I want to thank Dr. Westman for his informative critique. In 2016, at 51, I had a stroke. As a scientist and a man of faith, I turned to prayer and found Dr. Berg online. Following his recommendations improved my health. While I appreciate Dr. Westman's assessment and critique, I have found that Dr. Eric Berg's advice has been more beneficial to me. Many doctors have not taken the time to explain my health issues, and it's important to remember that medicine is not an exact science. A good example would be legal advice. Two different lawyers may give similar advice. Which is better? Whatever works.

Scientology is a human trafficking/elder abuse money making/real estate compiling cult that enjoys tax exemption in the US & some other jurisdictions No religion prevents it’s members from viewing the world around them (like here on youtube), or forces members to remain when they disagree with Hubbard “policy”. The only other alternative is to cut ties with their entire scientology family and still be harrased by the “church”. That uncomfortable truth aside, much of Dr Berg’s info is helpful and true. The shame is he and his OT8 wife donate so much of the money they raise off youtube, etc to support an abusive cult. Which is why THEY get to be on youtube and look at the internet. The one thing that bothers me so much about doctors bashing chiropractors is this. Doctors are trained to use a prescription pad and have no real incentive to look for natural remedies. Chiropractors on the other hand are forced to use homeopathic and natural methods. Now, that doesn’t mean there aren’t snake oil salesman out there but I’ll trust most Chiropractors over an MDs any day when it comes to nutrition.
@daitilus7343

For a lot of us, we are dealing with chronic pain and disease, and even marginal improvements from supplements can make all the difference. Chiropractors are helpful in at least identifying what might help. I think MD's are too safety conscious, but I don't blame them as that is the system they are working within. Frankly I am not waiting for someone to do a major trial on a supplement that has little to no profit motive. I'll be dead by then.

I respect Dr. Westman and thinks he makes a good contribution to help people make the big changes but I often feel he wants to overlook some important things as not to deter large groups of people from making the big changes. For example he downplays the importance of organic food because so many of his patients will be too frustrated by affordability issues to then take on the big changes like cutting out sugar and going keto or carnivore. Likewise he downplays the importance of pasture raised meat and eggs. Additionally he downplays the importance and usefulness of MCT oil daily or avoidance of lectins. He has set certain priorities to reach the masses, I feel which is important. I can understand this and set my own priorities because so many of these great functional doctors explain the mechanisms of all these things allowing us to make rational choices for ourselves. Something mainstream doctors never do and I have suffered as a result in past years and that still treat us like stupid children who should just do what they tell us to do. Which is too often the wrong damned thing to do.

Do we have the vast studies that we do on some pharmacological treatments (which are also paid for by those who benefit the most)? Maybe not but we have enough info for SOME of us to consider them as options. Natto has been used probably longer than aspirin. There is also scientific data around vitamins C and E for the plaque reduction etc. I have textbooks that were edited by Lester Packer, and there is a lot of data just in those books. The idea as well that we dont need vitamin C on low carb / keto / carnivore due to lower ROS production, and hence less need for vitamin C is partly correct because indeed ROS is lowered as inflammation is also lowered, and BHB is itself a hydroxyl radical scavenger, but the idea that we dont therefore need vitamin C limits its function to only an antioxidant. Truth is Ascorbic acid is involved in so many reactions and is far much more than an antioxidant. yeah, but doctors & researchers claim that statins will reduce plaque. AND claim that calcified plaque is bad. Calcified plaque is stable, less risk of rupture & blood clots - the real problem. But, then whatabout calcium channel blockers. and what really happens with blood pressure and calcification?

You make some very good points. I, for one, don't care for hard calcium or plaque. I don't consider calcification healing. And yes, while stable, it still narrows the arteries and makes them less pliable. You want pliable arteries for nice blood pressure. I, for one, am using the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol for reversing my CAC and have successfully done it as verified by CAC. So far, 30% in 20 months.

I have no way on knowing what it does for my arteries but by lowering my BP I think it helps prevent some of the stress on arterial walls therefore preventing one of the ways damage happens, what do you think?

