Been told you have shoulder bursitis? Wonder if shoulder bursitis will ever heal?
Mariana had a bout of severe shoulder pain in 2002. She was told she had bursitis that would be with her forever. She was told she would just have to rest her shoulder and hope the bursitis would go away on its own - if ever.
After years of physical therapy in the U.S. and Sweden, her shoulder bursitis wasn’t better. She was doing hours of bursitis exercises and nothing was helping. Multiple MRIs didn’t give any more useful information.
She came to Upright Health to see if strength and mobility training could help her restore her shoulder health. Within months, her shoulder was finally feeling better.

This was so helpful to listen to someone else with the same experiences of going to different orthopedists, chiropractors, and physical therapists for years. I have been given totally opposite diagnoses of MRI readings, multiple steroid injections, and on and on. This gives me hope!

This person's account echos what I've endured. MRI, physicians & PT. All inconclusive, the exercises that never helped, the what-if's, nothing concrete as far as direction and solutions let alone root cause of the impingement syndrome. Thank you Matt, I've started a few of the exercises (Dumb bell row, etc.), and gained some relief. I plan on formally starting your program dealing with shoulder impingement as i agree w/your philosophy (for certain people conditions and perspective) makes sense. Thank you!

I had a SLAP repair in 2002 and my shoulder has been mostly OK until last year when I played basketball and went up for a rebound and over reached. Mri showed subacromial bursitis and partial supraspinatus tear and tendinosis. I used to be able to sleep on my right side with no problems but now I can't. Some days the pain is so bad that it affects my mood and I feel completely crippled even trying to do basic everyday things. On these days I just need to go to bed as this provides the most, and quickest, relief. Surgeon told me to get a cortisone shot and do physio. Which I have done. The cortisone did nothing for me and physio provides very minor, temporary relief. I was told a lot of the issue is posture related with forward head posture so I'm working on that. I have a 2 and a half year old so picking her up a lot even if I try and put most of the weight on my left side triggers it. The theraband rotator cuff exercises help a bit but for me the biggest improvement I've noticed is doing 3 to 4 sets of between 10 to 16 reps of bent over dumbbell rows with about 17kg dumbbell. The following days after doing this my shoulder feels 100% normal. Even seated rows don't help as much as the bent over rows. Probably as the range of motion is greater with the bent over single arm rows. Another big help is flat barbell bench press. Not crazy weight and I make sure to warm up properly first and aim for reps over weight. It's been about 1.5 years now living with bursitis and my concern is that I will have to live with this my whole life. I am a pianist and this injury has impacted my playing a lot. I'm sick and tired of going to surgeons, paying them hundreds of dollars only to be told to do a physio programme or that surgery is not an option in a dismissive and arrogant way for 5 minutes of their time. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

This sounds identical to my story but now the rotator cuff is feeling 90% better my scapulothoracic area is inflamed and that's where it started for me it felt like something was trapped between shoulder blade and rib cage and my doctor turned around and said there's no such thing as bursitis in that area, safe to say she's no longer my doctor

My dull aching sensation is felt in between left shoulder blades, at times once a month I feel a crack followed by an almighty sharp pain. My left arm creaks and crunches when I left it. Pain is felt slowly as something is pressed against my back, like the back of a high chair. Instant relief comes from sleeping on opposite side or sitting on a stool, or going for a walk or run. I have had this pain slowly getting worser and more pronounced over a stretch of 9 years. Now I'm also getting weakness in hips especially when I'm sitting. Doctors have not found the cause.

I finally found out I have bursitis today. I've had it for 9 months now. Exercise does make a difference because for almost 2 months I had no pain till I stopped exercises and lifted heavy bags and my camera overhead and then one day I did overhead stretches while keeping my shoulders down and back. Biggg mistake. I had horrible burning and numbness. It's better now since I've been massaging my deltoid and around the shoulder and resting and icing. My posture seems to contribute to it though.
@saossurvive
@saossurvive 2 жыл бұрын
First thing my doctor said when I was diagnosed was that I had terrible posture. It's definitely a factor. You don't want it to freeze up, I'd try to correct your posture and keep moving that joint (not forcefully, of course), but just doing that has helped me find a little bit of relief... I'll take it. Also, cold compress is great!

I've had an impinged shoulder for 8 months which started when I started a weight lifting programme after a long period away from weight training. For the first two months my shoulder got steadily worse so saw a PT which helped but also realised for my shoulder to get better I needed to listen to my body better. I had a break from weights for two months which helped but pain was still there. So went back to the gym and tried variety of stretches and exercises to see which appeared to work best. One thing I found is not to try and avoid pain but use it to guide you and some pains are doing good rather than bad. Strangely I found heavy shrugs relieved pain in my shoulder, I also stretch my shoulder using a rubber band throughout my workouts and days off which help. For me what has helped is exercising all muscles around the shoulder especially the back delts which tend to be missed and using heavy weights on some exercises. In short if you want your shoulder to get better you need to exercise and stretch, listen to your body and what it's telling you. I feel my shoulder is now healing which was not the feeling I had 4 months ago.

