Just recently found this channel. I have an older family member who received a pop up on her computer that had her call this one eight hundred number claiming her computer had a virus (she thought it was really Microsoft) She was already having medical issues that day that probably attributed to her not thinking straight. She was/is embarrassed that she fell for this. Luckily, she never sent them the payment. She asked me first. It's really sick to prey on older people and I'm happy to see them getting payback. What I love about this channel is that it helps me see what a “real” scam looks like and the kind of tactics that might be used. I’m autistic and therefore less likely to suspect that someone is lying, and I have trouble guessing what people’s motivations are (it’s a Theory of Mind thing and I’m terrible at it) so I’d actually be susceptible to these kinds of scams. Knowing what to watch for helps me a lot. Thanks for that!

We have a "we won't bail you out" if you get in trouble rule. A scammer called saying my daughter was in trouble and needed money. I told him she could stay there. (I knew she was home.). He tried to tell me an officer of the court was going to come and arrest me. I hung up. Especially with AI voices now never believe these people. Don't ever call back on a number they provide.

I think the main reason is because the way he remotes on to their machine is through the software that they use when they connect he can then send a file transfer request. If you get a dumb scammer that provides their password and ID when they should be asking for yours and hopefully doesn't realize you connected then you might get away with that but the level of access pierogi has it's basically FTP or nothing. There would be (or should I say is) ways of accessing the webcam without their knowledge with a very basic topology of their network but then it depends on how far he wants to push legality and learn new techniques

@@DeanD1990 A way around this is to add an infected file to the desktop with something juicy as the filename and hope they either open it or download it. Once opened it will open up a connection to the computer allowing full control, sometimes of the whole call centre.