No aspirin for my dad. My father is 97 with 5 stents we could have avoided. He takes no medications since getting the stents. No statins , no blood thinners, no blood pressure meds . He’s got lots of arteriosclerosis in his fingers but it doesn’t cause any on going symptoms . Occasionally he gets pain but it might be from using a pestle and mortar. He has diabetes and his A1c was 9.3 , Ten years ago. Got it down to 6.3 using low carb diet. His only med is 250-500 mg of topical metformin cream . He is finally experiencing fluid retention but only takes parsley juice and other natural remedies . He very agile , walks 3-4 x a day. He dresses and cooks his own eggs but has gotten short term memory loss the last 2 years. Otherwise he’s easy to manage . We have hard core strategies that don’t require pharmaceuticals. He’s testimony. All his siblings passed and his father only made it to 40 . His mom 70. So it’s clearly not genetic . Some siblings had diabetes and macular degeneration. He was starting to get those eye symptoms but it’s all stopped. No progression of any diseases . No fear of germs . He recently had a carotid ultrasound and his carotid age was given at 85. No calcium supplements but his few supplements are based on organ meats and concentrated veg herbs. He’s been taking Serranatto and nattokinase for 10 years , cycles Berberine , daily Curcumin , a little apple cider vinegar in 3 Oz water right before a meal. Eating is finished 3 hours before laying down. No pills to swallow except tiny capsule of alpha lipoic acid and Berberine . His glucose and neuropathy is manageable with the last two. He sleeps in complete darkness . He Eats stews and gets potassium from walnut apricot compote , small avocado daily but also cycle 1oz of cod liver , or liverwurst every other day. Be careful of pill dysphasia. We avoid reflux by making stews . He only has 5 teeth .

When I realized my liver enzyme’s were out of wack I immediately stopped taking the anti-cholesterol drugs. I started taking 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at lunch. What I found is nice and gives me an energy boost in the quantities. I’m taking to the blood sugar. Mine has always ran up near the top but it never goes over to make me prediabetic. But if your arteries are that clogged up, I would try the thousand milligrams per day and the reason you’re probably getting the flush is because it’ll take a while to clear all that cholesterol out of your veins. Plus I would stay at 1,000 mg for perhaps 3 months before increasing. Were your arteries checked with a endoscope ? You can have those Artery stent. But for people that do that and don’t change their diet the fat grows through the voids of the stent and then you’re right back to where you started from.. but since yours aren’t closed, I would definitely look at the niacin along with a medium walk to start with and try to do the work and you might experience flushing for maybe even six months after a week or two you’ll get to the point that it won’t bother you. But my back ground was in manufacturing. Over I made many of the devices they now use. I have no medical background. I’m just a conscientious observer. A guy in the 70’s told me about niacin which he had taken for 35 years at that point. I always remembered what he told me at the time I was in my 30s. But when I started having problems with my liver, I came back to that. and for 15 years, my cardiovascular system is perfect now and I have no doubt that cholesterol was building up in my veins before hand. But the niacin shouldn’t affect your sugar. You might possibly have prediabetes, but if your A1c checks out then I wouldn’t worry about it.. an I’m walking an average of 5 to 7 miles per day because I have eight dogs. But since your arteries are clogged as much as they are, you need to start slow until you feel yourself getting stronger. I’m 70 now. I still do my own yard work, I have 4 separate or metal trees that are 12 feet tall. Plus 12 ornamental bushes. Luckily I only have to do the bushes and trees about once a month, but it requires a ladder and an extension hedger in order to keep them trimmed up. So I climb 6 and 8 ft ladder to do eaves thing. But I feel great. I used a compounder version of I was epic to lose my weight. It’s the same formula without the diabetes medicine.. today I’ve lost about 50 pounds. So I’m at 158 and I’m 5’ 7. I can’t believe how much better I feel. But for you I would clear up your cholesterol before if you need weight loss. The compound run about 290 a month. The I Ozempic is $1000 a month.. I hope this helps. But even when I was 208 my cholesterol remains at 159. So I believe in the niacin. But one thing for the compound, it really changed my diet for eating all the bad things to more about eating the things that are good for you. My biggest problem was I love sugar meat and potatoes. I hope this helps. But I believe you are the best person to keep up with your own health and always consult your doctor. 6,000 mg is a lot. That is the only thing I have kept from my doctor. That is the quantity.

Dr. Westman, thank you for you video and your calm approach. At 64, I have often been approached by people commenting that I am "in great shape" or "It's clear that you work out." I do resistance training 2-3 times per week for about two hours. I also hike and walk regularly. I recently had a CAC CT scan and my score was 7. It seems that any score over 0 is logarithmically worse than 0, but a change from 1 to 2 is linear. Perhaps it is just a blast to my ego to have even a score of 7. I will continue eating low carb/paleo, exercising, getting good sleep and staying off pharmaceuticals. I have done a lot of research and have found that vitamin K2 MK-7 can prevent the growth or increase of calcified plaque. Is there any evidence for reversing and removal of calcified plaque once it has formed?

