I think whoever's lucky enough to win the little Dexter would probably appreciate the mechanics being done over the cosmetic jobs. I like the patina mux. Leave it as it is. Squirt it in gas oil and wipe it over with an oily cloth

It is a good idea to put some mink oil on the leather diaphragms and yes mink oil is made from minks. Never use vegetable or mineral oils as they harden the leather.

That original paint work has awesome patina, I would definitely not paint over that 🙈. It's an old tractor, try match the nose cone in 👌.repaint the whole thing & it will look like all those other big Shiny plastic yoks going around taday. Once it's painted yall never get the original back & u know that your self 😂

Good to see the Dexta coming through Cosby Rehab. I would give it a little flash over. shame to lose want (presumably) original paint work is left, but a flash of colour would improve the red oxide look!

Well melod, as the Dexta is now, it looks like a work in progress so it looks fine. If, you only paint the nose cone, bonnet and tank and not the mudguards then it will look half a job. I say leave up to the new owner!

I think you should paint it as even a blow over job is better than the mismatch of the oxide red and faded fordson blue.

That engine sounds sweet. I used to run two of those, they were both well and truly dead. They'd fire up one cylinder at a time in summer. I think the heater plug in these was supposed to be an ignitor pump with a hand primer under the fuel tank next to where you were stood. I never got them working properly on the ones I drove. But they would ignite wd40 if used in lieu of easy start. Using a gas torch with the nozzle removed to produce a long orange flame was pretty effective, but it did lob flames out the exhaust when cranking.

Most had that system removed as it just leaked fuel constantly. Some were even removed at the dealers before delivery. This one has been removed too.

@@LordMuck ours were both a bit damp around the push button but never dripped on the floor. Most of the leaks were from them blowing oil out of the breather due to lack of compression. To start without the flame in winter you must have a pretty sweet engine. Who ever wins this will be really lucky.
