They are not that hard really and tougher than you think. About 30 years ago I bought 6 babies and raised them. I lost 2 along the way but the other 4 grew up to adult hood and started breeding. I was so surprised and so happy. I kept getting more babies than I could deal with. So i would start selling them back to the fish shop I got them from. And made a little bit of money off of them. So give it a try. Start with a Panda they are not to pricey and quite prettty. I would like to do it again but I am getting old! LOL The Discus were Red Royal Blues. And this all took place in Japan when I was stationed there. I am retired USAF 20 years.

Sir very nice to see how u grow discus along with you . Sir my problem is one of my discus is not taking food from past 15 to 20 days . But it looks normal n swims healthy all around the tank . I have tried all the medicines including deworming but no changes . What should i do now ?

Ryan, this was an awesome video. A great inside view on one of the most respected names and providers of discus in the world. Even though I kept discus for years and consider myself “experienced”, I still learned a lot from this guy. 👍
@WildFishTanks5 жыл бұрын
To a novice fish keeper like me, especially when it comes to discus, I wasn’t sure how much of it was me just knowing nothing haha. Glad to hear his expertise holds up. I really enjoyed the fish, the setup and hanging out with Gabe himself. I know at one point they were your main focus, pretty sure now it’s a matter of when and not if I’ll be keeping some discus.

Hi Gabe, if you are running the 78 tanks on a wet/dry filter, how do you remove debris from your breeding tanks ? The bottom of your tanks look very clean :)) Do you siphon manually the 78 tanks ? Your Discus are amazing, thanks for sharing.

Back in the 1980s a strain of discus called Schmidt-fox 5 (or Schmidt Foche-5, I remember by sound only) was quite sought after. Can any old-time discus keeper tell me what happened to this strain? Is there an equivalent strain now? This strain had brilliant blue wavy lines on an olive brown background, not a solid color fish.

Daaauum!!! Those are impressive! The Angels & Discus both appear to have nice strains. My fav was probably @8:28-8:34 time stamp... I've only seen them once in Germany,.. well until now. So do you sell to public or private business only? Outstanding job btw! Located in S.Florida? How often are tour done if any or only by special occasion? I'm so glad i clicked on this, i mean what are the odds,rite? ;)
