I was married to a vegan for 15 years. During that time I saw my weight go from 180 to 254 only eating salads, rice, pasta, beans, legumes, wholegrain bread, and fruit. Finally at 70 years old when I got divorced, my doc told me to either change my lifestyle or I'd probably be dead in 4 years. I went keto in 2020 and carnivore in 2022. Today I'm 75. I weigh 165 and no longer have any health issues. I think that the vegan doctor in this video has screws loose. I am living proof keto and carnivore work.

Then went carnivore lifestyle about a year ago and have reversed what I think was long covid (had covid in December 2021). Lost 20 pounds, gained strength and muscle mass back, and better sleep. Age 73, still alive and back to regular exercising and weight training. Life is great!

The thing that makes me roll my eyes about the Keto Kills guy: he doesn't actually get into any science or hypotheses as to why keto would be bad or any of the mechanisms behind it. Rather, he presents lots of different people's opinions or anecdotes that "everyone" knows are true. Poor to zero science in his arguments.

We have however experienced weight loss, better gut health, no more heartburn, reversal of T2D, lower triglycrides, better sleep, better mood, reversal of deppresion, improved mobility, and most importantly, WE"RE NOT DEAD. I started Keto in 2019. I’m still at it with no intention of changing. It took me years, in spite of feeling great and hearing all the evidence to the contrary, to finally get over my fear of fat and the belief that Keto is dangerous. I guess that’s what 40 years of programming from the low fat/meat bad narrative does.

I went keto about three months ago and will never look back at being vegan/vegetarian for two years. The results I’ve experienced in a matter of weeks was unexpected and actually shocking. Because it’s probably the easiest lifestyle change I’ve made in my life. I’m not nearly as hungry, heavy head is going away, exercise is easier and increasing. And my diabetic medication is sitting on the shelf. Oh and I lost forty pounds and regular twenty four hour fasting is not as bad as I thought it would be. I haven’t tried two or three day fasting yet. But I will

I always considered keto and carnivore as a "temporary diet" for me. I lost 100 pounds, then went back to eating 60% carbs. Stupid. Gained 50 pounds back and was sick a lot. Now I'm carnivore again, healthy, and weight is falling off. I'm 60, and plan to stick to keto/carnivore until the end of my life, which I believe will be longer with my current lifestyle.

Yeah, me too. I didn’t gain as much, but I also didn’t raise my carbs that high either. Now I’m trying to dust myself off and get back on the bandwagon. It’s hard to really realize that you can’t eat the way your cravings tell you too, without getting fat and sick.

Dr. Westman, thank you so much for your outstanding discussion on this important topic. It is this type of information which helps us "metabolically challenged" patients push back on our "vegan" cardiologists who want us on a high carb, "plant based" diet. Here is the problem, however. When I tried to have a reasonable talk about the pros and cons of the various diets, my "preventive" (i.e. vegoon) cardiologist first gaslighted me about the dangers of the keto/carnivore diet. Then he wanted me to start on a PCSK9 inhibitor immediately. Then he said he did NOT need to see me anymore because I would not follow his advice. Unfortunately, this is the state of American cardiology in 2024!

Dr. Westman, thank you. This video is fantastic. There is a phenomenol drive that eating animals is immoral, which is quite reasonable, but that doesn't mean it is unhealthy. Give me unprocessed plant protein and fats without the carbohydrates which, due to a lifestyle misstep, my body struggles to metabolise then whoopee. In the meantime I think a meat and fish inclusive low carb diet will do for me.

All I know is that I was a Vegetarian for a number of years and I still have heart desease and HF. AT 76 I went on ,a low carb diet then keto then carnivore occasionally I still add veggies or have a Big salad. But I lost weight, my BP went down, no more palpitations. I no longer have a thyroid (no cancer) and the diet stabilized my thyroid meds. I am having pancreas issues and very very small cyst at the tail. Just need follow thru with MRI in 6 months. Diet for pancrease is a Carb Diet, low fat and NO RED MEAT. I decided after some research to take Bile salts, to break down fats that helps the pancrease and gallbladder and a couple of supplements to help my gallbladder that has also been stressed. I have 2 friends that are Vegans. They are Seniors, they both have CANCER. STAGE 4; they went to Mexico for treatment. I also lost a Vegan doctor who died of Stomach Cancer.