@@fleadoggreen9062my shoulder got 100% better, but I found putting any heavy load on the shoulder with pressing exercises made pain come back. It got so bad ended up with bursitis and bicep tendonitis. I had ignored my own advice. So took a few months off and now have shorter workouts do pull - ups, cable and bent over rows, landmines, bent over laterals, shrugs (slow squeezing shoulder blades together), pull-ups, cable stretches, scapula exercises. No problems with those and try to keep good form, still try to increase weight tho. Avoid bench press, military press. Close grip press dumbbells on bench seems okay. I've probably got permanent shoulder injury.

@@GensetExpert I think I've always had an issue with my left shoulder. Even as a teenager every now and again I would have twinges, but it would go away with training. As I've got older it hasn't gone away. I've noticed that when I've got my left shoulder under load with heavy presses the shoulder just drops. Strengthening mid back muscles and back delta seems to help a bit, but I still need to be wary of impingement. It creeps up on you and if inflammation sets in then it just gets worse, and inflammation can take weeks if not months to settle down.. So you just have to monitor, don't over train and avoid the exercises that aggravate it.

This sounds just like me!!! However I've had pain for about 8 years now. Ortho doc saying it's posture related. 2 attempts with physiotherapy. MRI and US showed bilateral shoulder bursitis with tendinosis of rotator cuff tendons. Muscle evaluation showed good back and postural strength. Nothing new came from experiences. If I sleep on my side poorly for one night, I can be sure that I will have a good week of radiating pain down into my hand. Kind of just accepted that this is gonna happen here and there throughout life. I just hope to be able to throw ball with my kid when I'm older haha

Don't give up. It's very important to combine PT exercises with daily stretches, and against pain, regular cooling with ice packs. Mobility (but not over-using) is the key to improvement, because an immobile shoulder means "petrification" of the negative conditions. In between the exercises, rest is important. Also, see the shoulder exercises of "Bob & Brad", and "Motivational Doc, Dr. Alan Mandell" on KZbin.

The pain went, as they said it would, after about six months and I was just left with a lot of restricted movement. I began the exercises again about a year and a half later and this time it worked - my shoulder has now regained about 90% of full movement. There is a little bit of discomfort now and again but nothing too bad.

You can always try xray too if mri is too costly for you. I knew that xray would not show any nerve problems because I was having numbness so that's why I decided to do mri. Turns out I have bursitis and its aggravated from lifting heavy stuff, my posture and using my hand alot. Hope you find relief. Exercise does not 'cure ' everything... this video wasn't really helpful beyond 'get a second opinion' cross your fingers and maybe it'll go away if it's Not degenerative... many people's pain never stops and never will from disease process

Mariana seems too young to have a really bad shoulder ache. Is she an athlete? Was she in a crash? What brought on her shoulder condition for such a long time. Video interview does not say. She only says that "She woke up one morning and her shoulder ached" pretty bad.

I'm 39 and I've just been diagnosed with chronic bi-lateral subacromial bursitis. I have been suffering with the symptoms for over 12 years. I've had rotator cuff surgery on the left shoulder, 15 years ago. It seems I had bursitis at that time, as my rehab from the surgery didn't work. The right shoulder soon got bad, probably due to compensating for the left. Up until last week, all scans were apparently clear, despite me knowing for sure there was some kind of impingement going on. I have muscle wastage in both shoulders and have extremely skinny arms. My back is also constantly painful as I can't do back strengthening exercises, due to my painful shoulders. Any shoulder exercises I've tried become too painful after a few days. I've lost years of my life to this condition and I have suicidal ideation. I've been unable to work for years, due to this and problems I have with my pelvis. Now I have to wait months to see a specialist., who is probably going to want to give me a steroid injection. I've had numerous steroid injections in my shoulders already and I had a massive allergic reaction to the last one. I'm so depressed. I'm trapped in my body.

Yeah should've shown the exercises that she's done that helped her, this video was a little stretched out I think.. I have bursitis suddenly now 8 months no clue where it came from and saw a physiotherapist for exercises I don't think it's helped much, I still get intense pain at the corner levels of the stretch and rotation of the shoulder, i can't even hold my hands behind my back, cannot scratch my back at all anymore, pain when I lift my pants up, it's ridiculous.. I am trying acupuncture now for the next 3 weeks to see if that helps, I'm going to do whatever I can but tbh I don't see it going away because it's there and if these exercises or natural ways of healing don't work I have no choice but to go to cortisone injections as last resort

🔥 it BURNS! It doesn’t go away permanently. Live w/ it or try surgery. My shoulder 🔥 burns 🥵- 1st Doc was correct....never goes away. My 1st ‘episode’ in 1990, hospital, thought I broke my shoulder somehow. Afterwards, older nurse said, “You have bursitis & only non movement of shoulder joint will make it better.” Now 2019 & STILL acts up w/🔥 BURNING! Some days better than others. It’ll be good for 7 or 8 months then🔥! Suffer through it and keep immobile. Drink tons of water, pop the pills. Ya move it, ya aggregate it! 🔥

If you don’t move your shoulder. It will get worse
@majorpayne5289
@majorpayne5289 2 жыл бұрын
@@John-kv1xz well, I understand your way of thinking, however, the bursa “sack” must be allowed time to “fill” again with “lube”, if you will. In mine and many other cases, the longer one can keep it immobile the quicker it rebounds w/ little pain when you’re forced to move it. Mind you, I’m no doctor but in my case the older nurse that I spoke w/ in ‘90 was correct. (See my original comment) I’ve delt w/ it for 30 yrs… just my 2¢.
