Put your foot all the way down on the clutch to put the pto in gear it’s called live drive. When you put your foot down and you feel the tension go that’s half way down that’s just for the drive gears for the tractor, when you put the clutch all the way down you can still change gears but that’s when you can put the pto in gear.

To start the PTO, you must fully depress the clutch and then move the PTO lever back, then slowly release the clutch. I hope it helps. My congratulations, it is for me a great tractor, a good Massey Ferguson.

Those old Perkins diesels are hard to kill !! We had a 275 Massey on the farm as a ditching, & hay bailing tractor ! It was one awesome tractor !!

Poor ol tractor been sitten fir so long An once he fires it up he immediately is trying to turn steering an turn pto on An shuts engine off an tries to restart it cpl times .. if it were me I’d let it jus idle for a bit befor I start trying to turn things on an off.. let fluids circulate etc then slowly try engaging things .. not be in such a hurry to make everything work right off the bat.. I enjoy these videos muchly jus go easy on them when ya first get them fired up ..have some mercy lol 👍

I ran a MF175 w/Perkins gas with a FEL on and off for several years on my Uncles farm. These were a great work horse... handiest piece of equipment on the farm! Thx for posting! 👍

"It has 3700 hours on it" try 13700 hours.. check the wear on the clutch pedal at 3k7 there will be very little wear. I have a 135 of around the same vintage (1966), that has done 29500 hours.. ! in daily use up until 3 years ago.

Hello from ireland, we farm with Massies and we have a two 165's, one with the exhaust on the left like yours and the other on the right if you are sitting on the tractor. The the tractor you have is the MK1 with a A4.203 engine which are the exact same as a MF 65, the other one with the exhaust on the right is the MK11 with the A4.212 engine, and also there was also a MK111 with the A4.238 I think engine. We have had Massies ever sence my grandfather bought a 35 new.

Them old perking motors were so good, just let her have some 2stroke with her diesel to keep that lucas rotary pump lubed and they will run forever.

I have a 1965 165 and it might sit a year in between uses never have a problem with that old perkins diesel

Hey Bruce, I live in a small town in California close to San Francisco, there is this small abandoned island. That went under water, there is about ten old tractors and rigs and what not, it's really super cool, the island used to be a resort, and went 10 feet under water

Kingpin is usually worn out on a 165, most folks won’t crawl under the front end to grease it.

That's if it had power steering as standard. Where my late father worked they bought two in 1967, one was no Multi Power and no PAS, the other had both and a front loader.

Those masseys have a 2 stage clutch for pto engagement. Push it all the ways down and it should pop into gear

We have a MF 165 S it works pretty good. She has a cabin. The steering is not bad but not good it kinda doesn't steer to left sometimes.

The difference in 165 and the 65 is 7hp. Drain and flush the transmission probably got water in it from sitting out. Power steering is the most easiest ever built you can turn it with your little finger

here in the Philippines we never abandoned old tractors because old tractors here is a gold...My father's friends they have their own FIAT..My father told "look son my old year's I still remember when me and my friends plowing this huge land here using our FIAT tractors it's a gold days because untill today even the modern tractors today I always prefer old tractors because it's better"

That’s the smallest Perkins deisel put in the 165 it’s a AD4.203 we have one with the same engine it has 30000+ hours on it and now it needs its first engine overhaul because it ran out of oil

we have a old 175 those old tractors are bullet proof. has perkins engine. steering always sucked. Brakes not much on them either. steering pump seals prolly out on it. no oil in pump most likely. when they go out it pumps the oil back into engine.
