Nice one Richard, good for you to show how it really is and the reality of wildlife photography for the majority of time. Crap weather and subjects not playing the game!! Great when it comes off though!! Makes all the effort and disappointment worth it mate. When youre out on location though for a limited time youve got to work with what youve got. Great film, look forward to part 3 mate. All the best, Si 📷👊🏼

Cheers Simon, asa you well know that's the reality most of the time, lol... But like you say sometimes you get the great days when things come together, hopefully you'll see that in the next Vlog! Indeed, it's great when you've got a bit more of a challenge on your hands, noting like a bit of self induced pressure, lol.. Thanks again mate, R 👍

Hi Richard, good to meet you on Mull, pleased you got some good Otter footage, great shame about the weather, we stuck it out until the Tuesday and cut our holiday short and went home. Your vlog's are always very interesting and your enthusiasm shows through, keep up the good work and keep getting the message across about respecting the wildlife. It is always great to get a nice shot of what you have seen and to be able to share it with others but sometimes just being there and observing is just as satisfying, looking forward to part three.👍

Hi Ian, great to meet you too! It was such a shame about the weather, I know it's the west coast and renown for changing weather as is Cornwall but it would have been nice if the weather reports were more accurate! Thanks for your kind words about my videos, it's lovely to hear people enjoy them, majority do but some no so, lol.. Still you can't please them all! So pleased to have captured a few pleasing images of the Otters, the pressure was on to try and get some this time around. I'm going to focus more now on wildlife sensitivity to try and hopefully educate others. Thanks again Rich👍

Nice frottage of the otters in spite of the weather. A situation I'm sure most outdoor photographers experience all too often when travelling and unable to be as selective about the light we end up photographing in.

Nice images. I photographed an otter near to Torridon a few years back and struggled with the light and distance to the subject. Ended up with great memories and no decent images. I am still an Otter novice.

Thanks Tony, sometimes seeing the subject is reward enough, although it's great to get a few shots in the bag! We are all learning and I certainly haven't spent a great deal of time with Otters, but I will do in the future. Cheers R

I’ve even challenged people on Facebook groups I’m a member of and some people think there’s nothing wrong with getting close. They think just because they are not on top of the nest, they are not doing any harm. They totally don’t understand how wildlife can get stressed.

Brilliant footage Richard, Just being out in nature watching and observing animals in there natural habitat is so uplifting, Do you recommend taking a hide to Mull especially for if the weather is inclement? i'm heading up there in September my first time on Mull I've done the mainland & Skye quite a few times!
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Andy, very kind of you! Top be honest I took three different types of hides for different conditions but I had room to allow me to bring them. Yes, I would although for Otter photography being mobile is the best approach but when the weather turns nasty as it did, retreating to my hide was a godsend! And payed off in Pt-3.. Skye looks amazing and is on the list, best of luck in Mull, I hope the people and weather are better than my trip, lol.. Cheers R 👍

Hi Richard. Nice vlog again. Just on the point of harrier disruption, would it not have been better to say something otherwise these people never learn. At the end of the day they are a schedule 1 bird and disturbing them is illegal. First nature give advice on doing just that to prevent wildlife being continually disturbed! Unfortunately with the amount of people going to these awesome places there’s bound to be a percentage that aren’t aware of the rules. Keep up the good work!
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter, you are totally right there but there was a reason for not having a word but I'd rather not put it on KZbin for all to see as it might be a bit controversial so best not! I think there might be some new local measures to help protect certain species as other reports have come to light since mine. Really appreciate the comments and it's certainly a frustrating situation! Cheers R 👍

Thanks for great videos! If you got the time, when video filming wildlife, does your monitor gives you all you need or do you miss a viewfinder with magnifier? I new to this and I think it’s hard to film with the camera live view only.
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rune, I am currently finding the screen on the back is ample, however I have got an external monitor which I will start to use again at some point! I also like to look through the eyepiece when doing video and track it from there, I like how you can check focus and easier to track the subject! Hope that helps, all the best R

Yep, bad weather on the Weest coast! Still I got a couple of hours of better light in 6 days, lol.. Very sad to see and really did put a black mark on my trip, more education needed! It seems the shot comes first, subject second! Cheers R 👍

What a lovely vlog.Such a lot of information and insight into what genuine photographers come across! It is so, annoying that there are some idiots out there that have NO respect for the subject.Let’s hope that they are in the minority! Weather plays a big part also but I still really enjoyed it. Fingers crossed for next part.Well done.🥰

Frsutrates me that people dont respect the wildlife and its envrionment, i spend more the planning landscape and wildlife photography than actually taking pictures. This way i can be sure that i have minimal impact on the environment and the subject i am taking pictures of. Fair play i would have been rather impilote about the whole thing. Great video, shame about the weather, alas these islands seem to have a mind of their own when it comes to weather systems. Looking forward to the next video.

Hi James, it's such a shame isn't it! Gives us all a bad name, I only wish people were more like you and I, education is needed for some but many just don't care! It was difficult not to say but after speaking to a few people nearby it wouldn't have done any good for this particular person as he's been told before😬! Yep, weather is a bit of a pain but still we've got to get through it and just run the course. Thanks again R👍
