Will Northern Ireland have a government again?

So a deal is done, but how did we get here?
Before Brexit, Northern Ireland and Great Britain shared the same trade rules as the Republic of Ireland. No trade borders between any of them.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But leaving the EU meant a whole new agreement was needed for goods travelling across the borders.
Last night, DUP leaders debated a new deal focused on concessions made in Westminster, not by the European Union. Five hours of talks later - they said ‘yes’.
After almost two years Northern Ireland might have a government again.

The first thing the public want is to STOP PAYING MPs who wont go to work. Its that simple, the choice we all have is go to work and get paid or don't go and don't get paid. Once these egoist have to find their own money to pay their own Bills, they might focus on the duty of their EMPLOYMENT. The PUBLIC are sick and tired of paying people who don't provide the service they are paid too.

It's time for Unionists to start taking a hard look at their identity. If they claim a right to the land and a right to remain there, then its time they start calling themselves Irish and forget all the rubbish about being part of the UK. A United Ireland would be an Ireland for all. The Republic is no longer as doggedly Catholic as it once was, and it poses no threat to Protestants. Likewise, Sinn Fein are socialists and have nothing to do with religion anymore. we need to grow up and move on and get this country on track together.

The way Jamie Bryson speaks is very reminiscent of the rhetoric of the Unionists under the late Reverend Ian Paisley. In other words, he sounds like a relic of a bygone age and just goes to show how out of touch the Unionists are. I thought Alex Kane spoke well, but I don't agree with him regarding the timing of the unification of Ireland. It is going to happen sooner than he thinks. Thanks in part to Brexit, or more specifically, the legacy of it, the situation of Northern Ireland with one foot in and foot out of both the UK and the EU is unsustainable. The only real solution is for Northern Ireland to unify with Ireland. Support for that to happen has been steadily growing in Northern Ireland long before Brexit anyway. The UK voice in the support of Ukraine in recovering the Russian annexed territories, especially Crimea will be all the stronger if the UK does away with its own annexed territory of another country.

It's an absolute disgrace that the British government has negotiated with a minority party from Northern Ireland. Is it any wonder that Nationalists and Catholics feel discriminated against. This would not have happened in either the Welsh or Scottish assemblies. These people should have had their salaries withdrawn until the Northern Ireland assembly was properly composed. Then the British government could have negotiated with the properly constituted representatives of the assembly. What happens next time? More negotiations with minority parties?

The only reason that the UK is clinging to NI is because of nostalgia or a bygone empire. NI is effectively the last major British colony. Many of the Brits who are loudly and rightfully screaming "Free Palestine", should also clamor for the reunification and the end of centuries of occupation, humiliation and discrimination of Ireland. Why should the descendants of colons unwilling to adapt to their birthplace and integrate. or give up their privileges be accommodated?

The entire Good Friday Agreement was designed to allow for a framework towards reunification if there is a majority consensus for it in Northern Ireland - there isn't. The issue isn't with the Irish but rather with the dwindling British majority in Northern Ireland, the worst of whom hate the growing Irish minority there, leading to slogans such KAI (kill all Irish) in some housing estates. The larger jurisdiction on the island consists of 26 out of the 32 counties, and for all its faults, the people there are not disunited, in any real sense, although there isn't as much mixing between white, black and Asian Irish as ideally there could be.

England has no democratic authority to do anything. Only the British government in Westminster has that. All of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have their own internal governments and in the case of Scotland there was a referendum in 2014 in regard to its becoming an independent country.

There is the opportunity for the voters of Northern Ireland to be the tip of the spear and agree to the concept of voting for representatives who are capable of forming a government to which they not held hostage. If they persist with the status quo, that's what they'll be stuck with, so have only themselves to blame :-)

Maybe your just not the brightest spark🙄 l will keep it simple to help you understand, if you live in Scotland you could be classed as Scottish, if you lived in Wales you could be classed as Welsh, if you lived in England you could be classed as English , if you lived in Northern Ireland you could be classed as Irish or Northern Irish, now these four nations collectively are joint and come under the banner of the United Kingdom , the flag of the combined United Kingdom is the Union Flag 🇬🇧 hence why inhabitants of each of these four nations may "march around with a union jack" and as for the UK a failing nation I think you will find it's a much superior nation in many ways ( complete with its own air force and navy) compared to the likes of the republic of Ireland which is wholly dependant on the European Union to keep afloat, perhaps the above could be a few of the reasons why so many Republic of Ireland citizens move to the UK including for better lifestyle and career prospects and why Northern Ireland Unionists want to remain tied to the UK. Hope you now have a broader mind focus and a better understanding. 😉🇬🇧

@@dmcg6074 haven't they already pronounced that they will represent all the people of Northern Ireland without discriminating. It's unfortunate that Unionists/Loyalists didn't do that rather than create an apartheid state which led to the troubles. Sinn Fein are still entitled to aspire to achieving a United Ireland and have a mandate from the electorate to pursue that goal while Unionists have a mandate to preserve the Union and have been striving for that cause too. That's democracy and when the referenda on unity eventually happen the people from both North and South will have their democratic choice. That day is approaching more rapidly because of the divisive nature of Brexit which Unionists supported. Unionists thought that Brexit would ensure their place within the Union and further separate North & South and they celebrated the leave result despite the fact that the majority in Northern Ireland wished to remain. They even pursued a hard Brexit opposing the wishes of the electorate in Northern Ireland. They shot themselves in the foot and Sinn Fein capitalised as any astute political party would. If the Northern Ireland Assembly gets underway with a Sinn Fein First Minister Sinn Fein will be entitled to celebrate but unfortunately I foresee some more stumbling blocks ahead when the small print in the amended Windsor Framework deal proves unpalatable to some staunch Unionists.
