As frustrating as all this is, consider it a blessing that it happened now, with minimal damage, and you are able to strengthen the weak points before they are more of an issue. Be grateful in all things. Lessons are not always easy, but necessary for growth. Bless you and stay safe.

I live in Tornado country. 🌪 I'm saving to build an ICF ranch style house with a full basement. Probably do buildDeck or similar floor so the entire basement is essentially a concrete bunker. I'll do a hardcore job of bolting/strapping the rafters down and over build them a little so they will survive everything but the most extreme tornado.

@target8442 жыл бұрын
@@poopingandroid An emergency exit does not need to be a full sized door. If you look at civilan air raid shelters the might only be a square hole 2x2 feet as the emergency exit. Put plate over the hole and fixed with with a beam bolted to the walls. Have the beam in the middle with a single bolt on each side Let there space between the plate and the beam and use some wooden wedges to keep it in place. Now you can get it open by just hitting the wedges. The beam should not have the bolts in holes but slots so you can remove it by just sliding it to the side when no pressure is applied The other side does not need to be visible. If you put the hole on the upper half of the wall and have loose material like sand or gravel on the other side you can dig it into the shelter and get out. You need to remember to have the tools you might need to get out in there and a way to get air in. A hand cranked fan that you can attach to air pipes is somthgin to consider. '

First off, we are so happy to see yall all being whole and sound! Our prayers are always here for yall! Watching you all through these tribulations well we see that "There is always the unexpected" and in those times it bonds the family in ways that nothing else can do, literally holding each life in your hands and they in turn leaning trust, loyality, also what our children teach us when times and conditions are hard is "Resilence!" To bend and not break! Without that bond than all you do would be hollow! Instead everything yall do and go through are times of promise backed by hard work and integrity, that can't be taught in the depth of meaning in the walls of any school and as for what you faced together and how you all deal with the aftermath, stories will be told in the years to come and the lessons will pay back 10 fold! Ciao from N. Italy!

If you build the chicken coop as an (A) frame like the house, but with a 2 foot wide flat top for the water tank it would shed the winds away better and maybe lowering the floor closer to the axels even if you have to cut slots out of bottom of the roof for the wheels. This will reduce it's height to the ground to keep the winds from going underneath. Another idea for ya. If you fill the tires with hard expanding foam. You'll never have to worry about them going flat ever again. 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔

We built a safe room in our house when we built in 2005. Just like you described. It’s a concrete box and it’s not attached to anything. It’s a stand alone room within the frame of the house. the frame doesn’t touch the room at all. We have a wooden door that hides it. Looks like all the other doors in the house then a steel door to the room. I wish I’d have made it larger because it’s where I keep my gun safe and a small work bench to use for cleaning guns etc. but it’s only been the 3 of us until May when our daughter married and moved out. So it’s plenty big for my wife & I. But we have used it many, many times over the years as we are in central Alabama and storms/tornadoes are frequent. You’ll certainly enjoy and be glad you built it once you move in and know you have that safety is built right in and you don’t have to go outside in the storm to get into any other shelter. It’s a great piece of mind
@georgerrust40872 жыл бұрын
safe room is always a good idea. concrete walls, floor & ceiling is a lot of weight so....why don't you weld and gusset a smaller space out of 3/8's mild steel (any body can weld mild steel). less work completing, faster to build and cheaper. just a thought. Also there are good reasons why tornado bunkers are often built separate from a main house/residence
