It's why when I completed "Andor", I told everyone I tried to talk into watching it who was suffering from recent Disney+ shortcomings, "This show is like an HBO show, not Disney, TRUST ME".

@dh1148ify No, Acolyte was absolutely terrible. It wasted a good cast with a nonsensical plot and terrible dialogue and somehow looked terrible despite its budget. Disney really does a great job lately of making Jedi look ridiculous and just downgrading their overall mystique.

@@DaftRabbit09 we didn't watch the same show. You sound like you were trying not to give it a chance. Idk why some fans are so offended at the idea (Lucas' original idea btw) that the Jedi were a misguided cult with too much power. It's like, always been an underlying theme of why they had gone "extinct" as it were told in the OT, and then demonstrated in the PT. This theme that the Jedi are flawed only ever didn't exist in the minds of children that just didn't get it yet. Anyway, glad we agree on Andor though. Spectacular show, the prison arc was so good.

Your "Star Wars Superheroes" comment hit home for me. Even as a kid, Luke learning to wield a lightsaber in a few lessons didn't track. I'm 57, I grew up with this story! Lately, I'm playing the SW D6 RPG, and it has hammered home to me how we only see the absolutely best and strongest Jedi. There is a huge untapped potential in the "becoming" story, something we all love. (Basically, a starting Force wielder is really weak in the game, and needs many, many sessions to be able to do even simple things with their powers). Sure, stopping spaceships in flight is visually cool, but only 3-4 Jedi Masters have the juice to do it. Using any Jedi, even a padawan, as an unstoppable juggernaut is just superheroing your plot. I grew up with Goonies, too! Let's hope they pull it off :)

I am 48years old and had Goonies on tape. Played the who movie out scene by seen using D&D basic box set with roll under rules. Then TMNT, follow up with WEG rules for Star Wars. Funny thing about D6 WEG setting campaign book. Showing the main cast of characters stats. Leia was a better pilot of the Xwing and Ywing than Luke was, so why didn't she fly and attack raid on the Death Star ? Well first off it was just the way the movie was written and filmed. Second back looking logic would say Leia would be too emotional comprised to fly. But if it was Prince Luke would he still been told he was unfit to fly the mission ? My past two gaming shops I grew up as adult in my twenties cross house brew combined WEG with WotC along with Whitewolf/World of Darkness (WoD) vampire, mage playing fast & lose with mechanics with a lot of word math problems. WEG d6 Star Wars book had nothing but problems, typos, rules wording, bad rules for Darksiders because of the Satanic Panic nonsense. Space combat, ship travel maneuvers, etc. And we high school algebra students trying to make sense of it all. Then my first gaming shop, 60min round trip from University College Campuses Town, with math nerds. Great times !

@@krispalermo8133 A strong female taking over from the "real" hero? In the 70s? The prison escape scene was barely permitted, and only because it was hilarious! Rather put a teenage crop duster into a top-of-the-line assault fighter with virtually no training, and depend on him to pull off a near-impossible task! The D6 system was bad, and even the "final edition" that we use today has problems. All RPG systems do! We try to hit the play style and flow of, say, a Rebels or Bad Batch episode, and tell a story and have fun. Great times ! Tomorrow, my group, aided by my long lost reluctant Jedi mother, will wrap up a raid on a secret lab/hospital where the old Republic and the Jedi tried to "cure" non-Jedi force users, under bombardment from the nascent Empire :D

@@GGBlaster In the movie delete scenes, Mark was just Naturally all over the stunt actor of Vader during the saber fights. In the novel of RotJ, Vader had to make an effort not to Accidently killing Luke while dueling him. Now as for TESB, cloud city duel took an hour to fight through, or just an hour beat down for Luke. Leia & Chewie were just running circles for an hour so Vader could see how long it took for her to get worn out. Vader wanted a report on how able the cloud city resistance and evacuation time capabilities for future imperial take overs. It wasn't an imperial invasion it was a lay back imperial live training exercise. Vader wanted the Falcon crew exhausted and defeated when he picks them up when the ship hyperdrive failed to operate. He forgot about RD-D2. Now as for RotJ, the ground battle to take out the planet shield generator and Piett crashing Vader's flag ship into the Death Star was a 4 hour fight. Then in the follow up novel The Truce at Bakura, after the Death Star was destroyed, the Imperials fought out for another 6 hours. What won the Rebels the space battle over Endor was two imperial warlords declared themselves as the New Emperor and started to fight it out with their own fleet commands. Pellaeon just said .. nope .. and gather what imperial ships he could and left with a small fleet of his own. What bought the Rebels goodwill and end of fighting the majority of the remaining imperials, was the Rebels declared an end of hostilities and run rescue pickups of imperial pilots and picket ships with failing life support. While the warlords fought it out. This is out of legends so its non-canon. Over all the writers were just playing up on themes from WW II Pacific sea battles.

