It is so encouraging to see parents teach their children to be responsible, and to introduce them to greater responsibilities in a timely fashion, rather than to wrap them in bubble wrap. Kudos!

🤣 How times have changed... My parents didn't buy my vehicles. I had to mow lawns and detassle corn whatever odd end jobs cleaning up yards etc. Bought a moped at 14 paid for everything including insurance. Definition of teaching responsibility sounds like most Millennials these days...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@nathanasimpson2 жыл бұрын
@@centosx I think you're missing the point. Think about how much further you could have made it if you could have bought a small truck instead of a moped because your parents knew they could trust you to take care of it and went 50/50 with you. Imagine that, after giving you more and more responsibility, they decided that after learning to change the oil, check your tires, knew how important road safety is, and the cost of ownership, you could have expanding your lawn mowing business with a vehicle and a better lawn mower with the help of your parents. That's how this works. You don't tell your kid to go work an entire summer for something that you already know they can handle, when you can more than afford to find their dreams and responsibilities, so that they can go further than you ever did. It's about developing a better legacy in your kids, not recreating it.

The greatest book of wisdom of all time says if you raise a child in the way that they should go, when they are old they will not depart from it. You two are going to leave the world with three wonderful kids. Marriage is a partnership, not a fairy tale. However, if you get the partnership right, the fairy tale will follow. You two have figured that out. I so enjoy watching you. My favorite vids of the week.

I loved how surprised and excited Carter was when he saw the truck. He is an amazing young man and a true credit to his parents. The way that he has taken over various farm chores and really seems to love everything that he does on the farm and with the animals. Both boys are really great with Ellie too which has created a beautiful relationship and memories that will last a life time. From personal experience just getting in a vehicle with a manual stick shift and practicing driving and changing gears on the quiet streets of the neighborhood I grew up in was the best way to learn because I could choose times when there would be little to no traffic. Our church parking lot was also great because it was very large and had hills and inclines that were perfect for practicing starting to move forward and shifting gears while on a hill without having to be worried about rolling backwards and getting to close to any cars behind you out in normal traffic. I was tempted to put a sign on the back of my car to warn other drivers to stay back as I was still learning to shift and drive a stick. After I mastered it I loved it. Would later teach both my youngest sister and my husband how to drive a stick shift using the method I used. My Dad gave me basic lessons , at the church parking lot, on how it worked and took me out a few times before letting try it on my own around the neighborhood. I was very proud of myself for buying my own first used car and really teaching myself how to drive a manual car with very little help. I also figured out how to get to work with little stress while mastering how to use a stick shift by finding alternate routes with fewer hills and severe inclines with stop signs and lights which wasn’t easy as we lived in the metropolitan areas surrounding Washington DC up in Northern Virginia which by that time seemed to have rush hour traffic 24/7 which was the polar opposite of how it was when we first moved to Virginia.

These 3 PRECIOUS gifts from God have anything but a sense of self-entitlement. For example...Carter being so thankful for the gift of the mini truck. You rarely, if ever see them sitting idly by w/an iPad/cell phone in their hand. Rather, they’re always busy about the family’s farm work.