Thanks very much for your thoughts and advice. After a heart attack 10 years ago at age 46 I have really made big changes to my lifestyle. Reduced weight, exercise, meditation and probably hugely important - stopped eating as much sugar (all forms), carbs as I can with complete cessation of ultra processed foods. I take a baby aspirin and statin daily but am rather concerned about the long term use and questionable benefits after my major lifestyle changes. One of the things that worries me is how easily I bruise now. Also, if I cut myself the blood flows like water and takes a while to clot and stop. I'm interested to know more about natto and whether that can be a good alternative to the aspirin I take particularly with the side benefits of reducing the already established hard plaque. A deep dive video just based on natto (natural (food), commercial supplement, pharmaceutical grade) would be greatly appreciated if you have time!

I had been low carb for 1 year when the test was done in 2022 at age 65 so it wasn't related to going low carb diet. My LDL was 200 before starting low carb (which was Oct 2021), then increased to 250 and then after that to 300. My GP has told me that I am at a high risk of developing heart disease and said you know I want you on a statin. I am now metabolically healthy. I have done the various CVD risk calculators and I think the worst result said that there was a 4% possibility of me having a heart issues within the next 10 years. I've told both of them that I've looked into this and listened to doctors (not just regular people) on the internet and have decided not to take a statin. I'm glad I now have a benchmark.

@@SET12DSP congratulations on reducing your CAC! That said, the low HDL and relatively high triglycerides is still a concern. This is where the carnivore, low carb and keto diets help many. You did not mention your BMI and if it is higher than 25 then you may have an adipose (lipid, fat) tissue metabolic concern. The diets can help with that. While inflammation is decreasing with your protocol soft plaque that does not show up in a CAC can still be a concern.

@susanbeever5708 Thank you, Susan, we both are taking different approaches, and I believe there's more than one way to do the job. I'm not really concerned about cholesterol because I'm building what I call an endothelial shield 🛡 with the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol very nicely. I'm not in the least concerned about triglycerides or bmi as a bit of extra weight can be beneficial if something happens, but with the improvements of my health overall I feel confident I have a good chance of making my 90's when no man in my family ever has. I take K2-MK7 and D3 myself with dosing recommendations by Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. I take 1200mcg of K2-MK7 2x per day along with 5000i.u of D3. I am also using 800mg of magnesium glycinate per day as Dr Thomas Levy says when magnesium is up, calcium is down. I had a CAC with contrast with no mention of any plague burden seen. In fact, I was considered for a Watchman, but upon examination, it was decided I had no need for it. I was a former vegan and now mostly Keto grain and sugar-free but not necessarily religious about it. The Linus Pauling Heart Protocol does a lot more than clean and repair my arteries successfully. My skin is the best it's been in 50 years. The largest organ of the body, and if that's good... then what's under it is likely healthy, too.

I tried a few of his nostrums with limited/no results. Still, got me going well on the keto diet. Got to come up with consistent content eh?!? I told my cardio I was sticking to nattokinase instead of aspirin, as I was already taking it for purported spike protein degradation, and nattokinase and aspirin aren't recommended to be taken together . He (quite honestly) said he couldn't recommend it because of the lack of blah blah studies, but "It's your body, you do what you want." I said that's what I plan to do. Afib > risk of stroke. As far as I know nattokinase has proven fibrin / clot dissolving action whereas aspirin primarily prevents clot formation? Everything I see says K-2 has no toxicity even at extremely high doses. I plan to keep taking that also, and at higher doses. I wonder if Dr Westman had the same skepticism regarding lack of long term studies when to came to the jab?

The problem with getting what you need from food is that our soils are over farmed without rotating crops, so many nutrients that used to be there are gone or less than they would be if farmed traditionally, not to mention what the pesticides and herbicides are doing to our cells. And what the RDA is, is often a bare minimum. MDs don’t study this sufficiently and rely on “normal” ranges. What is normal for you may not work for me.

There is CAC which is the scan and also CTA which is a scan with contrast dye. I've heard that the radiation used to be very high but is now much lower. I just did a search and found this pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov › 35076784: "The radiation exposure from CCTA has been considerably reduced over the last ten years by almost 2.5 folds. The mean radiation dose from the newer generation CT used in 2019 was significantly lower than that of the single-source CT in 2010 (2.88 ± 0.85 mSv vs. 7.15 ± 3.4 mSv, p < 0.001)."

You could get a CIMT scan, its ultrasound, and no radiation involved. The newest versions of CAC scanners have 10x less radiation involved. I heard a guy on u-tube who has had 26 CAC's done. I have had 3 myself, so I'm not too concerned.

