My Wild Welsh Garden

Күн бұрын

Last year I decided to add more native plants (wildflowers) to my garden to provide more food for insects and their caterpillars. I have a look at how they are doing and show how I am trying to propagate them - collecting and sowing seeds, taking cuttings and divisions.

Hello from Sweden!🇸🇪🇸🇪 Thank you for a wonderful channel! I found you through, Bealtaine Cottage ( Ireland), and I am happy I took a look at your channel...🤗 And as a Swede, loving Nature, Sustainability, and Enivironmental Work, I am so happy to see more Countries waking up and start to understand how important the nature and wildlife, both on land and in the waters, are for our, (human beings), existens... So thank you for your work helping Mother Nature survive and thrive 🙏💖🤗 With Love from Sweden 🇸🇪🤗🌿💖🪱🐛🦋🐞🐝🪰🪳🪲🦗🕷️🐌🐜🌿🤗💖🇸🇪

Hello in Sweden. Welcome to my garden. It was so kind of Colette to recommend my channel. The UK is one of the most nature depleted countries and Wales is the worst of the UK countries. I think Sweden is much better at looking after your nature and wildlife. But I`m doing what I can and hope to encourage others too. Thanks for watching and I hope you can come again in the future.

Another enjoyable episode, I do look forward to your videos each week. I grew red campion from seed last year and found every single seed germinated and I was absolutely inundated but they're so good for the insects and have a long flowering season.

Thanks Sarah, I`m so glad you enjoy the videos. I find red campion very easy to grow from seed too, but not so good at self seeding. I think all mine germinated so I should have a lot in the garden next year. Thanks for watching.

Thanks. I`m getting to like untidy too. I really like the grass mixed with flowers so I`m going to encourage grasses to grow in all the borders. Pennywort likes cool, damp walls, apparently - and you can eat it. But I`m going to leave it for the beetles.

Hello Isabel, thank you for another video of your ever changing garden, you would think it could not get better how wrong you can be. You treat the birds right and they think they own the place!!. The native plants can be as pretty as none native ones and do far more good for wildlife and there is far more satisfaction propagating your own. The views took me back many years spent walking in the area. thanks again for another stunning video. Take care and stay safe. Bryan fae Orkney.

Blackbirds can be very trusting, we had one that would tap the bedroom window early in the morning waking us up for mealworms to feed the chicks. The native plants are looking happy and great to see so many seedlings for next year. Glad that your cuckoo flowers are taking, mine need potting on now too.

Just lovely Isabel. The leaves didn't look like ragwort but more like agrimony. Wales seems to be a good place for bee beetles as we have them in our cottage garden also

Thanks so much. Yes, according to iNaturalist the bee beetle is only found in northern Scotland and in Wales. And not very common in Wales. Is that your record near Machynlleth? I feel very privileged to have seen so many.

Thanks for the views of the Welsh countryside. I have some volunteer Fox-and-Clubs (I like the common name "Devil's Paintbrush") growing in one section of my garden that I'm trying to convert to a blue/orange section, but it it listed as an invasive species in BC Canada, so I will rip it out this fall. The most impressive section of my garden in June was a section of volunteer purple toadflax and red snapdragons in a large section of gravel. I'm taking partial credit for that for knowing what they were as seedlings and imagining how they might turn out. I'm surprised how little water they need.Your blue slate paths look good contrasted to the green foliage. Cheers.

Your garden sounds fabulous. I thought fox and cubs was native to the uk, but apparently not. I don`t think it`s classed as invasive though and the insects like it. I`m hoping things will start to seed into the slate paths as they become established.

I have had a verbascum covered in mullein caterpillars this year. They ate most of the foliage but as I have more of this plant I left them to it. Have you got any Lythrum the bees go mad for it. Mine is just coming into flower.

Nothing has eaten my verbascums yet. The first year here there were mullein caterpillars on a buddleia, but not since. My friends have them further down the valley, but not here. Fingers crossed they find the mulleins. I have got Lythrum in the old pond but it`s not flowering yet.
