Join me on this video to see how I got on on my first ever attempt at the scramble up Wildboar Clough in the Dark Peak. Wildboar Clough is a grade 2/3 scramble depending on weather and time of year, and leads up onto the moors just below Bleaklow. I also visited Bleaklow Head and the Wain Stones, before returning along the Pennine Way down Torside Clough.
An interesting and challenging walk, which I measured at just under nine miles. See below for a link.
Thanks for Watching!

I must do this route again. The lack of light in winter meant I couldn't finish the route, but now the days are longer I shall give it another go. I laughed each time you suggested the next bit would be easy, only for you to then take an alternative path. I knew that was coming as I had the same experience. Excellent video. Thank you!

You're right. Nice to have a long day and take your time! It was funny. I kept making a brave attempt, but common sense has to prevail. Those little diversions are still rather interesting, mind you! Cheers for watching and all the best 👍👍

Thanks Nick. And yes, very good advice! I only saw one other person, so not a good place to have an accident. Another good reason for skirting around some of those taller, slimier parts of the scramble!

Enjoyed all of that as much as you did I think des. What a place. Deep, long, remote and wild. I imagine there were times when you felt like the only person on earth. A great scramble. Good to find yourself on top - safely! No doubt the ladies were grateful you made it. Well, good going. Mark

Hi Chris. Not sure I'd try it in winter, especially solo, but I found it really enjoyable at this time of year. I just took my time and skirted around anything I wasn't up to. Cheers for watching and catch you soon 👍🙂

Not as sure of my footing too much any more, so not so sure about the scramble. But looking back over your shoulder at the views sure look inviting. Wow, it certainly does look as though those stones are kissing...amazing nature. Bruce and Otis
@DesGreene

Hi Bruce. Most of it was fine with a little care. I'm sure Otis would have dragged you up there just fine! ☺️ It was an amazing place even in the dry, but it must be pretty spectacular when the stream is in full flow! All the best and catch you both soon! We're away this week, so not enough Internet for watching videos👍🙂

Flippin heck Des. A leg breaker and no mistake!! Best decision mate. No point taking that last unnecessary risk on your own. Even the discretion route looks dodgy. 😬 But overall, what a fantastic scramble that is - brilliant. That last bit is amazing. Almost like a long set of man made steps. Bet you loved all that mate. Spectacular! Don’t think I’ve ever seen a vid on this Clough. Enjoyed your efforts immensely (from the comfort of me armchair with a beer) 😃. Cant believe they run up there!!!!! Hope you’re still enjoying Spain and it isn’t too bad heat wise. We’re off on a European tour next week.

Hi Dave. It was a real cracker of a scramble! Wouldn't fancy running it though! 😂 Ironically, one of the bit I couldn't climb might have been doable in trainers rather than boots. Anyway, always better to err on the safe side! Still baking here mate. Even the breeze is warm! Hope you enjoy your European tour, and the temperatures drop a little👍🙂

Hi Des, well done on completing Wildboar Clough! 😀👏 I've heard it's a very tough scramble and I could definitely see that from your video. I recently walked onto Bleaklow from Torside. However, I chickened out of Wildboar Clough and did a slightly longer but much gentler and safer climb to the top! 😆 Awesome views back down into Longdendale from Torside Clough on your way back down. Well done again Des, good achievement. All the best 👍

Hi Patrick. It was tough in the heat, but I found it doable in the dry conditions. I wonder what it looks like now after the past fortnight's weather? 😂 That stretch along Torside Clough is stunning isn't it? What a beautiful area! Many thanks for watching & see you soon👍😊

Hi Steve. I really enjoyed Wildboar Clough. Been meaning to do it for ages. It did seem strange that it was so dry and yet Torside Clough was flowing. The moor above was very dry also. Hope all is good with you two. Not been able to watch any vids this week as we're over in Spain with not much internet connection.

Love it, at last I can say been there. Well not the scramble. I was there to see the aircraft crash sites on the moor, The Superfortress and the Blenheim. Long time ago and probably in a Galaxy far far away, Well it was before I joined the RAF LOL.
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi David. Yes, the Superfortress site is not too far beyond that farthest point I reached. But the whole of the Peak District is scattered with aircraft wrecks. Some very sad stories and some amazing escapes too! Hope you are both keeping well. Over in Spain at the moment, so I'm behind with everyone's videos! 🙂

Great hike/scramble Des. How long did the actual scramble part take? - it looked tough and tricky... bit dodgy in parts. Good decision to take the (not so easy) paths up the side a couple of times. Was there any danger of falling rocks from overhangs? Do you ever encounter ticks in the peak district? ATB, Terry
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi Terry. It was brilliant fun, and always seemed to be way around if things got too tricky. I can't remember exactly, but I think the actual scramble took me about an hour, with plenty of rests and film breaks. The fell runner? Probably about 15 minutes! 😂 It didn't feel as though there was severe danger of rock fall, but a climbing helmet would not be a bad idea.. especially if you are talking on the bits I skirted around. Touch wood, I've been lucky with ticks the past few years, but I'm always on the lookout for the horrible things! All the best and many thanks for watching👍👍