MD doctors will be relegated to surgery as people realize that the MD medical education system is geared for pharmaceutical profits. We will always need surgery but we are far better off without pharmaceuticals. Doctors that insist on “proven science” never acknowledge that “studies” are bought and paid for by corporate and government entities that are dependent on drug profits on products that they make or approve. The studies needed will never be done because they hurt the medical industrial complex. Therefore, people like Dr. Berg are relegated to do the best research possible based on what is available to them. I for one am grateful for people like Dr. Berg who are willing to explore other options until the medical industrial complex is conquered.

To be fair trying to get funding for something that may interfere with big pharmer's profits might not get the look in that it may deserve. I do find this point a little disingenuous at times. It's a bit like, if you never look you'll never find out so it just goes around and around. Edit to say that small companies simply don't have the funds to be able to jump though all of the fda's hoops, like big pharmer can. That's the main reason for smaller companies to go down that path. @pattyl7244 Sorry to butt in, Patty . My understanding is that according to the studies in every country, calcium supplements always decrease your life span, while dietary calcium does not. Go to pub med with a couple of search terms and you can learn all you need to know- far more than the doctors we used to think were reliable for nutritional information. You will discover that in order to avoid calcium in the arteries the current thinking is that we need to take D3 combined with K2( not regular Vitamin K), and specifically we want MK7 type of K2. The Japanese get it through eating natto- a fermented soybean product- and increasing fermented foods like sauerkraut and Jarlsberg cheese ( and other fermented cheeses), for example, do give us some K2 ( it’s also in red meat). Magnesium is also recommended in the regimen. I can’t give you dosages but you should have enough info to research it based on your own labs. Also, get some natural vitamin D by going out in the morning sun. There have been lots of studies showing that huge doses Of Vitamin D ( I saw one on pub med with 50,000 iu per day for a year with no toxic effects!) However, no one needs to go there! Personally I’m taking 40,000-50,000 per week. I’m due for bloodwork to see if my level has increased from 20 which is quite low. Here in the US we want our Vit D level to be somewhere between 40-100 for best immunity to viruses, especially Covid. 2 yrs ago I had a Coronary Calcium Score of Zero. Unfortunately that doesn’t tell me I’m out of danger since soft plaque isn’t measured in that test and is the most unstable type. But looked at with my enviable triglycerides of 44 ( I’ve been keto since 2019), I feel pretty safe. Just enjoy cheese and full fat yogurt and grass fed Irish butter. Stay off the calcium supplements! Good luck. I’m not in the medical field, by the way- just addicted to nutrition videos and podcasts. I’m the same age as you are and also have newly diagnosed osteoporosis- I will never get injections to increase bone density- which doesn’t strengthen bones . Stress your bones by lifting weights. Check out Dr Ken Berry’s video on osteoporosis before you do anything.

You can get plenty of calcium in the diet. I would not take calcium in supplement form due to increased incidence of heart attacks or strokes in a recent study, so much so that they had to cut the study short. Protein in diet is important (not protein powders), plus healthy fats. Avoid processed seed oils, avoid all inflammatory foods and drinks completely. Stop smoking, avoid alcohol, preferably no coffee. Walk after meals, up to 30 minutes each. Optimize daily Vitamin D3,(fat soluble) and cofactors magnesium bisglycinate and Vitamin K2 (fat soluble). These will move dietary calcium from arteries to the bones. Those black box arthritis drugs like Fosamax will increase risk of femur fractures and jaw necrosis, not helping with bone health at all.

You mention studies, but you failed to mention if such studies were scientific or epidemiological. That matters. Everyone should know that there is no science in epidemiology. Just guess work. Its just opinion. It is a study of associations only. Its used the give those studying a hypothesis. And then they can test using science, with RCTs, and get to the answer.

Dr Eric, aspirin therapy is used primarily for its thrombolic properties. The acidity of the aspirin is very harsh. 4 grams of salmon oil is also thrombolic. Salmon oil raises your HDL cholesterol and is widely known to reduce inflammation especially in arthritis. Not to mention the beneficial properties of skin hair and nail brain Etcetera. You could be grounded in studies that are funded by many many companies and researchers that are not independent. But if you understand the science behind properties of each substance, you have a better idea of its application. I agree with a little bit of what you say as well as the other doctor however, we were told by doctors like you for years based off of published medical studies and science and clinical trials that we need to follow a diet that has allowed the United States to lead the world in cardiovascular disease. A lot of the public started to become Wise and anecdotally rely on their own methods as have been done for centuries. Many people thousands of years ago did not have clinical studies and knew that certain things benefited them. So don't be so close minded is my suggestion to anecdotal benefits. Granted you are in a system where you can't recommend certain things because you are bound by laws that govern so. This is why peptide research and medicine has not become mainstream. Based on who controls the narrative of what they want the public to know.

And all put side by side in this money craving, money crazy and sometimes everything is medicine society, I'll go for "preventive" any day.
