Will Smith's *career* would be over if he cheated on his wife *with his 20 yo daughters friend* . Just let that sink in. He would have been canceled over a scandal like that. Instead, she is sitting front row center at the oscars thinking she should be offended over an ignorable joke.

I don't care WHO he is. Will Smith should have been kicked out of the place immediately. You don't act like that. Period! Let's be clear. What Chris Rock did might have been hurtful and in poor taste. But it was LEGAL. What Will Smith did was a violent, profane, prosecutable ASSAULT! Talk with people. Don't hit them. They should have mailed him his Oscar. And for all you who think he was justified in reacting to a joke like that with violence, consider this. There's a clip out there of a younger Will Smith on the Arsenio Hall Show where he makes a bald joke about one of the members of Arsenio's band, who happened to have alopecia. When some in the audience groaned their disapproval, as if to say "dude, that was mean," he glared at them and said something to the effect of "Relax! It's just a joke."

My observations, and I know this from being in a relationship with a controlling narcissist, is Will Smith's honest initial reaction was laughter. It was not until he turned to his wife and saw her disapproval, that he knew if he did not do something, he would be in for a fight at home. It was then he had to put aside his normal self, claim he did was he did out of love ( control is not true love ) and take it out on Chris. You then see Will Smith later in the evening crying so much - this is also showing imo he knows what he did was out of character. We all know she has admitted to being a narcissist, she cheated on Will, and has power over him. This is much deeper than him simply getting mad and slapping Chris Rock.

Absolutely nailed it. That was basically a message from Jada to Chris through Will. But Will is a grown man and does things willingly and of his own accord. That was his decision to act like an irresponsible piece of crap. Yea, so he made a joke about your wife. Be the bigger man and (like a wise news-anchor said about the situation) use your words, Will. You don't go and hit a defenseless human being that's not a threat. Damn, Will, what the hell?

Hoda Kotb from the Today Show said she had an interview with Will where he said he felt helpless when he was little because his dad beat his mom. Maybe he’s overprotective of Jada, and has total issues about exerting his power now because he can. Having said that, he was so wrong to do that. Strength comes from controlling your emotions and keeping it civil. It’s very real There’s a history of relationship issues and healing and pain between Jada and Will, on top of Jada experiencing health issues, and I can empathize with Will losing his composure and being triggered to the point of blind rage. There were no chaperones to hold him back, when this could have been avoided by scanning what Chris Rock was gonna say. What’s sad is that ultimately, it’s of no consequence to comedians for you not to like their joke. It’s what they’re paid to do. It’s not Chris Rock’s responsibility to manage Will or Jada’s happiness or health. He can only prepare for the potential reaction, which was clearly not properly done prior to hitting the stage, possibly because this was ad-lib and written or thought of on the fly. I’m sure both parties regret ruining the entire event for all the other winners. Will needs professional help. Mental health needs to stop being taboo and procrastinated on. It’s wild that Will is a grown ass man acting like a child on the most important night of all these filmmakers lives and ruin it for everybody. This is no different than Kanye’s outburst during Taylor’s speech. It’s a clear lack of consideration for everyone around you.

GI Jane is a Bad A$$...I can speak from experience dealing with my own illness. I guess comedians cant work or have roasts any more because people are way to sensitive these days...Because we demand freedom of speech, we have to know people will say things, but we have to keep control of ourself. I believe words are words, its the intent behind the words that matter and he wasn't doing it with bad intent. I believe in sticking up for your family, but to sucker punch someone in the face live on air is un called for. He needed to ask Chris in to a private area and spoke to him about it. I always thought of Will as not only a great actor but a very likeable personality. He always seemed so chilled and funny in public interviews. I no longer view him in that light, unfortunately. I was shown that clip this morning, without warning, and I honestly never want to see it again. Seeing a man turn so swiftly, in anger, and unpredictably hit another (far smaller than himself) like that turned my stomach and was an extreme reaction to a joke which was not the worst thing I have ever heard; we have to put things into context. It makes me question what Will is like behind closed doors if he can react so aggressively in front of so many without thinking about the consequences of his actions. I felt sorry for Chris Rock most of all, not Will's wife (as I may have done otherwise), and felt that his composure and professional response totally outclassed Smith's outburst. Had Smith and his wife calmly got up and walked out or released a public statement today stating their disapproval of Rock's comments and requesting a public apology, I may have felt sympathy towards them. It would have shown far more decorum on their part. That stated, I do find myself questioning the realness of it all - why did Rock not press charges? (I would have) Will's Oscar will forever be tainted. All the years of hard work and he smears his moment like that. What a fool.