Yeah this show looks INCREDIBLE. The Space Goonies/Amblin vibes are impeccable. The people bitching about the suburbia thing crack me up, to be honest. We finally get a new *kind* of planetary environment in Star Wars (we’ve had cityscapes, mining colonies, forests, tundra, desert, etc etc etc, but never this) and OF COURSE the mid rim and core worlds would have some middle class settlements like this (I mean, duh) but we’ve never seen them before, and the first instinct of some folks is to complain. The planetary imperial garrison that reviews train the local population for academy placements still says Luke behaves like a naive 15year old kid. He is not ready for college yet. He has a problem with getting distracted and zoning out. He stills needs someone to look out for him. These remarks were from early 1980's Marvel comics acting as filler for the OT. Yeah, where else are all of Palpatine's political supporters that don't know that the Empire is really an evil, cruel, and twisted beast supposed to live? Of course they have a cozy, detached existence in developed, safe worlds and they want a strongman that won the Clone Wars and saved them from the Jedi coup attempt to keep them safe from everything else. They need to protect their perfect, suburbia words with their 9-5, easy, 5 day a week, off every weekend jobs that produce mid level office work. Civil engineering for the galaxy needs to get done, as do building permits, editing for books before publishing, and other things that society needs, but the Empire didn't bother taking over.

I am interested in Skeleton Crew because many parents want to share more Star Wars with their kids. There is a gap in live-action for kids 5-10, with most of the content being for older audiences. While Mandolarin's Baby Yoda is fun, the realistic violence and lack of an avatar for kids make it less suitable. Same with Ashoka and Obi-Wan, with some elements being for them but they are primarily for older audiences. I can see a lot more kids relating to the Skeleton crew and imagining themselves on those adventures with the kids in the show.

Thanks for the video. Disney sometimes takes chances outside it's "comfort zone" (i.e: Deadpool 3) but they are a company whose image and most of its businesses are associated with kids so comparisons to HBO might not be fair. Anything beyond PG-14 for Disney is a stretch that requires long and complex negotiations. The idea of HBO running some Star Wars productions is interesting. I'd welcome a R-rate, very dark Old Republic production. Or something related to Valkorian.

I loved Andor and the Mandalorian. But I'm here to be entertained, so I've enjoyed all of the shows. The sequel movies were so hard to follow from movie to movie. I thought Obi Wan was a great study in PTSD and the overwhelming guilt you would feel if you had to kill a sibling (and then find out that your sibling had come back as a 7' tall cyborg with force powers). There have been some truly outstanding writing--Stellan Skarsgards soliloqy about what he had to give up and Andy Cirkus' character evolution. I really hope that in Ahsoka 2 we get the more traditional Thrawn. I need to go back and rewatch the Acolyte to really follow it through. Carrie Ann Moss and Lee Jung-jae were great.

Maybe Disney could adapt the "cinematic universe" angle like Marvel did. Each series explores separate stories but has a central element, a focal point to direct audience attention to the big ticket movies. SW would be-in theory-better suited with this method because you would explore the actual galaxy. And in the series or movies, they can have a cameo from a new character or clan to introduce later on in a separate project. Everything fell apart in Disney when they finished the main story and not put up a "Story B" plan. They introduced all the characters in season 1-phases 1 through 2. Then they finished the overall plot in season 2-phase 3. Season 3 is usually the experimental season and all these shows and movies felt experimental.

I'm fine with twlling different kinds of stories for a variety of ages, but it does need some guidelines and boundaries. I think Disney maintaining a unified vision has been overall good, especially when it comes to novelization and comics. The movies they seem to let the director have more room, and you get a mixed bag of success and failure.

