looks like it was a crop sprayer and they took the sprayer booms off it when it was parked

exactly what i was thinking it has a widened rear and single front tire with enough clearance for rows of crop the tank would not be for fuel lmao the rear suspension travel is impressive but not understood by me . as a cheap way to have a set of functioning systems with replacement parts going air-cooled vw is a brilliant idea ..although surprised they chose to use a set of chain drives when cv's and axeles would have worked and worn better and been stronger .. neat bit of engineering all in all

Yes, looks exactly like the rig my father and brother used to put out round up with. there were booms on the side with wicks so the round up would touch the the Johnson grass that always grew higher than the the maize (grain).

Definitely a row crop sprayer. My uncle made one from a “lifted” farmall tractor back in the 80’s. It was used for spraying asparagus when it was “bushed out”. When the weather gets to hot they stop cutting asparagus and let it grow tall. It gets up to 4 feet tall. They had a bad problem with aphid in the 80’s and the tire and wheel armor part a path for the tires without grabbing onto the crop. It had a boom with drops that almost drug on the ground with jets pointing upwards to spray underneath the plant. They tried spray from airplanes and it wasn’t working. He sprayed for several farmers and probably helped save several small farms and farmers.

definitely an old irrigation machine, probably had to make something that would match his crop widths, instead of running over them, and high enough not to hurt the tops of the crop, kinda cool. great find guys.

Might be one of the very first Melrose Spra Coups. They just had and open cockpit, someone wanted an enclosed cab. I had 3 of the later models, 2 of the 115 models with the 1600 cc air cooled bug motors, and I still own a late 80's 220 model with the water-cooled VW Rabbit motors.

I thought I commented on this last night when I watched it. Apparently I didn’t This was a brave venture you did, I think it went very well, doing a show of my own I understand the challenges. And I think the technology that you implemented to do multi cam live was brilliant. I’m looking forward to where this goes as you perfect the process. I don’t think any of us that watch care as much about the Outcome as the process. Good job.

Great job in getting it fired up and moving! Never thought I'd say.., this is the first time that I've ever seen anything that was both stupid and ugly looking at the same time. Drop it in the front, add dual rear wheels, cut out the bug, add a seat, a set of handle bars, dual exhaust straight up flame throwers, a set of wheelie bars and you got yourself a Mad Max Trike for car shows and parades.

What you have is an early model Melroe SpraCoup, It does use a VW drive train but it appears to have had the spray booms removed. It was designed to spray chemicals on field crops twice as fast as a tractor mounted sprayer could. I worked at a SpraCoup dealership for 10 years starting in the early 90s, the Coup you have is from the early 1970s

I like watching you guys but I must admit I find it frustrating. 2 guys pulling vehicles from death and we all know that first see if it was seized. If not check for spark. Disconect fuel line. Check oil. You guys have 2 men but only 1 think gets done at a time. You both know what has to be done but wait for the other to do something before doing the next. It's frustrating. Every car needs the same check system but you wait until someone says do this or that. I enjoy the show try this to improve. Again, only my opinion. Glad to see sis getting involved. Enjoy

This is a wonderful piece of engineering, certainly unique and beautiful in it's unique ugliness!! I would like to see it restored, It will be way cool if it would be more VW Beetle-like, use a VW hood to make the front end look like a VW, and also rear VW style fenders; and the rear hood, make that box into something more VW like, maybe a T2 micro-bus style; Search lights and or LED lights will make it look mean. Maybe some fake Gatling guns to make it more post- apocalyptic!!!
