're not so fast anymore. You'll notice at that point that Jeff doesn't even have to attack the legs as much anymore to slow Almo down. The body is a much more effective target on us than the legs, though both are good. 4:12 Great reversal by Almo. This is EXACTLY what a speedster has to do when pressured. Put your pedal to the medal and floor it. I guarantee that I can move forward and strike faster than you can move backwards and defend. Don't get cocky, big fighters. :) 5:29 Great bait and cadence change by Almo as he backs up, stops suddenly, and comes forward striking again. Changes of rhythm, intention and direction are great for throwing opponents off. 5:52 Careful of going to the well once too often. On the one hand, I understand because it worked so well before, why stop now? On the other, the opponent has now seen it and is ready for it. I am just as guilty myself of busting out the same moves repeatedly and getting stopped because of it. 5:57 It's very common for opponents to try and use your best moves against you. Sometimes even firing it out right back out immediately. No right answer here, this will either work by catching them completely by surprise or fail miserably because, what, did you really think someone who is an expert at a move doesn't know how to counter their own move? Which is exactly what Jeff does here. And its the first, only and last time you see Almo try that move when he realizes Jeff can counter it. :) A common example of this is a left-handed southpaw fighter like myself who faces a fellow southpaw fighter and suddenly has absolutely no idea what to do. Make sure you know how to counter your own best moves. 6:39 The last ditch "supermove" is commonly seen out of us faster fighters as we tire out. It's a mental sign that we are mentally and/or physically exhausted and we have now run out of ideas. It's a last stand all or nothing. Once it comes out, I promise you won't see anything new more out of us and it's time to finish us. I want to make very clear this is not a criticism of Almo and I assure everyone I am just as if not far more guilty of doing it than he is. It's just an observation I've both seen repeatedly in others and experienced myself. 7:04 Turnabout is fair play. This time Almo has gone to the well once too often with the teep kick and Jeff catches it on him same as Almo did to his kicks repeatedly before. It works both ways on both opponents.

This is fantastic. We learn these kinds of kicking techniques in my gym, and I'm always looking in vain for examples where they're used in sparring. I haven't been able to find sparring like this anywhere else on KZbin! AND you break it down! I will never perform at the level shown here, but I want to be able to practice (at a somewhat slower pace with my similar vintage cohorts). More importantly, I want to be able to envision it so I can be useful to students moving through the ranks. Incidentally, your action to talking ratio in these videos is perfect. Thank you!!! And more, please!!!

Fantastic sparring, was fun watching the two of you going back and forth. Your spinning techniques looked great, Jeff! Have more confidence in throwing them the way you're doing - using them when your opponent is backed up against the corner is a great strategy for higher percentage at landing them. I always thought you had good technique with those in your style breakdowns of kick-oriented fighters like Wonderboy. Glad to see you implementing some more tricks.

Hey Jeff. I just started Muay Thai a month ago and I’m new to your channel. I was wondering if you could make a video on drills and techniques on throwing kicks with your nondominant leg? Thank you.

Jeff how do you do jumping attacks but without hurting thr other guy? When I do flying knees during sparring it goes straight up into their ribs so it does knock the wind out of you, so I refrain from doing it. I just do them on the bag but I want to practice them on live resistance.

I use to feel the same way, but now I just throw it in the air and I don't actually spike it into the body.

hey Suraj, thanks man! Unfortunately at the moment I don't have any merchandise for sale. I haven't had the time to start it. I want to really do a good job and make quality merchandise but I haven't found the right graphic designer and supplier yet! I appreciate the support though and will let you know when I have some!

Very nice game plan. I lost a kickboxing match two days ago with a wrong game plan. The guy was better then me with his hands n my coach kept saying to pressure forward. I feel like, i should stayed in the outside n used my kicks. What do you think? Whats the best game plan if your opponent has better boxing skills then you?

Small dudes will always have the speed advantage , but they lack the power that the heavyweights possess. I remember a heavyweight friend of mine who once sparred with Thomas the Hitman Hearns, he ate that famous right cross of his and wasn't knocked out. These fast little devils can surely give you a good exercise to practice your head movements and reaction time.