I always said that Andor was a show "different from any other star wars show. You will either love it, or hate it. No in the middle". And I believe the Skeleton Crew will be like that aswell. Something different, something not usually seen in Star wars. Will that be good, or bad? Only time will tell.

Having been both GM and player in a few Star Wars RPG campaign, both "hero" and "lowliest scum", the premise MIGHT work on those, who remember two Germanies and on their kids. Or even grandkids :)

Luv this channel and your content Allen. But because of the way you talk about stuff in your content, I end up being very surprised about one thing tho... HOW are you not a Star Trek fan?? You would think that franchise would hit easily all our "buttons" for scifi

Ridley Scott doing the pre-Yuuzhan Vong invasion would be excellent. The freaky bio-tech. The people being replaced. The political figures turning out to be these invaders. The horror aspect of them setting up an outpost at the edge of the galaxy and a few survivors trying to get off the planet to warn people. Yeah, he would do an excellent job with that. He would also do a great job with the rise of the Sith Empire and all the freaky Darkside stuff that happens because of it. All the lost Rakkatan tech that they find and deploy in their war against the Old Republic. There are also the the droids that waged a war of domination and extermination of humanoid life that happened in the early republic when the Jedi Order was very, very young as well. That was a freaky war that he could do as well. They should invite him to do a set of 2 to 5 movies covering some of the older stuff that is in the history that they need to make cannon and would be half horror, half traditional Star Wars. Just have the Dark Side run free with him.

This new show looks promising. Goonies in the Star Wars universe sounds fun. With the younger cast they can lean heavy on the scarier aliens and creatures and more fantastic elements of the universe.

Let the creators have complete control )or at least 90%( I agree - it'd be interesting to see how Solo would had turned out and a Colin Trevorrow Star Wars (they should give him a single film IMO).

I’m curious about it. It does look like it might try to cover new ground in Star Wars. Taking place in the New Republic this could be interesting. Which can be a good thing. Andor is the best example as was the first season of the Mandalorian. Goonies meets Star Wars? I still enjoy the Goonies today so it could be a good addition aimed for younger fans. My issue is if they try to turn Jude Law into a secret Sith Lord since the trailer gave away that he has Force powers. It did not work out for Acolyte and likely won’t work for Skeleton Crew. However, if it works like the old Star Wars kids books where the young characters have wise and well traveled mentor around to face the Big Bads and the kids handle problems that are more in-line with their abilities, then that could work. Obi-Wan having young Leia outrun grown adults was more humorous than anything else. But we’ll see.

I mean the Stranger Things parallel is pretty apt. That is a show that has a focus on child leads, but the stakes and story are very serious even with some light sprinkling of humor here and there. If they can hit that balance, and you care about the kid protagonists I dont see why not. I remember enjoying the Ewok movies, but I was a kid and I'm sure they haven't aged well.

I'm actually excited about it. I don't think it will do well because I think so many have given up on StarWars after Acolyte/Ahsoka/ObiWan/BOBF an no one will watch it.

If the audience reviews come back strong, then I'll give it a shot like I did with Andor. But if Skeleton crew proves to be a befuddled cluster-mess like Acolyte... I'll set this one out.

I'm here for it, I have no confidence in it, but I'll give it a go. I just hope it's a show that _is not for me_ but is for someone and that it's good in the genre it's trying to emulate. Star Wars really needs to get back on that horse and stop being so damn, not good. I'm hoping since children talk a lot it'll be easier to write them. They should have no trouble placing them in danger and the Jedi dude I assume will be absolutely indispensable in everyone's survival. That said, if they F this up, I'm not sure if even Andor is going to be able to lift Star Wars out of the hole. I'd really hate for _serious_ Star Wars replace *fun* Star Wars, but that's where we're nearly at. Anyways, great video!

A step up from Young Jedi Adventures! Perhaps will be fun, "normal" adventures through the SW Galaxy. Will have to see if they make the kids unrealistically competent for their age, which would absolutely ruin it for me. EG. Calvin & Hobbes: enjoyable sit-com, but his existential analysis was certainly nothing 6 year olds actually do.

The sad thing about Andor is that, as good as it was, it marked the start of the cliff Star Wars has been falling into ever since. There was a ton of hate for it in the internet, it's just not Star Wars, etc. It basically made it OK for normies to hate on Star Wars. Sure the shows since have been pretty mid, but nothing to justify the mountain of hate.
