Yellowstone is so beautiful! I love the Ansel Adam’s black and white panorama, and the low-key raven was very creative? How did you capture that image?
@MattShannonPhoto10 ай бұрын
Thank you for the compliments to my Ansel Adam's and the ravens! I will have to do a quick episode on how to photograph and edit to get low-key images. This one was more in the editing but there are ways to create it in camera. Typically in a very controlled environment where the lighting is primarily on the subject.

As a resident of the UK, specifically Wales, I truly envy the vast areas of wilderness you have out there in the states and the large wildlife that goes with it. Not that I don't love my native country; I really do. However, I don't envy the crowds of people that congregate around the "hot-spots". But again, I guess that's the same everywhere. As for the B/W shot of the Bison, whilst I like the effect but because there is quite a strong white rim around the right eye (LH side of image) I think the B/W makes that stand out a bit too much and unbalances the image and so in this instance I prefer the colour version. Best wishes to you and your family from here in a very wet Wales.
@MattShannonPhoto10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful comment and sharing your perspective! During my UK travels, I camped at a stunning campground called Shell Island in Wales and had the opportunity to visit a few castles-it truly is a beautiful place. At high tide the road would flood and you couldn't leave. I completely understand your thoughts about the crowds at popular destinations. While the landscape and wildlife is so amazing, the crowds can sometimes detract from the experience. It seems to be a universal challenge!

Your photography inspires me to get out and shoot more. Thanks. FYI the geyser video from another source is Strokkur Geyser in Iceland. No bison or wolves there but great photo opportunities for lanscapes, sheep, ponies and, my favorite, puffins.
@MattShannonPhoto10 ай бұрын
Happy to hear my photography is inspiring, thank you! Oh no way, It looked a little off from the geysers we visited. Hmmm, I guess my search engine focused on any geyser clip instead of the specific one I was looking for....a famous one at that. Iceland has been on the top of my list of places to visit. I don't consider myself a wildlife photographer by a nature photographer and Iceland sounds perfect for that. Amazing landscape and who doesn't love ponies, sheep and of course puffins!?
@jonstout763510 ай бұрын
Always love the B&W shots. They have such great texture and lighting. The bison in the road were unique compositions, and considering how much they spend on the roads - it makes sense to capture them with the leading lines of the highway. The raven photo is a work of art. No disappointments with anything. I hope to see what you discovered in Glacier National Park.

Love the video as usual! What stunning wildlife down there. I'm positive it wasn't easy to make this trip with your little 10 month old, but it's so cool that you made it work! Re the bison: I think I love colour! I love the feel of the B+W, but the contrast of cool tones and warm tones on either side of his face are just so neat.
@MattShannonPhoto10 ай бұрын
Thank you Laura :) Bringing my little one along definitely added an extra layer of challenge, but it was all worth it for moments like these. They had very big heads for Bison as the Buffalo have the bigger heads as we have them on farms in Alberta. Wolves use to be loud in Alberta but over the years the government put a hit on them and they're quiet. Grizzly Bears are fun to capture as we have them near by in Swan Hills.