I was 23 when I'd first started keto and lost my period for three months. I realized though that due to the research it was because I did lose weight from inflammation and I was already very thin to begin with, and as I adapted more and more to it my hormones rebalanced and weight started to come back on, my period returned. I also attributed the loss of period to stress given my body wasn't used to this way of eating at first.

Dr. Westman i really appreciate the way you present things, the mere fact that you ask that doctor every year for evidence of any negative thing against the ketogenic diet tells me that you put people first and is continuously seeking knowledge on this diet, even with 25 years experience. while, of course, you will have some biases for the ketogenic diet . I also find that you have some flexibility in some areas of the diet. What i would like to know, I have not seen you address in any of your videos, that after people reverse their type2 diabetes and lose weight, how do they maintain iT? Do they remain for the rest of their lives eating the same way or are they allow to introduce, in moderation, SOME whole foods, like low sugar fruits, and what about vegetables.? I was able to lose 21 lbs from January to end of april on a low carb diet, usual amount of protein and less maybe less fat that i would normally consume, cut out all processed foods and sugars, ( still had some carbs that is not allowed in keto and fruit sparingly consumed , it was not low as a keto die,)together with fasting.I made the error of going for a blood test immediately at the end of the month of fasting in April and my cholesterol went from 208 in December to 216, Tg from 119 to 50, HDL from 52 to 56 and ldl from 132 to 150! I am at the lower end of my bmi with the current weight loss. My AIC went from 5.4 to 5.2. ( My normal diet before that was meat and carbs, less fat, but much more carbs than meat)

I had a relative that had a heart attack and by-pass surgery in the 80's. The doctors told him to go low fat afterwards. He said real food couldn't be bad and just maybe his problem was the three packs of smokes and the box of twinkies he ate daily. He essentially went low carb or maybe even keto without knowing what he was doing and he worked until he was 92 and passed away last year at 103 and was as sharp as ever when he had a fall and went downhill fast. A man before his time.

Went to my doctor and got blood work...hypothyroid, celiac, pre diabetes, anxiety. I told her I was going keto and she was not happy about it. I have lost weight, more energy, food cravings getting less and less, bloating gone, sleeping better and anxiety way down! She herself is probably 40 pounds overweight but dismissive of the diet. I can't wait to go back and show her my results! My Mom went to the same doc and she put her on ozempic. My mom has definitely lost weight but she hasn't changed her eating habits. She was only supposed to be on it 6 months but she has been on it now 18 months. She has lost some serious muscle as well and she is in her 60's. I asked her how long she is going to be on it and she said she was afraid to go off it cause she doesnt want to gain the weight back. I am seriously worried about her but she doesnt want to try keto. I swear its like nature's ozempic without the side effects.

It's really absurd and laughable seeing Dr. Westman with his calm, professional presentation react to these other "doctors" videos with all the wild theatrics and bizarre editing to deceptively grab the viewers' attention. I kind of feel like I am in a fever dream watching the absurdity of other doctors' videos. So much weird extra crap pooped out on the screen, like all those weird subscribe and like button animations. Since so many creators, even so-called educators, have taken this shameful practice, I guess I got used to it and am grateful Dr. Westman points it all out. Sometimes we need someone to criticize this nonsense, status quo is not always ideal... Anyways, great video. Definitely always get a good belly laugh when watching Dr. Westman react to these "doctors".

Raccoon eyes? I've been on a ketogenic diet for almost two years and even forgot I used to get them when I was tired. Used to freak out my significant others it was so bad, gone now. This guy is a joke, present the studies, not this psuedo science nonsense. Reminds me of Readers Digest articles.

This reminds me of a twitch streamer that went on a rant at the mere mention of keto. His raccoon eyes probably would've been improved if he knew the real benefits of keto instead of parroting mainstream ignorance.

I've been carnivore for 5 months and unfortunately I have those black circles under my eyes. I used to have them when on a standard diet, but every time when I changed to a Mediterranean diet they disappeared in about a week. I've been searching the internet for an answer as to why do I have them on carnivore but the only person I've found who's resolved it had folate deficiency. I've been supplementing with folate for 5 days now, no change so far. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing them?

@@jovotszebb367 Interesting! I was doing pretty much the Mediterranean Diet for over a decade prior to ketogenic and still got them like I always did, when tired. I don't know why either, I also have searched and not found anything. Are yours all the time or just when tired?

