A Lion bites harder than a Hyena but a Hyena bites a little bit harder relative to its size. 1000psi vs. 1150psi. Its the same reason why Squirrel and Rat have 7000-24000psi. Psi is bite force relative to size. Newtons is the true way to measure bite force.

The test that produced that calculation was done on a young Lion. And now it’s like general information,being repeated all over the place. Tigers being larger than lions is outdated information. Studies indicate that both animals roughly weigh the same on average with the bengal tiger being the largest of all the tiger subspecies. Wild siberian tigers weigh around 360-400 pounds wheras lions and bengal tigers weigh around 420 pounds. Im also not sure where you got the idea from that tigers are more muscular than lions when lions usually perform better in strength tests. Big cat experts who have worked with both animals usually give it to the lion aswell. Most people however prefer tigers because they look cooler to them and will get butt hurt when somebody claims that a lion will kill a tiger in combat. Facts over feelings.

One thing not mentioned is that a tiger will almost inevitably be fighting alone, whereas most lions can summon assistance with a roar or two. So if they occupied the same land the outcome would most likely favour the lion. But I know that’s not what was being compared. I just added a dash of reality to the discussion.

Good but not complete or correct in all respects. For example, there are lions in India too. Also, there are Asiatic Cheetahs. Even if they were exterminated in India, Iran still has some in there. Finally, along the bite forces, the size of the canines is an important point. For example, Tigers have 4" incisors, larger than those of Lions at 3". Will you take these into account in the next version?

But in the case both of them are nearly same in term of weight, it's only right if both of lions and tigers body structure have no different, and the problem start from here. Lion's muscle are focus in the front, instead distribute throughout the body like tiger. They also have shorter but more robust spines. This make them less agile and can't standing good as tiger, but make them more durable. Combine with larger lung and heart, as well as manes make lions so durable.
