I love my bottle! Quick note on your review, the release is for Jimmy's 70th year at Wild Turkey, not his birthday. Which is wild to think of being at a job that long, but he still apparently loves what he does even at 89 years old!

It celebrates Jimmy Russell's 70th Anniversary at Wild Turkey. Also Jimmy selected some 8 and 9 year barrels from his favorite spots in the warehouses to mix in this bottling.

After searching for the last month or so in mid michigan (2 of the states largest cities) i about gave up when I walked into a gas station today and sitting on the front counter was a bottle of this 😳 😵‍💫😖👍😉 VERY TASTY 👍 👍

This dropped last week at our ABC store for 45.00 with no limits on bottles. I bought 3 bottles, and they're still on the shelf. We were told that it's going to be available.

I love love love love the 70th anniversary. Its very delicious. I bout 3 bottles, 1st one i drank half of it. Gave one bottle to my brother-in-law. Just bought another one. Everyone is out and its 50-55 dollar. I by this one if i see the bottle at around 50 every day.

Despite liking several of Wild Turkey & Russell's Reserve expressions, I'm in the clear minority for not liking WT101 almost at all. This release was very similar to the shelfer 101 when I compared, but had some smoother edges, elevated oak, better viscosity, and slight red fruit undertones that lack in the shelfer 101. My TLDR opinion was that if you love WT101, this won't blow you away, but you'll probably think it's an elevation of a classic. If you don't like WT101, it won't make you fall in love with Wild Turkey but you'll probably find it more palatable. Glad I have one for the academic comparison and something a little special for my Wild Turkey fans to try, but I can't imagine reaching for it over 90% of my other bottles.

I haven't had an 8 year age statement WT 101 since they dropped the age statement in the early 90s. No one was buying 12 year old plus bourbon back then. So, you can bet some really old barrels got poured into the blend. I need to pick a few bottles up when they show up in my state.

I watched video and went and picked one up, it's quite tasty and enjoyable, I like it....despite what the pushy clerk holding a bottle of Wolcott Reserve said about it!

Yup. Its a good one. I did blind it against a couple US 101s from 2020 and 2022. Both open for at least 2 years. They both beat the 70th at fresh crack for me. But as you said, it could be just down to years of air/oxidation that has the Asian export 8 year feeling richer and giving up more oak notes. On its own, this 70th anniversary is a pleasure. My 1st bottle has been open for a month now and it drank like Fruity AND Cocoa Pebbles mixed into the same bowl together. Great stuff!

I blinded the 8 year with regular 101 and it beats it hands down for me.

I just learned from a bourbon head that you're not supposed to swirl the Glencairn, that it'll disturb the aromas, and that I'm supposed to just let it sit and smell it that way. What he explained seemed to make sense: the bowl is to capture the aromas and the the narrow part acts as a chimney for the aromas to come up. Any insight on this?

I've heard this from many people as well. Swirling will help the spirit to open up. Any vortex formed will dissipate quite quickly, so I've never noticed much of an effect. Just seems to be something people hear and repeat without testing much.