My Aunt Ruby, My Dad, and My Mom all died at age 67, I'm almost there and although I lost my lower right leg about 4 years ago, God introducing me to fasting and keto has helped me to reverse my type 2 Diabetes, and improve my blood pressure and cholesterol. I'm slow but I can walk a little further without getting as tired as quick as I did when I had my leg. I thank God for the Keto "diet"

It's sad to learn about this diet war. Why can't these different diets & lifestyles not coexist? A whole food plant-based diet, a ketogenic diet, and other diets. Scientists and medics should study and focus on high-risk culprits like ultra-processed foods, transfats, stress, etc.

He’s right! Keto killed the person I was one year ago. Today I’m off my Metformin, my last A1c was 5.2, my HDL went up from 36 to 51, my insulin came down from 41 to 28.5, I’ve lost 70lbs. I feel better at 51 than I felt at 32, when I wasn’t able to have a baby and then got uterine cancer (chance for baby gone), then later was diagnosed with MS. So, if all that is what I get for not being on Keto…well, I think the choice is pretty obvious.

I am 100 lbs lighter because I follow a meat based Keto diet. The big difference is I can sustain Keto. I don’t feel hungry. The weight is staying off. My inflammation has all but gone. I wouldn’t have lasted a week on a plant based diet, I’ve been following a keto diet for nearly 3 years. The extra weight I was carrying would have caused me to be diabetic by now so keto has more then likely given me a much better quality of life.

Hello Eric Westman, Thank you for the great work and for sharing your knowledge, This vegan doctor still doesn't understand!!!! *What counts is the practice of the result, not baseless theory* Knowledge is Power, its practice in your life proves its efficiency or its fragility Seek knowledge tirelessly about how to nourish your body and mind, then put it into practice and you will see the power of dietary change in practice. Unfortunately, a lot of lies are being told at least 100 years ago, and making people increasingly sick, fragile and sad. *Depression, schizophrenia among other brain diseases is a malnourished body, a malnourished body is Depression and Schizophrenia among other brain diseases*

I went almost carnivore, and since then, my cholesterol has dropped from 245 to 206, LDL from 162 to 127, HDLc from 49 to 62 and triglycerides from 200!!! to 84!!!! I also walk 10,000+ steps a day. I'm not sure what did what here, but I feel better than I have in 20 years (I'm 53). I know anecdotal evidence is just that, but come on... we all know this heals us. I don’t understand why these doctors can't see it. They seem more focused on possibilities than on what’s actually happening right now. I’m also down from 264 to 214-all in just four months. I’ve fallen off the rails a couple of times, and the return of piles, bloating, and overall discomfort pushed me right back into whatever I’m doing. Less than 20g of carbs a day, and often less than 5g. Tomorrow I could get run over by a car, wreck my motorcycle-anything could happen. But I’m going to enjoy what’s making me healthy right now.

health risks are overblown - they are confusing transition to fat burning with long term and don't define what a keto diet is. I remember an Australian Dietician who is now a professor, talking years ago about 'the risks' and how it might cause heart problems and his reference was a study where they infused the circulatory system of a dog with fat - to the point of causing arrhythmia. Mmmmm. no really the same as eating fat in context of food is it. I was on the keto diet at the time, and I remember laughing because they were talking about keto 'stink' (crotch), and how its associated with all cause mortality. I was on my way to a rowing event, and I was in ketosis and could power row for hours - my snack was a few macadamias but I thought if I died in a car crash or drowned, it would be a 'keto diet death' LOL

The pros, cons, conflicting info problems with diets is money. along with "research" and "studies". Nobody does research and studies for free. Someone somewhere provides funding for these exercises. Many are corporations or government who are placating political donors with studies to come up with a "scientific" conclusion favorable to their industry and products.

The blue zones hmm people buy their food fresh and local from small circulair farms the soil is not depleted which means the food they eat atleast have the right nutrients and are not poisened by chemicals. Right now most plant foods have perhaps 30 or 40 % of the nutrients they should have and 3 times the sugar they should have. 30 years back i loved green apples with their somewhat bitter and fresh taste now they are so sweet i can t stand them any more .

I was getting worse every year. Went on keto, lost 50 lbs. No more pills, all lab markers were great. Either I am not like everyone else who does keto, or he is wrong in his advice.

My blood work is excellent now and my heart health is way better now and I can go all out Sprint workouts 3 times a week now with weight training. I'm so tired of these wacko vegan peoples BS.
